From my naked eye I don't think it was 3 at the back first half - It looked 4,4,2 to me with Edwards RB and Esq LB with Varane and Morgan as a two in central midfield. As expected with that set up we got totally overrun in all areas. Whatever it was it was certainly a mess with lots of shrugged shoulders and finger pointing from the players. |

Thanks Clive - A great read on a thoroughly frustrating afternoon. What annoys me the most is that everyone in the pub could see the problem when the team was announced so why the hell could our management team not smell the danger. I have been ok with JS this season but the last 2 games have left me completely frustrated with him tactically. All of a sudden 52 points seems a lot further away than it should be. |

We tried The Askew for the first time for pre match drinks. Decent boozer and lovely Guinness. I thought Ronnie Edwards was ok and we gave him MOTM on the way home closely followed by Kone who worked his arse off and should have his name on the scoresheet if it wasn't for that killjoy linesman. Apart from that not much else to shout about - Our formation gifted The Blades the win just as we all expected when we saw the team sheet in the pub. [Post edited 1 Mar 9:51]

 | Forum Thread | 3 at the back with wing backs Saturday? at 12:21 26 Feb 2026
The one (and only) thing we seem ok on now is centre backs so could this now be the time we get to see it on Saturday. I thought we switched to it for the last 15 minutes on Tuesday and it seemed to close some of the gaps. My thoughts are 3,5,2 when attacking 5,3,2 when defending: Walsh Dunne Cook Edwards/JCS (either can play on the left of the 3) Mbengue/Smyth (RWB) Saito/RND/Esquerdinha (LWB) Hayden/Varane/Morgan/Vale (3 from these 4 for midfield) Kone/Kolie/Bennie (2 from these 3 for up top) I think if we go 4,4,2 or 4,2,3,1 Sheff Utd will have a field day. |

Thanks Clive - Covered everything perfectly as normal. Felt for the 1,800 fans tucked away in the corner somewhere. My kids had enough after the 3rd shouted and swore at the TV and went to their respective bedrooms only to pop back down just before the end to see the final score - Ouch!! They will be back with me on Saturday in W12 - The wife says its child cruelty and I'm starting to think she might be right.... |

Brilliant Clive - Brought make so many memories of Southampton away over the decades. Those wooden seats have a great story from me too which was an altercation with Francis Benali back in the nineties. Can’t say anymore in case the Hampshire police reopen the file………but it’s a cracker belive me. |

Thanks Clive - Covered everything about this rotten result perfectly. We all dropped our levels of intensity thinking we were going to get a straightforward win. I include us the crowd in that as the whole atmosphere seemed flat which I guess transpired to the team. After 50 years of going to “Loftus” I should know and expect Saturday’s result but it still grates me everytime. Bloody football club…….. |

I think so too - The club is heading in the right direction. Of course he is not going to get everything right but I believe he has put us on the right track. A very intelligent, hard working CEO. |

I think with Arsenal still fighting on four fronts he will continue to get plenty of game time. They seem to be playing him centrally which may be the problem of getting on the ball in congested areas. His best work for Palace was on the left where he could get more space and time to pick passes and cut in. Whatever happens from here on in he will always be a legend in W12 for signing that contract. |

I hated him when he was at Luton but then again I hate everything to do with Luton. However since then and I dare I say it "I have slightly warmed to him" and he has even been slightly complementary about us. |

Thank you Jamie - Great report - Shame we couldn't nick it in the end but we will take the point and clean sheet and continue to look up the table. No reason why we can't still have a go at the play offs but think we may just fall short this season. Bloody injuries - However the club continues to move in the right direction!! |

He has been great for us since day one. Well worth another year if we can agree reduced wages. |

Thanks Clive great read - It has been a very good and sensible window for us and continues the good work over the past two years. Massive thanks again need to go to our old mate Eberechi Eze - His legacy continues with the signing of Rolls Royce Ronnie. Not seen anything but I wonder if we also got a loan fee for Morrison? Clubs actually want our players now - It wasn't so long ago we were paying them to leave. Not going tonight but safe travels to all those heading across town - I am sure the pubs in London Bridge will be nice and lively from 4.00pm onwards. Come on you R'rrs [Post edited 6 Feb 11:58]

Absolutely spot on. Paul Smyth is an absolute gem in our squad. I love your comparison to Jamie Mackie - Nail and head!! Great shout on the 11th minute applause at the next home game. I will take the lead in G block. I also don't think it was a QPR fan sending this stuff and more likely to come from a betting issue somewhere. |

And here it is another masterpiece from our mentor - Thank you Clive we have been waiting for that since 5.00pm Saturday - "Can't wait for Clives report" was the general consensus of a full car heading back up the A40 Saturday evening. It really is incredible how this bloody football club can take you to the depths of despair one weekend then to the top of the world seven days later. After 50 years of going to Loftus Road I should be used to it by now but it never fails to surprise me how a simple game of football can affect my general wellbeing. Just sit back and enjoy the ride I keep telling myself........ Wasn't Loftus Road a great place to be at 4.55pm Saturday - Bloody Marvellous!! [Post edited 2 Feb 7:51]

Whilst it would be a Fairytale, Roy of the Rovers kind of thing - Going full circle back to your roots playing for peanuts etc.....I'm not so sure it would be the right thing. Could it upset the dressing room which does seem the best it has been for ages. When I look at the car park in the school on match days now there are no Ferraris, Lambogenies or Bentleys.......Do we need a "Flash Harry" in the squad? |
