That Luton substitution fiasco happened to McClaren in one of his final games in charge for us. Fourth official got the board wrong, looked like he was taking a striker off while losing at home to Bolton, crowd absolutely flips out, McClaren flapped around, eventually got it right, burned a load of time off.

Wasn't that Wsolek he wanted to take off? It was particularly tone deaf for a manager with a less than cordial relationship with the fans as he'd been great that day. I can't remember a time when a sub announcement was met with such hosttility by the crowd. I was in the Paddocks that day and he just panicked for a moment in horror and then started waving his arms about saying 'no, not Pav' pretending an error had been made. But we all knew. Definitely signalled the final straw with a fanbase that never really warmed to him. |  |
