How Could The Europa League Affect Saints Fixtures in 2015/16 Wednesday, 17th Jun 2015 13:39 by Nick Illingsworth The seasons opener against Newcastle United will definitely be moved from the Saturday as we will be involved in a Europa League game on the Thursday, but what other games could have to be moved. Of course as we don't know yet just how far we will go in Europe it is still up in the air, so far its just the Newcastle game, but if we win through our first hurdle then Watford away on the 22nd August will need to be moved, followed by Norwich City at home will both also be moved from the Saturday to either Sunday or worse still Monday. If we win through both these rounds we will then be through to the group stages and that will see a further 6 games needing to be rescheduled they will be with the current Saturday date shown. Manchester United h 17th September Chelsea a 3rd October Liverpool a 24th October (Liverpool could be still in Europa League even if we arent) Sunderland a 7th November Man City a 28th November Crystal Palace a 12th December That would mean if we qualify for the group stages then we will have had to move 10 Premier league games out of a total so far of 16 from the initially scheduled Saturday kick off and there could be more should one of the remaining four games be chosen for TV viewing. The good news is that firstly only two of these would be home games and secondly a fair few of these games might well have been chosen for TV and moved anyway. Those who put off buying a season ticket because of possible moving of home games can rest easy and purchase that ticket now. But it does bring home the reality of what being in the Europa league will mean, both from a perspective of how many games we will need to play as well as how many will actually need to be moved. It also highlights just why we need to build a stronger squad than last year. Photo: Action Images via Reuters Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
