I’m not as ‘experienced’ as some the illustrious posters on here, but I can remember them being 18p in the late 80s Out of curiosity, I looked that the Bank of England inflation calculator and if stamps had kept pace with inflation, it would bow cost 47p
| How much?! on 21:36 - Dec 3 with 438 views | majorraglan | It’s extortionate. I took my mum shopping earlier and she bought a book of second class stamps, was around £7. I had no idea first class stamps were so expensive. A mate of mine was a postie until he retired a few months ago, he recommends sending all post second class as there’s only 1 delivery these days and that’s if your lucky. Even though there’s a requirement to deliver first class letters the next day, “management” want the parcels to have priority even that means not doing the letters as they are supposed to. My mate told me as there is not OT available, if you have a heavy round with lots of parcels letters aren’t delivered and their taken back to the depot for the next day, or the next day or the next day. | | | |

Unfortunately mail volumes are about 25% of what the were in the 1970, yet Royal Mail overheads and infrastructure are the same.

Royal Mails peak for letters was around 2005. They're apparently 90% down on hat now. Overheads and infrastructure are vastly different to the 70's, heck even in the 90's it had changed massively and the current owner is busy moving smaller delivery offices into bigger buildings and selling off property. The TPO more or less stopped in 2004 an1d was switched to lorries. All train use stopped last year.

| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

The right wing lot sold the country off though. Manufacturing, engineering, railways, Royal Mail etc etc. we have nothing left. Look at the state of the country. That hasn’t happened over the last 16 months.

That's why I said left and right of centre, I see good in both sides just either side of centre.

Everything is done online now , jobs lost again due to AI and potential scams available by anyone ready to fleece the vunerable . Sent a seaside postcard from Blackpool once years ago back home long ago . All text , SMS and social media these days , you can see why The Royals Mail are struggling .
