Talking of worlds of optimism, I had a look at the Blackburn forums to see what they thought about Armstrong before the transfer rumours surfaced. One of them said that with his pace he will become "world class". Meanwhile there was also a pessimist who said that he was lazy, poor defensively and that he'd be better used as an impact sub. The player he was most likened to was not Blackburn's own Alan Shearer, but Michael Owen.

At his age and with his pace and goalscoring record, they'd be very unlucky to get less than £18 mill for him. He's got to be worth at least that. We paid more than that for Carrillo and he was a year older and slower and had only scored a total of 15 goals in 3 years in Ligue 1. [Post edited 6 Aug 2021 13:32]

We paid £15m for Adams, so it has got to be at least that much, and probably more given the dearth of real prospects. Abraham looks to have out ego'd himself from an AV deal, and frankly, you have to wonder if that isn't the real problem why Tuchel is not interested in playing him. |  |

Abraham is a non starter on a perm deal. Armstrong has 1 good season behind him, 1 year left on his contract so different to Adams. Will be a case of who blinks first, the sell on clause Newcastle have is a factor. What we spent on Carillo has no bearing on this, not least because those who sanctioned that deal are o longer at the club. | | | |

Probably, and I expect we value him a bit higher but we don’t seem in a rush to put in a higher bid which makes me wonder if we are looking at other, possibly better, targets. The important thing though is not to rush through a signing just to appease us fans. They have to get this signing right and if that takes a bit more time, so be it. |

That's how we roll now: sell 1 good player, buy 2 average ones; sell 1 average player, buy 2 poor ones until the quality of the squad has been reduced so much that we are left with a lot of players not good enough for the Premier League who have to be loaned out.
Before the 2 for 1 transfer strategy worked because of the genius of our former Head of Recruitment, Paul 'Black Box' Mitchell, but he has long gone. [Post edited 7 Aug 2021 11:08]

Its a poor policy if you get the choices wrong so it makes no difference. Dirk is right we do not have the expertise at the club to enforce the policy , so its the wrong policy.
There has been absolutely zero communication from the owners, this is criminal. Villa's owner came out about Grealish , even the Yanks and Co at the Euro rebels came out and spoke.

In the PL, 99% of people saying anything are salaried lackeys by that definition, unless you include the 'pick me' pundits. In which case, the owner pronouncements go down to about 0.1%. | |
