If Johnson backs down to a footballing hero he can claim that he is listening to the will of the people and is a kind and caring Prime Minister. If Johnson backs down to the Opposition Party he is a weak leader. Didn’t you notice how he ignored Starmer’s calls for a short lock down (when we should have done it a few weeks ago at half term) but called it in his own time (and too late). If he had called it earlier he would have been accused of dancing to the tune of the Labour Party. If Rashford had no part in this and it was Starmer pushing it alone, do you honestly think that he would be doing a u-turn? I think the Party have also realised how bad they looked in the eyes of the voters when they voted against the motion.
