Interesting to note Whittaker is attracting interest with 9 goals in 31 starts in League One (1 in 3.44 starts), and we're debating Dykes here who has an almost identical 27 in 91 starts (1 in 3.37 starts) - in the Championship.
I don't think he's got some of the striker's instinct or fast-twitch muscle response you need in an elite Championship forward, but he's ok and I do sometimes think we'd be better off actually trying to play to his strengths. But anything approaching 3-4m? I'd take it. |

I didn't think we were as bad here as against Blackpool. Just a few things didn't come off, and a bit leggy, plus well-nullified by Swansea (which is on MB to figure out how to fix). Curious to know what you and others made of MB's post match comment that they've not asked the players to play a high line? |

Though I agree about the standard ancient championship mentality of sitting back and playing for a point away, in this game I think I’d give qpr a lot of the credit for pushing them into that course of action with, as you mentioned, ceaseless probing, pressing, passing. It wore them out. Great win, super report as always.

All I would say is that while my personal preference is for a Howe or Robinson (or Clement, though i'd prefer someone with at least a shred of managerial experience), I don't think Sherwood would necessarily be a complete disaster. He's young, forward-thinking and, if given time (big if), could put in place a good ethos/style especially working with his dream team Les and Chris Ramsey.
Interesting to see how this pans out, and I think the line about deciding what kind of club we are is the most important one you've written. Let's hope it's one we can all be proud of. |

Terrific report as usual to cap off an exceptional weekend. Taarabt sheer genius, that goal will live long in the memory.
It is one of my main gripes with referees that they seem hesitant to take action against a player who consistently hacks down someone who beats him for skill time and again (ie Sidwell on Taarabt). One of the advantages of having a player of such skill is that the opposition may well resort to this tactic to stop him, in which case they should be punished. I'm not an advocate of lots of cards but in this situation Taarabt is not getting the rewards his skills should merit. Sidwell should have been sent off, no doubt about it. Less said about booking for celebrating the better.
Fascinated to see how we can take this form forward. Newcastle are a little shaky of late (though still a good side), and West Brom looked very pedestrian today against West Ham. |

One gripe - Mackie goal of the season? Agree on him as player and liverpool as match...but i'd have gone for Taarabt v arsenal. Equally as important and brilliant bit of skill and finish against one of the top centrebacks in the league (although he didn't look it that day!).
Anyone who tells me Mackie is not cut out for the Prem will get a smack in the mouth from now on. |

I'm almost as drained re-living that excellent account as I was at the time. As ever Clive, you've captured the poignant emotion and sense of occasion perfectly - following QPR is genuinely improved by the quality of this site so thank you for your efforts across this rollercoaster season.
Us being in a winning position definitely affected Bolton. I was watching that game and you could see their efforts dwindle as news of Mackie's goal came through. Immense performance and that incident summed up Mackie's season - often people think he's out of place in this league but you try telling him that. He's popped up with important goals, I think improved his all round game, and I find his direct style very effective especially when paired alongside players with more guile. We may have lost to a very slick Man Utd at home but I thought Mackie tore Evra a new one. POTY for me.
Ah Man Utd. The sweetest, sweetest outcome of all. Couldn't have happened to a nicer club. Finally, oh finally, my tears spilled as the 10 year old matchday mascot in that game in 1996 when Cantona scored can be forgotten. Justice has been done.
And to top it all, there is as you say genuine optimism and a long-term plan to be followed. What a season, what a club, what a future. |

Agreed about Cisse starting - that's what I thought should happen - but equally as baz_qpr says above we weren't great with him on when he eventually made it. However I still think had we started like that and set about them with some purpose we wouldn't have been needing his last minute intervention. Anyway, who cares at this point...what a noise when the goal went in.
Huth was an absolute mountain. Mackie's effort was excellent and he didn't get dispirited, but the guy is unmovable. Although agreed referee gave him way too much leniency.
I have a feeling Crouchy is pretty happy that he didn't score..not saying he didn't try...but he also did 'lose' Anton for the goal...
Also for Jerome's early chance I don't think Taiwo touched it at all, from N block in Upper Loft (and on TV) it just looked like Crouch flicked on and Jerome got away from Taiwo? Jerome is awful by the way, terrible composure, no physical presence despite his build, poor movement (that one chance aside) and the touch of a concrete block.
