I played for my school team in Ipswich as an inside right, used to have two wingers, inside right inside left and a centre forward in those days. I remember the old leather ball with the lace.
When I moved down here I played regular Winchester Sunday league football for Saxon sports as a midfielder.
Cricket was my main game, played for Soton Nalgo and played 40 years for a team called Soton Travellers in Hampshire league used to open the batting for 2 nds . We still have meet ups which is great . |

Southamptonfan I don’t think you need to worry about empty seats at Portsmouth with people not bothering to turn up .At the end of the day Saints fans who have followed their team up and down the country on a regular basis will get tickets. There will be a few exceptions I guess but on the whole the most loyal will be rewarded and rightly so.
There will also be some fans( bless them ) who attend saints aways regularly but just refuse to attend these type of games because it won’t be very nice for them and they are a bit nervous and there will be some who don’t go because they feel inconvenienced with the bubble. Each to their own I guess.
That is why it will probably go down to 12/ 13 aways. [Post edited 14 Dec 3:47]

In the late 60's early 70's i lived in ipswich and went to school there. I followed Ipswich my first game being a 4-0 win against Man united with Best, Charlton, Law all playing for Man United. I must have seen over 50 games at Portman Road.
My dad was a massive saints fan as was his dad, they were both born in Hampshire and regularly attended games at The Dell.
As a one off My dad took my brother and i to the Dell in 1971. we drew 0-0 with Derby county and from that moment onwards i was hooked on Saints. We moved from the Ipswich area to Chandlers Ford in 1972 for my dad's work and i have followed Saints every season since then mainly as a season ticket holder. I still get that buzz and anticipation before every season if i didn't i probably would'nt go. I've seen many saints fans come and go over the years but i guess its just something i love doing and i guess i'll probably still be going in 20 years from now health permitting. Managed to use the free wi fi which they now have onboard on certain airlines whilst I was flying back from Australia today . I booked my skate ticket today. It was a Nightmare trying to work out when to log on as the time differences vary because there’s so many time zones to fly through but I got there in the end buying a ticket online at Doha airport . Hi mate , I think I know a few that you know who are here . PD and MM ? Good friends of mine we’re going to meet them in Brisbane at the bar . I’m still on the plane I can’t work out how long I’ve been travelling ffs with all the different time Zones . We stopped at Doha first , another 5 hours to go I think ffs . 20 hour flight ffs. Managed to listen to a lot of it on the way up ,what a brilliant days cricket 🏏😀 |

I’m only doing the Brisbane test which is a day night match. I have a large family out there, some I probably won’t ever see again due to their age and distance from UK therefore I can’t really justify spending every day of the holiday watching cricket even though I’d love to. I agree we have a decent chance, some Aussies are already trying to get into Roots head saying he will fail due to the conditions, we’ll see about that . I understand your predicament lol. Couldnt care less about Scotland as they are no threat to England whatsoever. A bit like a little brother. The only reason they hate us is because they realise how inferior their team is to ours. I wouldn’t mind if they qualified. |

I visited Gold beach whilst enjoying a cruise around France, Spain and Portugal .
Completely off topic but an added bonus during the Gold beach trip was having the opportunity to chat to Dave Merrington who was also on the cruise with his family and his group were placed on our table for lunch. Lovely bloke , like many he couldn’t stand all the tippy tappy rubbish under RM He’s still very much a saints man and he also loved talking about his Burnley days. |

Sounds like a place I’d like to visit. Have you been on the Normandy beaches Nick ? I did Gold beach last year which was very moving. Seeing the Mulberry Harbours just left there in the sea and the huge German guns on the cliff tops that were left behind some of them destroyed by the British was eerie and very emotional.It Brought it home was these guys went through , they have my upmost respect .
