Excellent runner from left back, drives into the box and gets past players with ease at U23 level, clearly has good technical ability as shown by some of his free kicks (that said, I think Jamie Hanson even once had a reputation as a set piece specialist at youth level). I'd hope it is just a loan but yes, if he's not going to overtake any of our existing LBs....
Disappointed we’ve let him go on a permanent at his age, he still had potential to me, would have rather have seen him haven’t loan at league one level if he’s at that level then come back for the first team.
I like Callum but if he's behind Lowe & Buchanan in the pecking order then it could be time to move him on, unfortunately.

Last week when MacDonald's name was first mentioned, the speculation was that there was no chance of a permanent deal for such a prospect.
Highly thought of by Derby fans, ex U23 captain, and ex U23 player of the year and he's only 21.
What sort of fee did we pay for him?

Confirmed: Player leaves Derby County
Blackpool have completed the permanent signing of defender Calum Macdonald from Derby County, the League One side have confirmed.
The 21-year-old left-back has signed a two-year contract at Bloomfield Road, with the option of a further 12 months as part of the deal.
Macdonald, who had made his way up through the youth ranks at Derby, became a regular with the Rams’ Under 23s during his time at the club, and was an unused substitute for the first team on a number of occasions, without ever making a senior appearance for the club.
The defender does however have some first-team experience to his name, having made 21 appearances for National League side Barrow during a loan spell in the 2017/18.
Following confirmation of the deal, Macdonald becomes Blackpool’s 12th signing of the summer transfer window, and speaking to the club’s official website, the defender said: “I’m very, very excited. We agreed that it was time for me to move on and try and establish myself in the game.
“When Blackpool came in, a massive club, it was something that didn’t really take much thinking about. The team’s flying and I can’t wait to be part of it.”
Seasiders boss Simon Grayson also discussed his side’s latest signing, revealing a long-term interest in Macdonald as he said: “Calum is a player that we’ve been aware of for some time.
“He offers versatility down the left-hand side and is at a good age where he will develop. He’s another good addition who adds competition for places.”
Blackpool currently sit second League One, having gone undefeated in their opening five league games of the season, winning three and drawing two.
The Verdict
This looks to be a good signing for all involved.
For Macdonald, this is a move that gives him the opportunity to stake his claim for more regular football at EFL level this season, and with a side that appears to be showing early signs of a push for promotion to the Championship no less.
Blackpool meanwhile are adding another option to their ranks ahead of what will be a long and difficult season, with a player who does seem to have the potential at a high level of the game, given his past recruitment by the Rams.
For Derby themselves, I think this probably suits them as well. Macdonald wasn’t really getting the regular football he would have wanted, so it makes sense for them to allow him to move on in search of that in the final days of the summer transfer window, with the Rams having plenty of options in their defence to be able to cope with his departure.

The 21-year-old failed to make a first-team appearance for the Rams, but did feature in the EFL Trophy with their Under-21 side.

The left-back, who was initially reported to be joining the Seasiders on loan, becomes Blackpool’s 12th signing of the summer.
Macdonald said: “Since I knew about Blackpool’s interest I’ve kept a real close eye on their results to see how they’re going. They’re absolutely flying and I can’t wait to be a part of it.
“It’s a long time since I’ve had a change like this. It’s the first time I have moved since I was 11 years old but I can’t wait to get started. I’m very, very excited.”
Macdonald, who came through the youth ranks at Pride Park, has yet to make a senior appearance for the Rams.
But he has been in and around the senior squad and was named on the bench for numerous Championship fixtures.

The Seasiders were initially expected to bring the left-back in on a loan deal from Championship side Derby County.
But the 21-year-old has arrived at Bloomfield Road on a permanent deal earlier this week, penning a two-year deal with the option to extend by a further 12 months.
It has not been revealed if a fee was involved, but Grayson insists both sides were satisfied with the eventual agreement.
“Without going into too much detail, it was more about the opportunity for the player to come,” the Pool boss told The Gazette.
“Derby recognised what the lad had done for them by coming through the ranks but wasn’t going to be ready for them.
“It was a deal that worked for us and it worked for Derby too.”
