I don't think winning the ball was the issue yesterday, Burnley mostly couldn't wait to give it away. It was what we did with it that mattered. |

I agree with that part about Kamara winning and having the ball, Burnley's midfield was the almost impossible combination of anonymous and atrocious at the same time. But that just highlighted how much less suited he is to having to play a 10 role because shooting and final killer passes are not his strong point. All that ball, an absent opposition midfield, and yet so little danger created.
A little further back with a Chair for him to interact with and feed is much more his game I think. His middle third carry and link play is excellent. |

I haven't seen it mentioned on here before David but we've been playing that way since Swansea. The midfield four have often moved into more of a diamond at times. Varane deep, Vale/Poku/Saito a little more tucked in than usual although still drifting wide on occasion and Kamara pushing up higher into '10' territory. Worked well against Swansea ( Poku's good work to set up the 1st goal came from being more 'inland').
But it has some obvious issues. The main one for me being it makes Kamara less effective. As we've seen he really doesn't like to shoot or even try the killer pass. He's not great at receiving the ball with his back to goal either. He's so much more effective a little further back, facing the goal, progressing the ball and playing it in to the creative players. I think when Chair came on he moved further back and was more involved and able to play to his strengths.
Talking of Chair, how desperately do we need him if teams are sitting back and need unlocking? He looked a different level in terms of technique and that constant buzzing around desperate to be given the ball and make something happen. Looking forward to more of him. [Post edited 4 Nov 8:35]

I thinks he looks really good.
Seems strong in the one on one tackle. Got a better first touch than most of our forwards (low bar admittedly). Looks to attack with intent, aggression and tempo (which we often don't do enough of). Decent athlete.
If we had 2 players for every position of his and Kemper's quality we'd be a play off team. |

You might be right Mick but I think the difference these days is the amount of constant defensive sprints that players are expected to do now. Back in Lineker's day when his team lost the ball he'd stand in the centre circle scratching his balls till they got it back. Or even have a shit on the pitch in a World Cup quarter final without anyone even noticing! |

It was so unfair, we were the bestest and they didn't let us cheat our way to Wembley where we would have beaten Hull 8-0 and now be doing better in the Prem than the teams who finished higher than us last year because we are totally brilliant and would be nestling just above Brighton waiting to make our push for the title because we are totally amazing and aces. My sincere condolences to you and your family Dave.
Like many on here I never met your dad but still felt I knew him through his brilliant, witty, straight to the point, no nonsense, insightful posts. Seemed a genuine and lovely a bloke. His universal popularity and respect on here is unmatched. He'll be greatly missed.
It's a year and half since my (step) dad passed and remembering him now is all filled with joy and gratitude for his presence and a life well lived. I'm sure it will be the same for you.

Thanks Clive, that was a great listen with some 'top' questions.
I've become a big JS fan and I think he speaks really well. In depth, honest, intelligent, exploratory answers with little cliche and no bullsh1t. All in his second language!
Whatever the story/history behind the Kolli situation may be he is very clear where it stands now. I really liked the straight up nature of his reply/stance and I take him at his word. It is clearly up to Kolli to shape up, get his head down and make the most of his talent. The kind of football we are playing now is made for him, and our current combination of high number of chances created with under performing XG is crying out for someone who can strike a ball like he does. Come on son, are you up for it?
Absolutely love the whole 'standards' thing. Clearly more than just empty words. There will be no exemptions. Good.
Listening to him you can really see how his philosophical and psychological understanding and his ability to convey it to the players must play a huge part in the uptick of the quality and bravery we are showing on the ball this season. Getting them to trust themselves and the process, knowing results will come off that All with a lot of determination, belief and good old fashioned fight thrown in. Marvellous.
Very pleased to have him here.
