Just found out I have tickets for the game. Hopefully it will be better than my last visit to st Mary's (Liverpool in the league cup...) Hopefully big frasers return will inspire a clean sheet and a long over due win. |
| News Comment | Koeman Talks Tough And Saints Fans Everywhere Applaud at 10:54:49
Can people stop saying the academy isn't producing atm. The fact is from each crop of youngsters you get maybe one or two who will break into the team at 18-19, and then a couple more who might break through later. We were lucky to get slightly more than that over the last few years thanks to increased opportunities in the lower leagues. However from our current crop, from the early breakthroughs (shaw, chambers and jwp) 2 left after a matter of months in the team, so there has been a bit of a gap. We are now seeing reed, and hopefully the likes of Seager starting to push into the fold. It is a fact of life that many of the current u21s will never make the first team. 5-10 years ago 99% of fans would never have heard of them, but watching th u21 games on YouTube you notice them more so when they disappear or move to a lower league club everyone thinks the academy has failed. That is not the case. If our players hadn't been sold we would have 4-5 starters from the academy atm. What other club could say that. |
| News Comment | Saints Reject £30 Million For Sadio Mane at 16:20:13
For a player as frustratingly inconsistent as mane, £30mil is a massive over estimate. He disappears whenever the team is in trouble, and only produces when we are well on top. He's is maybe £15-20M at best. However, I don't think the club can afford to let him go unless it's ludicrously high, I.e. £40-50M. We have made a big statement about 'noone leaving in January' and if we fold then more players will be targeted. Ideal situation, £45M offer, goes, is a flop and everyone realised offering ridiculous amounts of money for saints players made to look good by a good system and over inflated by the media is a bad policy and we will get to keep more in the future. |
| News Comment | Saints At MK Dons The Preview at 14:59:22
The Dons manager has openly stated he doesn't care about the southampton game is is already focused on thier next league game next weekend. I seems as though it could be less a good test and more a romp for the fringe players, need to maintain focus and make it so however! |
| News Comment | Ward Prowse Attracting Big Club Interest ! But Why ! at 14:11:38
What people seem to forget is that he is ONLY 21. He has played a huge amount of games for his age, but it really is no surprise that he isn't 'bossing' every game. If in 3-4 years time he is still where he is now people can start to question him. Another point that really grinds me is the 'why didn't out great talent scouts spot...' (Enter payer, ayew, etc) we should have signed him. People seem to forget that these other teams are also trying to sign players. It's not as though simply by being involved we could sign anyone! The team is taking a while to gel, but Bertie back this week and clasie next, we should start to push on. Judge after 15+ games into the season, atm a run of 3 wins would put us in the top 4! |
| News Comment | Derby County Interested In Harrison Reed at 15:22:55
I don't think the problem is the youth getting blocked from first team. At any one time 2-3 youth players will be in and around the 1st 11, the fact is that some of the best young players moved on very young so there is a gap in age; the current top 19-22 yo players are thinned out, whilst the new batch, 17-19 yo, are still developing. Jwp is well involved with the first team, just slightly out due to lack of preseason, targett is starting atm. Reed could probably do with some first team action elsewhere, but it may be that he (and Gallagher for that matter) may never make it. |

| News Comment | Saints At Newcastle United The Verdict at 21:14:42
Glad to see everyone pulling the same way. The important thing now is to get behind the team next weekend, regardless of who plays. If yoshi etc come out to negativity and worry from the off then it will only compound the nerves. Keep the faith COYR |
| News Comment | Saints Need To Shore Up Defence at 15:10:37
Interesting to see others opinions, to me it look as though the 'defensive' issue stemmed from giving the ball away too cheaply. We are clearly going to play more attacking this year, which is ok but when we get the ball and our wingbacks bomb forward the. We give the ball to thier midfielders it leaves us very exposed, yoshi and fonte both had poor games but that was compounded by how exposed they where. P.s. Correct me if I'm wrong but should the title not read 'sure' up? |
| News Comment | Saints At Newcastle United The Verdict at 12:45:58
We are effectively playing with 4 forwards and look great in attack. Defensively we looked shaky, probably a combination of players missing and lack of Ronald's guidance on the sideline. I though targett had a very poor game, but he will get there. Yoshi is too inconsistent, when at his best he is decent but yesterday he was frankly diabolical. I also am unsure about Davies in that holding role, maybe give reed a chance while clasie is out? |
| News Comment | Celtic Fire Warning Shot At Saints at 10:58:54
I hope you are joking. As a club, including Reed, we have done fantastic business this summer. (And last for that matter!). The only evidence we are actually in for the player are media rumours, we may well be and will have a value for the player so may or may not get him, or we may not be. We will have other targets, but again the club has learnt the hard way that you can't just through money at a problem, every transfer is a risk and they will know before we go into negotiations how much money they are willing to risk, if the selling club disagrees then there will be no deal. It is definitely not the case that Les Reed is individually negotiating and 'screwing things up' |
