Senedd election 22:58 - Apr 4 with 20499 views | CwmafanJack | How do you see it ending up? Personally can see labour loosing quite a few votes to plaid not enough to make a significant difference though. Can see the tories doing better than expected but abolish taking votes off them. Odds on labour plaid coalition. Constituency changes can't see many. Plaid to take llanelli and maybe Carmarthen west and south pembs with outside chance Caerphilly, Cardiff west Tories to take Bridgend and maybe one or two up north east Wales. Labour not to win any new seats

Senedd election on 16:21 - May 8 by felixstowe_jack | Well done labour gained one seat. While your PC independence party disappeared. Thanks for pointing out the opion polls were wrong again including you post that 43% of Wales are in favour of independence. PC managed just 20% Vote increase constituency seats. Labour 5.2% Conservatives 4.7% Vote increase regional seats. Conservatives 6.3% Labour 5.0% |
You understand that it is more difficult to increase your seats when you have a lot to start with? That will be the same for the Conservative government in the next general election. I would think they will win but doubt the will increase their seats in Westminster. The political pundits say it was an excellent result for the Labour and Conservative parties.

Correct the political experts and a few pundits on this forum said the Senedd election was all about the voters endorsement of Drakeford and Johnson handling of the pandemic plus the surge in support for independence. Unfortunately everyone got it wrong in the 40 constituency seats only 3 changed hands. Conservatives won two 1 each from labour and liberals. Labour won a seat from.PC. The Real battleground was in the regional seats where 7 changed hands all lost by UKIP Conservatives gained 4, labour, PC and liberals gained one each. The only thing that changed in the elections was who got a all the votes UKIP lost . They were equally shared by Labour and Conservatives.

The regional seats allocation is bizarre. I was amazed that Labour received a seat.

Doesn't that mean the polls were wrong rather than Felixstowe?

I appreciate the Lib Dems got 1 seat, but to all intensive purposes Wales is now a 3 party country and England is a 2 party country. Starmer has a tough gig on his hands. The left of the party are up in arms and harping back to the Corbyn era pointing to Hartlepool, but the electorate showed what they thought of about the respect of a left leaning Corbyn government in the last GE when Labour were trounced. If Starmer wants to lead a Labour Government, he has to retain his core support AND move towards the middle ground to attract the floating centre vote that once belonged to the Lib Dem’s, similar to what Blair did. If he doesn’t do that they are finished. These Momentum types need to see that or they’ll languish in opposition for years. Boris has a few questions to answer going forward and I think there are some some choppy waters, but he appeals to people, the Tories will stick with him until the baggage becomes too heavy - then they will bin him and appoint a new leader. They’ll be in power for a fair few years.

I said something similar on another thread. Starmer is fiddling around the edges and hasn't made any real impact. The Corbyn hangover is still there. I also said it's a mad world when even after Bojo's behaviour the conservatives have pulled further ahead.
