According to Coludata, all but six players are out of contract next summer - Akande, Lisbie, Perry, Terry, Tucker, Williams.
I really hope we have options on the likes of Macey, Bishop and Payne - we need them and I don't want us to cash in now.
Right now I'd offload JK Gordon and take any money for Edwards and Tovide.

Lisbie & Tovide remain at Col U which is excellent news. Looks like Mbick will stay until the end of the season (Charlton won't recall him). I think Jordan Thomas from Cheltenham was the target if Lisbie left (though looking at his stats and his scoring ratio of 4 from 22 games we ultimately made the right decision). I cannot help but be surprised that we managed to keep our best assets. It would have been easy to sell them to give us a little bit more wiggle room for a potential quality asset, though on paper we actually have quite a large squad.
January is a horrible month and the last couple of years have left us fearing our prized players will leave. Cowling is a hard negotiator but I cannot for one minute believe he actually sanctioned the transfer of Lisbie, without us finding a replacement.
Maybe he might have agreed on the basis of a transfer pending, but I truly believe that we wouldn't have actually said yes and then rejected it last minute.
Overall, it's been a good window. If we can get players back fit soon and avoid injuries we might be able to push for the playoffs. | | | |

Seemed a strange signing to me. Not really the profile of player we need. Does this mean Read and/or Bishop are going to be out longer than expected? Although I wouldn't describe either of them as attacking midfielders. | |

I think with the fact that Lisbie & Tovide are staying & Mbick will see his loan spell out with us before returning to Charlton or being sold to Brighton or whoever this has been a good transfer window. It makes a refreshing change from the bad old days where we struggled and had to make do with the scraps.
It is the best decision for Lisbie to stay on as he will score more goals for us and this will add to his value considerably if he manages to score around 20 goals this season - especially if we go up to L1 and have new owners in charge by the summer.
As for the new lads, hopefully they can perform well and bring the goods. | |

I get he might be frustrated not to get a big move (and payday) during this window, but the reality is the deal has to be right for Colchester United. If he sticks at it, his move will be higher and for more in the summer.

My mistake, the X post in question was by Samson, a black screen with a 'locked' symbol to the tune of 'Locked Up' by Akon. Both Lisbie lads responded with emojis that appeared to be sympathetic, though perhaps poorly thought through. Samson quite quickly took the post down following plenty of negative reactions from supporters, and he has since explained it was never about disrespecting the fans, it was more about his career, and other matters related to his family situation. In a firsthand response from a supporter on X who had actually spoken to him, Samson recognised "we've stuck by him through good and bad, really appreciates us, more than we know". I believe Danny has previously hinted about Samson's family situation, so definitely time to turn the page on an unfortunate series of events and move on as far as I'm concerned. | |
