Mohammed Salisu ! The Invisible Man on 18:28 - Oct 23 with 751 views | dirk_doone | Maybe Ralph read your article, Nick. He mentioned him in today's press conference: “He has been in team training this week, completely, but we have to be careful with him. There were some bigger issues we had with him and these issues will last a little bit longer, so we have to take care of him, but he is coming back. Maybe it takes one more week and then he is able to play, but we will give him all the time he needs to solve his issues."

Use of the word "issues" is open to conjecture. It hardly settles the question. Why can't they just say what the problem is instead of edging around it?

Maybe Vestergaard gave him a Chinese burn early doors and told him he’s the daddy, wouldn’t let him join the card school, something like that.

Once they get him off the booze and crack and diet of burgers and chips, he'll be fine.

Hmm issues. Sounds to me like Salisu isn't up to the high standards, either physically or mentally that Ralph expects. He might have a poor diet, poor health choices or something like that.

To be fair, to get a Premier League class central defender for just £10 mill nowadays means there are bound to be mitigating issues. Even Brighton's second best central defender is currently valued at £50 mill+. By the way, I'm not knocking this approach . The reason we got Danny Ings for just £20 mill was the fact that all of the other clubs, including Liverpool, thought he was permanently crocked. Buying players cheap because they have "issues" is a calculated risk which can pay off. McMenemy was good at taking similar risks in the transfer market, which is the reason we won the cup in '76 and finished runners-up in the league in '84. [Post edited 23 Oct 2020 23:01]

Yep. We just hope that his "issues" are easily resolved. If it is a matter of fitness and / or health choices, these can be sorted. But if he has a bad attitude, is home sick or something, that is more of a worry. The worry for fans is that we don't know and just leaves us all guessing! [Post edited 23 Oct 2020 23:09]

I remember the saga of Charlie George's knee and I still think McMenemy was right to take that risk. When you are a mid-table club like we are, you have to roll the dice in the transfer market if you want to outdo the wealthy clubs like Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City. [Post edited 23 Oct 2020 23:32]
