Ronald Koeman's agent has said that he would be interested in what Saints would have to offer should the club wish to approach him.

Speaking to the Daily Echo the Dutchman's agent Guido Albers confirmed that although no approach has been made to Koeman who is about to leave his job in charge of Feyenoord after three seasons in the hot seat, that he would be keen to speak to the club should they make contact.

“We haven’t been approached by anybody, but he would like to work in the Premier League,” said Albers.

“From Ronald’s point of view, it would be amazing. I think it would be a very good success for the club, but also for the Premier League to get a coach like him.

“He is very technical, and very offensive. His team makes goals. They scored more than any other team in Holland this season.”

Koeman would tick many boxes in the fact that he would be a high profile name to appease the Saints supporters in the fact that he has managed all of Holland's big three of Ajax, PSV & Feyenoord but also in Spain and Portugal as well as starting his career in coaching as an assistant manager at Barcelona as well as the Dutch International squad.

He has won the Dutch championship with both Ajax & PSV, at Feyenoord he has not added any honours to the cabinet, although it should be stressed that his time there has coincided with an upsurge in fortunes for Ajax and his three seasons in charge has seen Feyenoord finish 2nd and 3rd before another runners up spot last season, a marked improvement on the 8th spot they had achieved the year before he arrived at the club, perhaps this is a good omen given that Saints achieved that very position this term.

Certainly Koeman would seem a good fit for Saints, schooled in the type of football Saints have played of late he would certainly play the game in the way we would want to see, he has the experience combined with actually winning trophies both as a player and manager, this would also clearly be a "name" appointment rather than chancing an up and coming coach.

The odds on Koeman shortened a little today and he leapfrogged Murat Yakin although it should also be noted that Michael Laudrup is sneaking up on the inside rails.

BoondockSaint added 14:05 - May 30 Is he bringing a tea lady with him? Not so sure about Laudrup. Wasn't the Swansea story on him that he wasn't hands on enough and left too much to assistants? Also, that he brought in a load of new players that he favoured and it caused a split in the dressing room between them and the players who had climbed the leagues with each other? Also, great players usually don't make great managers in any sport. It's the Fred Shero school of thought-They can't teach because they never had to learn, they just relied on their talent. Great players were always on the field of play -those who became great managers are usually the ones who sat on the bench, watching and learning the game from their manager.

trampslykeus added 15:02 - May 31 The most important thing at the moment is to say no to Liverpool & Man Utd. We need to hold on to everyone at least till the manager is appointed and has a chance to review things. It is irrelevant whether they want to complete signings before the World Cup. If AL or LS gets upset, so be it. If we bow down to the pressure, the rest of the vultures will descend on us for the other players. Then it will be difficult to find a decent manager.

halftimeorange added 12:58 - Jun 2 I'd like to think we would get Koeman but Saints do not normally bring in high profile names - either manager or player (underwritten by the disaster that was Dani Osvaldo) - as there is something to be said for not having superstars who believe their own publicity. I do, however, think we'll lose some players. It was inevitable that when a small city club looks as though it will threaten the big boys real money begins to talk. It happens everywhere. Remember Deportivo La Coruna, as an example. We were last season's upstarts and, because of the power of the London, Manchester and Liverpool football businesses we are about to be put in our place. Eighth was a real achievement. Something above twelve next time would be good. And for those who criticise Les Reed, let's be honest, his policy of having all age teams playing to the same system has paid many dividends and should continue to so. Lallana and Lambert will be difficult to replace because of their creativity but, in other positions, we do have talented youth in abundance. I think that retaining the midfield - Schneiderlin, Cork, Wanyama, Davis - will see us at least safe next season and in a realistic spot.
