Superb writing, as always. Just one correction (having watched several replays), the deflection early in the first half that looked destined for the goal did not hit the post. It was the huge amount of spin on the ball which meant that as it landed on the ground a few inches short of the goal line it spun viciously away for a corner. If it had landed goal side of the line I'm sure it would have spun back out again and we would have had to rely on linesman's eyesight!! |
