Southampton Confirm Loan Signing Of David Brookes From Bournemouth
Tuesday, 30th Jan 2024 19:34

This news will come as no surprise to most Saints supporters, it's been reported that he was having a medical today for the last 24 hours and he now makes the short trip across the New Forest.

Brooks joins on loan till the end of the season and he becomes the second addition of the January window, the other being his team mate at the Vitality stadium Joe Rothwell.

Lawrie McMenemy always used to talk about hod carriers and violinists, he always thought that teams had to have contrast and the two loanees from the Cherries certainly have that, whilst Rothwell is here to bring strength and energy to the midfield, Brooks is here to bring flare.

The Welsh International who has 27 full caps for his country to his name, has made 114 appearances and scored 20 goals for Bournemouth since arriving at the club in 2018 from Sheffield United.

Southampton Director of Football Jason Wilcox, said:

“We were clear coming into this window that we ideally wanted a wide player, and David’s name was at the very top of the list, so we’re extremely pleased to have added him to the squad.

“He’s a very talented and dynamic player who will further increase both our quality and depth.

“It’s been a very positive month of business with the additions of Joe and now David, and we feel we’ve put ourselves in a strong position for the remainder of the season.”

David Brooks said:

“I’m really happy. With the past couple of years with my situation, just to kind of come here and try and get some game time, I’m really looking forward to it and can’t wait to get started.

“That’s why I’ve made the decision to come away from Bournemouth. I think the game time was a little bit limited there at this present time so I was very eager to get to a point where I wanted to be playing regular minutes and this opportunity came up and it was one that I couldn’t really turn down.”

The addition of Brooks gives Saints another attacking option and if we lose no one in the window, we now probably have the most potent attack in the Championship, arguably even if we lost Che Adams we would still feel that we are still stronger going forward than any of our rivals.
