There are a few points to debate about the bench. It was clearly light on attacking options as Burrell is injured and Frey and Vale were omitted altogether. Only Bennie and Smyth could provide attacking replacements. With Saito's injury and Smyth coming on early, that narrowed our options further and likely led to players remaining on the pitch longer than otherwise.
Interesting Esquerdinha being on the bench but then using Field as left back.
Yes, so one conclusion (from this occurring two years running) would be that beating a team in the bottom three of the Prem, desperate for a win, is not as easy as it might appear!
Might not be a QPR thing? Burnley stuffed Millwall 5:1...and Wolves won 6:1.
All about expectations. Glass half-full or half-empty?
We exceeded my expectations and if we were more fortunate with a home draw for that game or if the replay rule still applied, a one-all draw after 90 minutes would have been considered a "result"!
We weren't perfect, but i still consider that a worthy effort and hopefully a big step forward for this team and its relationship with our fans after some iffy away performances.
This is like a whodunnit mystery...Hercule Poirot should be summoned to solve the case.
On Sunday, one could see how little sunlight the pitch gets at this time of year. If they ever rebuild the stadium on this site, they should consider that factor!
Well, the fanbase is not independent from the club given the fan forums and supporters organisations and the election of leaders for each of those groups. I also find it hard to believe it's not possible to firstly identify the ringleaders (through stewards) and secondly communicate to those season ticket holders in that section what is and isn't appropriate for ongoing behaviour and set out disciplinary action if warnings are not heeded.
While we are on the topic of how the club handles the topic of abuse, does the club consider it acceptable for a certain minority to sing "Marti, Marti you're a c%$!" or "Lino, Lino you're a c%$!"? It seems that oversteps the boundary of bants/home crowd influence vs puerile, obscene abuse.
Spot on. The difference between the teams I could see is that Boro passed the ball quickly up the pitch to a player moving into space. We have a set of dribblers who are fine taking people on down the wings (Smyth, Saito, Dembele, Chair, Poku), but not good enough at making the right choice, passing it quickly to a team-mate in space. It wasn't as if there were not options of team-mates in space for Smyth and Dembele to pass to.
Make the ball do the work!
We have looked our best with Vale making those sharp pass and move interventions. Hope he returns next week.
His passion shines through in this collection of commentary highlights on the Red Sox.
Nothing like Fenway on a warm summer's night, and no sports moment will ever rival the breaking of the Curse of the Bambino in 2004 and the unbounded joy that night of generations of New Englanders finally beating their pin-striped nemisis in the post-season.
Were neutrals pulling for the team that has never been to a World Series? The wait continues for the Mariners (the only team never to get to play in the Fall Classic).
"Can you believe it..." Joe's hung up his microphone now :(
"Baseball breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall all alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops."
Does the loan window also close tomorrow? Given a number of players have slipped out of the match-day squad, will they move out on loan? e.g. Bennie, Adamson
Edwards would clearly be an upgrade on Mbengue, but might not be required if JCS returns and Norrington Davies and Jimmy cover centre back if there are injuries.
Mbengue looks like one of those flawed but flamboyant players that are often beloved at Loftus Road.
If Mbengue is considered ahead of Cook, and we signed Ronnie, then Cook would struggle to make the match day squad.
GK position now seems to be about more than just making saves (or coming for crosses), it's playing the offensive quarterback role. It's been mentioned how playing the ball first-time makes all the difference in terms of moving the ball past the opposition - it looks like Walsh's touch needs work as not only does he need to take a multiple to control the ball, but his touch is often imperfect and the ball is not moved quickly or accurately enough. Furthermore, like an errant artillery, when going long his range seems to be off and the ball would rarely hit his intended target.
There must be statistics that would compare Nardi and Walsh both offensively and defensively?
Yale graduate, Theo Epstein was 29 when he took over as General Manager of the Red Sox. Won the World Series and beat the Yankees two years later. Give the guy a chance. It's not like the club was well run in the previous 25 years!
