Interesting post.
Absolutely 100% agree on the owners. They keep us alive and invest as much as FFP allows them to. A new training ground is a huge deal, so we certainly don't need new ownership.
Les is doing what he can, but his record is very spotty. I can see both sides to the staying and going argument. One thing is clear: he has Rangers' best interests at heart and wants to make a success of it. Whether he can within the current set-up is about as clear as it was five years ago.
As for the manager, my sense is if we stay up and he gets even some backing, we'll be a better proposition next year. I don't love him and still think he's way too PE teacher to really be a success at QPR but I can see him eventually getting his ideas through. However, he won't work with the current set of players so I would pull the trigger now, before the death spiral is too fast and we can't stop it. Relegation would a fcking disaster financially. We need someone with more obvious motivational skills because we have a team of footballers who have downed tools and we don't have much time to sort it. I'm not usually one to think blood and thunder works but we need someone with a bit of fury to scare these boys straight. |

Well, ninth last year was a superb result in a tough league, a relatively new team and a club with a previous losing mentality. Then there's the manner of how this season has all gone wrong. Even with the injuries and unexpected issues, it's objectively been a poor season and has ended in chaos. |

I think there are two ways you can look at it, and you'd hope the management of the club are considering everything at this stage.
The first is that Warburton is the first and only manager we've had who has been able to work and thrive within the new structure of the club: buying for little, selling for lots and making smart moves to improve overall. There's absolutely no denying he's achieved that and could still make us better.
We can also look at this season and say we have been overachieving with the budget, squad size and players at our disposal, and that any top ten finish is ultimately a decent result. A smart summer transfer window and we're set to go again next season with an improved chance of promotion. MW could easily do that, as he's proved before.
But then you have to look at the long-term plan. Is it predicated on the same manager or is a structure designed to slot different coaches in as and when required? That's what many clubs who've followed this model have done - Swansea a few years back, Brentford (who switched out Warbs of course) and Brighton, for example.
You hope, regardless of whether they still back MW, that Les, Lee Hoos and co have a list of managers identified as the type to work within our model, play the football we've developed and who could improve on what we have. If they don't and it's Warbs or bust, we're in deeper trouble than just a terrible run of form.
I'm probably on the side of keeping MW and giving him another go next season, although what I've watched since about mid-December has been incredibly worrying and is getting worse. Signings, substitutions and messaging have all been dreadful and could signal a manager who's lost his focus. I think we'll end up about 12th, which is a false position because we're better than that but I can't see the slide being arrested this side of the summer.
If the bosses decided his time was done, had a ready-made replacement and acted decisively, I'd be on board with that. What would be stupid would be sacking him and then starting the searching for someone. That would just completely derail the last three years of work and would be a disservice to MW. |

If were to make the playoffs, we've got a one in four chance of promotion. The top six at the end of the season are all good teams and everyone has a chance, even if certain teams look stronger than others. The problem is we're not looking like we've got the legs to get one of the spots. My guess is we end up somewhere like ninth. |

The main positive you can take from the last few months is somehow we still have our destiny our own hands. I've been saying that the team has looked well below par from just before Christmas and bar the Reading game, I can't remember the performance level getting anywhere near the Jan-October 2021 levels over recent months. We've reminded me of Reading last year tbh.
I'd be absolutely amazed if we manage to make the top six now but I supposed something could click and we could start putting in the sorts of effort needed again. Can't see quite how it's going to happen - when we dominate possession now we just pissball around in front of our goal and when we don't we tend to concede dozens of chances. So unless we can get back to dominating the ball further up the pitch, I can't see there being enough individual brilliance left in the team to scrape enough wins together.
Our best players look shot and increasingly unhappy on the pitch, while the less talented players are either completely out of favour and regressing or looking League 1 standard on the pitch. I think failing to bring in quality wing-back cover and a decent forward and opting for another centre-mid and centre-back in January has left us a bit short where we actually need help, but appreciate how hamstrung we are financially and if you can't get who you want you don't take second-rate options and expect anything other than second-rate players.
Feels like a season of disappointment will be the end result but we have to take heart that we have made progress in the longer-term. Expect we'll need to shift a player for big bucks in the summer and then hope we have a prospect coming through to fill the spot and keep the business model ticking over. |

There were a couple of occasions in all three Scotland games where he should have been in box for a cross or through ball but had drifted deep and gave himself too much to do. But all in all, he tried hard, nearly got one against England and did okay in a team that struggled to penetrate defences. He clearly benefits from having a more experienced forward next to him up top and Che Adams ain't that. |

It's sad to see our great former players rotting on the bench of Premier League clubs but that's not our problem - the aim has to be to develop players, sell them for significant cash and reinvest in great young players and go again. What happens to them afterwards is by the by, though I'd hate Eze's progress to stall as I want to see him in the Champions League and for England.
The key thing is we are identifying those hidden gems, getting them early, improving them and improving the club's standing and selling. |

It is a shocking league this year and a big shame it's come too early in our development to do anything about it.
Reckon one very poor team is going to get promoted and will be absolutely spanked in the Prem next year. There are basically only three decent - not incredible - squads this year and they should be going up but I can imagine someone like Hull, Swansea, Forest, Reading or Millwall sneaking in and winning the play-offs.
Anyone from about 16 up could still make the playoffs but sadly it ain't gonna be us. |

Beyond this somehow being tied to an Eze transfer, I cannot see any logic in signing a youth player in the one position we have absolutely tons of options... unless, and this is a stretch and very questionable management if the case, Warburton et al see him as a centre forward. |

BOS, Eze, Wells and Hugill all defended very well from the front.
BOS and Eze were back near their own penalty area plenty of times winning the ball back. Eze had a 100% tackle success rate, showing what an underrated part of his game that is. BOS is ridiculously strong for a little bloke and he also helped Kane out several times when Kane had let his man drift towards the touchline unchecked. |

Yeah, fair points. I'm just not convinced we were that solid. Thought there were a lot of defensive errors in the first half and getting so deep in the final 20 would have been a disaster against a team with confidence.
We're definitely better for having another way of playing but you could see it wasn't massively comfortable for the eleven out there. |

Sorry if my assessment of PNE is rudimentary at best. I get to see them for five minutes every Saturday, meaning I don't have that much to say. That and I also don't give a fark about PNE. |

Gotta say I thought PNE was a weird game.
We employed a strange brand of football that I couldn't put my finger on. We were solid, played reasonable stuff that looked better than it was due to Eze's brilliant and BOS absolutely destroying their left back, but it lacked a bit of urgency. We were especially poor in the first half and got a little better in the second.
My feeling was a better team in better form would have put us to the sword but PNE offered nothing and we managed to control the tempo relatively well. I also struggled with Warburton's subs - as soon as Wells got in the game, being first to the clipped ball and laying off, he was yanked off for a defensive midfielder, which ultimately almost cost us a goal (had it not been for Lumley).
But all in all, we were quite good, with one player who is really standing out as a cut above now.
Glad most people have seen it differently to me, as we need some confidence, but I wasn't reassured by that performance. |
