| Worse Saints Keepers Than Bazunu 11:29 - Oct 16 with 1764 views | SaintNick | I put this list up on another thread, but let's open the debate. If you think Gavin Bazunu is the worst Saints keeper ever then here is a random list of names of past custodians from 1970 onwards who were perhaps worse. I have just included those who were genuine first team regulars for a while and not short term loan keepers or those who got a game or two as deputy. So can you put up a case for them being better than Bazunu, (Ok i might accept Kelvin Davis for those 3 seasons) Angus Gunn Alex McCarthy Paulo Gazziniga Kelvin Davis for all but 3 seasons of his time here Bartosz Bialkowski Paul Smith Kevin Miller Dave Beasant Ian Andrews John Burridge Tim Flowers in his first 3 seasons Ivan Katalinic Terry Gennoe Ian Turner Steve Middleton I have just included those who were genuine first team regulars for a while and not short term loan keepers or those who got a game or two as deputy | |

| Worse Saints Keepers Than Bazunu on 13:30 - Oct 16 with 1649 views | hortonsaint | I didn’t rate Bazunu but never felt he was our worst ever- he made 90 odd appearances and was part of the record undefeated run. I wish him no ill will and I hope he gets a warm reception tomorrow. In terms of who was worse, I’d say Gazziniga and Gunn. Don’t think Andrews perhaps played enough games to qualify but I’d probably say him as the worst. Admittedly the final 4 were before my time. | | | |

Kevin Miller did a decent job to help keep us up in 2006-07. Very sad to hear of his recent passing at only 57.
| Worse Saints Keepers Than Bazunu on 16:28 - Oct 16 with 1354 views | shotters | John Burridge, one of the worst, really? Came in to replace a very young Tim Flowers who'd lost confidence and then mentored him into becoming the keeper he was. He also put Ossie Ardiles on his arse during a 2-1 win over Spurs on Boxing Day in 1987, that if nothing else means he can't be the worst | |

John Burridge was far from the worst. His pre match warm up routine was also legendary. [Post edited 16 Oct 18:34]

| Worse Saints Keepers Than Bazunu on 22:31 - Oct 16 with 1149 views | HytheFerrytales | Although he was arguably the best defensive wing half we ever had, Cliff Huxford was probably the worst keeper. In the pre subs days an injury to the keeper meant an outfielder had to fill in. Huxford was the designated "scapegoat" between 1961 and 1965. In the 1961 league cup game vs Leeds we got 4 up before Huxford shipped 4 , only for a late winner for us from Derek Reeves...who incidentally scored all 5 that night. Fun fact...Huxford's last stint as emergency stopper was in 1965....versus....can you guess..The fish molesters. | | | |

WALOB Bazanu worse than all of those, I’m hoping today he shows Nick just how shit he is and I also hope the Northam and the Chapel give him plenty of stick because he doesn’t seem like the type to thrive on it.

That’s a list of comparing apples to pears! Several of those keepers were purely Backup. Flowers improved massively, something Baz didn’t do. Miller brought in for a different level of football. Baz a big price tag and wages to play in the Premiership. Smith and McCarthy got into England squads while here. [Post edited 17 Oct 9:19]

| Worse Saints Keepers Than Bazunu on 17:16 - Oct 17 with 742 views | dirk_doone | As we saw today, Bazunu is a decent Championship goalkeeper, no more no less. We had our club record 26-match unbeaten run with him in goal, he was Pompey's Player of the Season before he joined us and I wouldn't be surprised if he was Bolton's Player of the Season. He's not one of the best goalkeepers we've had, but he's not the worst either. That would be Alex McCarthy followed by Dave Maclaren and Tony Godfrey. The reason McCarthy was the worst? He lacked the essential quality that all goalkeepers need, bravery, which meant he was afraid of getting hit by the ball at close range. A hopeless flaw. I've found that when others, including me, disagree with Nick about football, he usually turns out to be right. BBC Player of the Match: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo [Post edited 17 Oct 17:43]

No, I didn't. When do you think that was exactly? It's got to be at least 12 years since Chambers even played for Saints so if you can remember something I said from that long ago, your level of obsession with me must be off the charts. I should start making things up that you supposedly said. You'll like that. Incidentally, I saw Bobby Moore play against us, home and away, just after the World Cup Final, in the 1966-67 season. We scored a total of 8 goals against his West Ham team. He was always terrible against us, as he still was when he played against us for Fulham 10 years later and we scored another 4 goals against them. [Post edited 18 Oct 10:33]

How can you say that Bazunu is worse than Steve Middleton who played his last game 50 years ago, I can say that because is saw a fair chunk of his 30 games in total and I was only about 14 when he played his last game. How old where you in 75/76 when he played ? Yesterday Bazunu did what he had to do, yes Peretz made the better saves 2 to be precise and Bazunu did what he had to do on his 3. He looked confident and didn't have the fans on his back, I wish him all the best going forward in his career, it is as simple as that, I don't wish him any ill as he always tried his best, didn't demand transfers etc or cause any issues, if he wasn't good enough, then he is far frem the first or only player at this club to be guilty of that.

We bought him for 12mill and he effectively left on a free. That was the only way we could get rid of him. It’s a shame we didn’t test him yesterday. Why do you keep go on about not wishing him ill. No one on here does. As transfer business goes he’s up there with Carrillo as a purchase. Back in the days of Nasty Nick C , you loved nothing more than banging on about bad signings and how much they cost in wages , NI ,bonuses, pension payments etc etc etc . Well Baz would be 20mill down the drain. PS I was to young when Steve Middleton played, but reading his page on Wiki he was nothing more than Back up, playing 24 games in 7 years. Hardly comparing apples with apples. [Post edited 18 Oct 10:53]
