Halifax match thread on 14:24 - Oct 24 by jonahwhereru | I’ll put it another way. Neither side deserved anything from the game. It was a stalemate and neither team deserved to win. No Southend fans spoken to since I got back have said Southend played well. They watched a poor game like myself. You thought Southend probably had plenty left in their locker and could step up a gear if needed to You may be right and that may be why the fans here are not happy with the their team’s inconsistency this season. They could just be dossing their way to mid table obscurity. But I think Maher is to smart to allow that. |
Southend ran us around in the first half and won at a Canter i thought, they didn't look poor to me. They should have been two up at half time, we got away with the header that just went the wrong side of the post and their winning goal was a legitimate one, irrespective of what McNulty suggested. The Southend fans thought it was a decent performance on their forum (Shrimperzone). I appreciate we all see games differently so I respect your take on the game, as the away team i thought Southend were solid and they got their tactics spot on. [Post edited 24 Oct 14:39]

Both teams on Tuesday were miles better than Southend were on Saturday. That's the inconsistency on show. Dale seem to be over cautious at home. No idea why, but they have little to fear if only they would play AT PACE.

Less time being slow and ponderous and more time showing intent and commitment we will be more than fine. The defeats aside when we shot ourselves in the foot on occasions I would argue the 3 draws could easily have been 3 wins and 6 more points. Dagenham at Spotland 1-1 - Dominated the first half and squandered a host of chances. Forest Green at Spotland 0-0 - Hindsight a decent point but had the clear chance to win it. Ebbsfleet away 2-0 up to the 3 crazy minutes on 64. I know its woulda coulda shoulda but this league is their for the taking by the ruthless club who become consistent in taking 3 points most weeks.

We should have got something at York. Contrary to what some have suggested i thought we could have picked up at least a point and the first half in particular we had enough of the ball to have scored. Dropping Beckwith to the bench was very instrumental in us losing the game, we gave York a leg up and their goal was a comedy of errors, as was Ebsfleet. So you are right, we have been our own worst enemies in regards to dropping points.

Halifax looked decent... Maidenhead for a 25 minute period looked pretty good. As did York. Its a very open national league 24/25 - so who wants to be that one team that goes on THE run and finishes top?.
