I don’t think the club should be putting out information if they think a player isn’t good enough. That would be ridiculous. It would be horrible for the player who’s an employee after all and deserves some degree of care. Also it doesn’t make any commercial sense.
Similarly why say he’s injury prone. Players after all can have a run of injuries and then sort it out so they haven’t got a crystal ball. The injury list itself is a different issue and needs to be resolved.
I would think the comms weren’t doing their job if they put out the kind of messages you seem to want. How is that going to attract other players. Of course they should be transparent about injuries but saying someone is crap would be crazy.
Transfers have always gone wrong at times - you just have to look at the list of players who’ve been on our books that none of us can remember now - but I didn’t want the club for example to say Celar was a massive mistake and he’s crap. Eventually we got something for him which is better than nothing. Sometimes you just have to read between the lines and not get too hot and bothered about it. |

Yes Tyler and Andy on the stream pointed this out. They were pealing back to the far post and we failed to pick this up several times. It’s another issue I’m guessing with injuries because they maybe aren’t so drilled into what their jobs are defensively.
But the delivery was something special nearly every time. That’s something we need to improve on. Vale should be doing better with that. He’s got the skill as I’ve seen him do it but yesterday was poor. I don’t think Southampton hit the first defender once yesterday with free kicks or corners but we regularly do it. |

I don’t think that you can look at how teams played against other teams and conclude how good we are. Sometimes teams and managers raise their games against the ‘better teams’ because they expect to have to work harder. For example if Man Utd had played against other teams the way they started against Chelsea yesterday they wouldn’t be 17th in the league. But those players were up for it against Chelsea even though they imploded eventually. Southampton knew we had beaten Swansea handsomely. It wouldn’t be hard to get them to raise their game Maybe less so against Bolton and Portsmouth.
We didn’t play our best either. Maybe part of the difference is where we were weak yesterday is where the best teams are strong: in midfield. They absolutely pulverised us in midfield without Madsen. Same against Birmingham. It’s a pity that we’d only just played Birmingham with a similar team because Eckhart just needed to follow it as a template. Play through our midfield and overload our right hand side. Which is exactly what he did. We don’t have the pace without Burrell and Mbengue to catch them napping so they could push right up. I don’t blame Adamson because I was right by him against Birmingham and time after time he had two or three players to mark. Stephan needs to solve that against the better teams because you can’t hang your FBs out to dry with no support. It’s also the flaw of playing Smyth up front because he’s a better cover for Kemper than anyone else is.
Unfortunately it is still a problem that we can’t get our best players fit. Playing Varane, Kamara, Vale and Poku against Matsuki, Azaz, Scienza Ward Porwse and Bragg is not really a fair fight! |

You’re right about the pace, but didn’t you think their passing was pretty slick and their dead balls were hugely better especially corners? Madsen’s corners would’ve been better plus shown more dynamism in midfield and Burrell would’ve provided more pace and guile so we missed both of them. |

I don’t think we were bad although they were better. They made it hard to play our game because they kept passing between our lines which made us nervy about pushing up too much. We really needed a bit more dynamism in midfield as we weren’t really asking them enough questions that they had to drop back.
Their passing is very slick and our defence struggled to contain them round our penalty area. Only against Birmingham did we struggle so much. But with Madsen and Burrell we would’ve posed a bit more threat so they wouldn’t push up so much. But only Birmingham and Southampton so far have really made us look ordinary and they’re going to be pushing for automatic places I’m guessing. |

Vale isn’t strong enough in midfield against the better sides. Maybe it’s his lack of pace in that he can’t get up and down the pitch. But I’m disappointed with his dead balls. That’s practice and application. |

He did a decent job and I remember him with thanks if not quite gratitude. But he wouldn’t have been worth splashing the cash over and Kemper is a lot better IMO. |
