I'd sell Dembele in a heartbeat. He's about to turn 23 and still plays like a teenager who's never been coached - something of a threat when running with the ball at feet, but no idea how to play within a team structure or how to defend. Add in the physical deficiencies and he's shown no sign whatsoever of being capable of playing in the Championship. Field is different, but I admit I'm biased and would have him in the starting XI every week. The only reason I'd even consider selling him is if he was asking for a move, and even then I'd be very reticent, especially if Varane is off now or in the summer. |

We actually tried it twice, in the 30s and 60s, but crowds fluctuated wildly without ever settling high enough to justify the cost. Good job the directors at the time kept hold of Loftus Rd. On the outside of the pitch was an athletics track, greyhound track and a concrete cycling track - and at one end there was also a swimming pool - before you got to the stands. Would have needed binoculars. [Post edited 12 Jan 14:25]

I guess the benefit of doing this with an Australian club is that it avoids any problems the next time we qualify for Europe. |

I was a bit surprised that we dropped deeper almost as soon as we'd scored, they looked ropey as hell when we put them under pressure, but I guess Stephan knew how short we were on legs. That was the real difference today, they had more options on the bench than we did and we, halfway through the season, still aren't fit enough. Can't do much about the former, given our recent burst of injuries, but the latter is absolutely something we should not accept. Changes need to be made behind the scenes on that score. Still, it would be churlish to criticise the players and coaches today, they gave it a shot. You can't ask for much more than that. |

I was about to say "he's Jake Bidwell but with injuries". Definite no from me. |

Edwards can and will play every week, whereas those guys - at best - would only play occasionally as part of their development. Two different scenarios. |

Hmm. His positioning is poor (Dunne corrects him), his body shape often wrong when he faces an advancing player and he lunges into challenges far too often. He gets away with these things because his pace allows him to recover from mistakes. I think people like him because he's all-action, throws himself into challenges and likes to get forward in attack. We might not find anyone better this January, but he's not a solution to our very long-running RB problem. |

Yes, I've noticed that too. With the added insinuation that the people criticising his sacking are only doing so because he was passing them information. I keep making the comparison with the Paladini regime, but the parallels are stark. I've had more than enough of it. |

Clubs like QPR need people like Furlong - they know the place inside out, they are respected by fans and players, they carry with them the history of the club and of previous teams. All of that is important, otherwise you're just another blank slate, another 'project' in an industry full of them. We've seen this before, of course, when a previous regime got rid of everyone with a strong connection to the club. Some of us remember how that turned out too. |

Saw him at the Clapham Grand a few years ago. Despite his age he did a cracking 2 hour set. Loved every minute of it. What a career! RIP |

An entertaining albeit low quality game of football. Terrible first goal to give away, with mistakes from Kone, Varane, JCS and Hamer, and I wasn't too pleased with their second either for that matter. But we showed a fair bit of character today to come back twice and then again to hold out at the end. That's very welcome because it's not something we see from them that often, I think a lot of us consider the team to be a bit 'fair weather'. I still don't think the midfield is set up very well, it doesn't protect the back four enough and often leaves the defenders exposed, whilst at the same time not advancing the ball particularly well. Needs some work. But you can't really argue with 5 goals and 3 points. That's a good day out. Roll on Blackburn. |

Cant afford to miss an opportunity to promote the brand. The ability to spot a camera lens goes hand in hand with this of course. |

Bloody Lee Dixon couldn't stop talking about Phil Foden's amazing pass - all five yards of it - yet barely a mention of the beautiful finish from Eze. |

Southampton allowed us to have lots of space in the middle third (probably explains why they were 4th bottom before kick off), which in turn allowed us to pass the ball a little in that part of the field. That meant we looked a little bit better than we did against Ipswich, but we didn't actually do anything with the ball. It was completely ineffective. Same could be said of them to be fair. I thought it was a really poor standard game. |

It's the most basic level of professionalism: take the player out nice and early, when it's only a yellow and not a potential red, stop the break away and a potential goal. I hate that we are so ridiculously naïve, right the way through the whole team, and have been for years. It's pathetic. |

No-one played well today, no-one. We made an ordinary Ipswich look good, and some of the goals were terrible to concede. Funny that no-one has mentioned Madsen yet. He didn't once get close to their 32, Nunez, who kept dropping off his shoulder and found acres of space. On a few occasions we had the ludicrous situation where Cook moved forward to mark him and ended up playing 10 yards in front of Morrison - which is appalling positioning for your CBs to end up in. Anyway, everyone involved today, from players to coaches, has some thinking to do before the next game. |
 | Forum Reply | Madsen at 09:44 23 Oct 2025
There's a bit of an attempt to re-write history here. Madsen's performances for a large part of last season were so bad that he was getting 1 and 2 on the ratings. That's not being harsh, or people being too quick to judge, it was there in front of your face. He was, in some games, appallingly bad. Just lacking even the most basic elements of being a professional footballer. No-one was digging him out or attacking him or anything like, he was just flat out appalling. That's what makes the turn around so remarkable. |
