| Can Southampton Get Automatic Promotion Even With The Points Deduction on 13:03 - Oct 27 with 474 views | Southamptonfan | We can absolutely get automatic promotion. Didn't Coventry win the league by a much clearer margin than 4 points last season? The biggest indicator for me is that we are 8 points better off this season than this point last season and we ended up only 4 points away from top 2. That was the case even after a poor Christmas last season, so.we can afford a few defeats yet, that I don't see coming with this resilient side we have now after Tonda's news. This season, another metric is that we have beaten a lot of the teams that are up there with us or expected to be contenders: Swansea, Millwall, West Ham, Bristol city, Norwich. The big one will be beating Middlesbrough at home. If we can beat them as well as West Ham, the 4 point deduction has been wiped out. I also sense a real determination from.the squad to put 2 fingers up at the EFL. James Bree explained after the West Ham game, that Saints want the title. I beleive him. [Post edited 27 Oct 13:04]

The only caveat this season as opposed to last is that we have 2 fairly established PL teams in the Championship. WHU and Wolves have big resources and both teams haven't clicked yet, like us. Throw in Middlesbrough aswell and they look tougher competition than last season. However, we have the best manager in the division and he has the ability to out- think the opposition, so I feel over the rest of the season we really can achieve top spot. Although proper help for Larin is crucial, it's heart warming to know that virtually everyone in our team is capable of scoring.

It's also hopeful that Dobbin can get better and better and he could be a real option for goals and creating chances even when Larin is back. The hope too, is that in January, we can bring in another decent striker to help Larin, in the same way that we brought in Larin last January to really push us on. I would guess that we will send Mubama back. Ramsdale might even be sold, releasing some funds and wages.

Despite a terrific win away last weekend, that is where we are dropping points. West Ham, Swansea, Middlesboro & then Wolves are the top 4 best away teams in the league on current form (in that order). We're 13th on away form alone with W2 D2 L2. Home form is superb of course - we're top of the current form league table on that note. Just need to improve our away form if we're seriously aiming for the auto spots. I'm sure statistic junkie Tonda Eckert is well aware of that himself.
