Tonda Eckert says Southampton are moving closer to completing a new signing after making encouraging progress in the transfer market ahead of the new Championship season.
With Ross Stewart having departed, adding another striker remains one of the club's priorities. While Eckert did not reveal which position a potential new arrival would play in, he hinted that supporters may not have to wait much longer for an announcement.
Speaking during Southampton's training camp in Germany, Eckert explained that negotiations are progressing well but stressed that transfers are rarely completed quickly due to the number of parties involved.
He said the club has made positive progress and hopes a deal can be finalised and announced in the near future.
Discussing possible departures, Eckert acknowledged that interest from other clubs is to be expected after the team's performances last season. He believes that attracting attention is a sign the squad has performed well and is confident the club will make the right decisions over any transfer business.
The Saints head coach also expressed his trust in sporting director Johannes Spors and the board, saying he is confident they will assemble a strong squad capable of competing this season, even if some transfer decisions take longer than others.
Eckert admitted he would prefer the transfer window to close before the start of the campaign, as most managers would, but accepted that the current system means clubs often have to deal with uncertainty after the season has already begun.
Despite that, he feels Southampton are in a strong position thanks to the core of players already at the club, giving the team a solid foundation while any remaining additions or departures are resolved 🙌❤🤍❤🤍 |

It literally says what the punishment is in the statement .
FA have charged Saints and Tonda with a breach of rule E.3.1. This is the FAs standard misconduct charge and carries a potential penalty of 1 to 3 match ban and / or undefined fine. The more serious misconduct charge is rule E3.2 which carries a minimum 6 match ban but hasn’t been quoted by the FA or Saints.
The club and Tonda have 7 days to respond to the charge and then (assuming there is no new evidence to clear them) the FA will announce the outcome. [Post edited 22 Jul 17:47]

I’m certainly no Labour fan but for me listening to Burnhams speech the other day he certainly came across very well . Starmer was just too nicey nicey. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few months. |

We’ve got a great record in limited overs cricket haven’t we having won 13 cups. I’ve seen most of their wins at Lords but only about half of their 20/20 finals .we’ve appeared in the same number of 20/20 finals days as Somerset (12 I believe )and we’ve both won it 3 times. I remember watching us win the John Player League in 1978 and the Championship in 1973. I would love to see us win the championship again we got really close recently didn’t we but Surrey pipped us.

Yes we would have won that game if it wasn’t for that run out. Such a shame as Weatherley and Dawson were batting so well. Oh well , roll on the one day cup games coming up at the Rose Bowl. Looking forward to them . [Post edited 19 Jul 21:36]

We handed the game to them on a plate. We had no outlet after the substitutions . Tuchel was brought in to change our style and be more positive and it worked for many games prior to this tournament. He gets to the World Cup and we do well with quick attacking play and then defensive later in some of the games because he has to ie when we went down to 10 men against Mexico. last night was not the game to defend and try and hang on for dear life not when you have a genius on the other side. Tuchel made a mistake, it happens but what a game to choose to do it. 🤦♂️ |
