West Ham were utterly clueless against Newcastle and were lucky to let in just 5. It was clear however that Newcastle had done their homework and the long diagonal from right to left, exposing the flaws in the WH left back position worked time and again - and Moyes did nothing about it. I also watched the Brighton v Bournemouth match. Here you had Brighton players who all looked very comfortable in their positions and knew what to do with the ball when it arrived. That is the result of either relentless training in a set formation or set series of small groups within the team - or the sign of a really good player. Now Brighton have some decent players and a CF who is in the form of his life, but they are not top quality and therefore it must be a result of the coach drilling his team very well. Then Utd v Brentford. Utd are not the slick machine of a few weeks ago, but once in front they were not troubled. They had a belief that as long as they did the right things, the game was won. I then watched highlights (if they can be that) of our last three matches and in all of them, there was no plan, the speed of thought and passing was poor and any belief we had was brittle and was lost when we went behind. I am of the view that getting the points we need to survive is a very difficult task, especially if we don't compete against the teams around us. That is made more difficult if we have players who lack a plan, speed of thought and some will to display their skills, even if that is in the shop window looking for a move in the summer. Let's at least show that we can still sting teams. | | | | |
