Enjoyed that. Love the way the players mostly ended up in normal jobs after finishing playing. Sad about Bobby.
Yeah. I went to Bobby Stokes's funeral at Portchester Crematorium - just to pay my respects really for 'that' goal and what he'd done for the club. I only lived a few miles up the road at the time and he deserved that. I knew he'd had a terrible time the last few years of his life.
Lawrie was there & most of the '76 team as well as some other pretty big names from football gone by. I remember well the magnificent floral tributes from Saints, Pompey and the FA ; football-shaped floral tribute, football pitch-shaped flowers, club crests all done in flowers, etc. It was a nice send off as funerals go but aged just 44, it was way too young. Hopefully he's looking down on Saturday and somehow influencing a Saints win!

Jim Steele once told me the story of how his hair turned from Ginger to grey overnight.
After leaving Saints he played for Washington Diplomats in the US League, after finishing his playing career he got a job with one of the club sponsors who ran an electric business.
The job was to fit new underwater up lighting in the big ornamental pond in front of Washington Dulles airport ( that bit is definitely true I have been there)
They had to drain the pond, fit the lights and then refill it, after doing that and checking the new lights were working and because it was like 30 degree heat they dived in the pond to cool down.
They then went back to the main office to take the stop cock handle back and the fella in the office said he hoped they hadnt touched the water when they re filled it as it contained chemicals that killed the pond weed etc and was quite toxic, him and his mate looked at each other worryingly.
When Jim woke up in the morning he looked in the mirror and he had gone grey over night.
