Inter Milan Interested In Southampton Youngster

Reports in Italy are suggesting that the Italian giants are taking a big interest in only of the club's up and coming players, have Saints missed a trick here.

Eyebrows were raised in the Saints fanbase when it was announced that Jay Robinson would be allowed to go on loan to Monza in Serie A, the 19 year old made a big impression a year ago when he burst into the Southampton first team and played a big part of the unbeaten run.

All in all he started 7 Championship games plus another 19 off the bench, scoring twice and registering an assist before a calf injury effectively ended his season in February.

Many thought he would play a big part in this season, so it was a surprise when it was announced that he would be heading for a season long loan at Monza, not just for the fact that we were letting him go, but for the fact that living in a different country where presumably he didn't speak the language is a big step for a teenager.

But he seems to have made a big impression, his first appearance was as a substitute at Inter Milan in front of over 75,000 people, after a 4-1 defeat for Monza he found himself on the bench for the second game.

But starting in the 3rd game of the season, he scored in a 1-1 draw at Parma and followed that up by a start in the 4th game of the season.

The Monza manager is of course Ivan Juric who needs no introduction to Southampton supporters.

Now according to the72.co.uk Robinson has attracted attention from one of the biggest clubs in Italy Inter Milan.

They claim that Inter Milan are following his progress after the start to the season that he has had. The Italian giants have already been scouting the Southampton man in the early weeks of the campaign.

Whether that will turn out to be anything more concrete it is too early to say, after all Robinson has only played in 3 Serie A matches so far and the Italian football media is notorious for a good speculative story.

But it can only be good for Saints in the long run. whether there is a recall option in January is unclear, but he may well return to St Mary's either to play in the first team next season or as hot property in the transfer market.

Completely understand why he has gone on loan and this is a good outcome if true. I always hoped he would be the back up to Azaz rather than as a left winger. Maybe he will in due course, if he has a successful loan spells and develops accordingly. Be sorry to see him sold for a small fee.
