I guess most posters on here at some point have played football, if you’re physically able to do so of course.
For me I mostly played right back, sometimes left but I was always a right foot player.
I played for my senior school for the 5 years I was there Then I graduated to play for local teams.
Being in my late teens I couldn’t be bothered anymore with serious football, so I played Pub Sunday games. The 10am kickoff was hard after being on the juice the previous night, but having a few pints and a packet of crisps after helped.
I was okay but not great, my attribute was I was good at running. Which got worse the more nights out I had 🙈
What about you lot , were you any good ?

I liked to stroll about passing it backwards or sideways.

I played for my school team in Ipswich as an inside right, used to have two wingers, inside right inside left and a centre forward in those days. I remember the old leather ball with the lace.

When I moved down here I played regular Winchester Sunday league football for Saxon sports as a midfielder.

Cricket was my main game, played for Soton Nalgo and played 40 years for a team called Soton Travellers in Hampshire league used to open the batting for 2 nds . We still have meet ups which is great .

I used to play in the same team as Nick, our illustrious site leader. He was quite the Gavin Bazunu of his day in the Sunday leagues.

Did you play with Graham Baker for the Travellers? I've played a few games with him, he's a great bloke.

That was a long time ago, I dont think i have played in goal seriously since about 1989.

Since leaving school I have played football mainly on a Sunday, although I have played for various teams in Saturday football when Saints have been away etc.

I used to play Sunday mornings in the Commercial houses league & then Sunday afternoons in the City Of Southampton Sunday league, I also played in the Sports centre floodlight evening league and back in the 1970's a few games in the afternoon Wednesday League

I must have played in every division and every league locally.

I have also at times played in the Portsmouth League ( Don't ask lol) the Bournemouth League and also played games in France, Spain, California & Holland, there might be another country in there somewhere, but I can't remember.

I must have played around 1,500 games of full 11 a side football since leaving school,, if you consider I played regularly from 1977 till 2018 a period of 41 years.

As Andy mentioned I have played in goal, I have also played as a central defender, at full back, in the centre of midfield, out wide as a winger and as a forward.

In short I could play anywhere, a utility player of no fixed ability.

I still play walking football now, both in friendly games and competitively and also a game of full paced 5 a side once a week.

The standard in both primary and secondary schools were always quite high so my position throughout school was non impact/unused sub (the Tyler Dibling of the day, so to speak).

As I got older and reverted to five a side, I played on goal and was fairly decent. I’ve got a Saints match day programme at home with a picture of me in full Anti Niemi kit playing in nets fo Saints foundation.

Ankle and hand injuries mean that I haven’t kicked a ball in anger for about 8 years.

In terms of playing career, cricket was my main game too.

Before flying the nest I played at Esso Fawley (Dad worked at refinery). We definitely played NALGO. There were great days out at Brockenhurst and Hampshire Hogs. plus the local derby vs Hythe and Dibden (bubble game)

Twice a year we played Old Tauntonians who would beat us like a red headed step child.

Our opener and WK was Tony who also was the head groundsman. At home games Tony would spend the opposition innings behind the sticks shouting at the batters...Get off the fookin middle of the fookin pitch you fookin c*ck s**ker.

Tony was a man of few words but they all had a c or a k in them somewhere.

Graham Baker joined after I stopped playing . He still plays for Travellers now( although it’s now North Baddesley and Romsey as Travellers have now merged with them ) . My dad used to open the batting with me and he was chairman of the club for many years.

Did you play for the travellers ? I might know you lol
