I.T. (New laptop) advice please 17:09 - Apr 3 with 2677 viewsLogman

Got to buy a new laptop. Am leaving my job so got to return my LB Camden Dell and need a replacement principally to browse the internet at home, do the odd online Skype/Zoom meeting and bits and pieces on Microsoft Office. Not looking for anything super lightning quick or mega-powerful. Longevity, economy, reliability and security are more important requisites. Any good recommendations please ?

Like I say, not looking to rival MI5 from it, just looking for something which does what it says on the tin.

Thanks in advance.

Don't do Lenovo. If you've been happy with your Dell, they have several good value options, as have HP.

Maybe look at a chromebook. Lot cheaper than a more regular laptop and more suited for what you want such as predominantly online stuff.

p.s. LB Camden?... were you based at Pancras Square?

Echo the above - don't touch Lenovo.

I've always found the Asus brand to be reasonably priced and reliable.

Thanks all for the advice. Will avoid lenovo.

Yes, I'm at 5PS. Sadly they are all Arsenal or Tottenham in the building.

Wouldn't say I'm great on IT advice but I've had a DELL Inspiron 17 5000 Series for a few years now, 17" screen which is good for watching the footy streams, Its bloody still rapid and has acres of memory.
Swich It on In the morning and honestly within seconds I've got the news channels and e-mail.
When I was working all us site Managers had Company supplied DELL laptops, our IT people swore by them they were bloody good workhorses.

Have had an ASUS for a year or so and I’m very happy with it. Got a good deal on it at Curry’s PC World

HP or Dell are a fairly safe bet.

I would say Dell have better build quality/materials but their support/sales are shocking.

As others suggest, Lenovo are a bit naff at the lower end of the market but they do try at the top end.

Framework are worth a mention too. Linus Tech Tips YT channel has shares and posts regular company updates that are actually relevant to tech guys.
