| Forum Reply | What has happened to the Defence? at 09:15 10 Mar 2024
Don’t really agree with any of the above. RM.has tweaked the system in response to injuries and probably to get more goals. Most teams do not commit many forward as against us so we rarely need four at the back. He plays 3 CBs and pushes 1 high. That is usually Jack S who unfortunately is not John Stones. It means when we lose the ball nobody really knows where they should be. IMO we need to go back to a classic back four. Like most possession based teams he also tells the FBs to tuck in securing the middle and inviting oppo to go wide. Most of the goals we concede are from players cutting in and shooting or cutbacks from wide to a player coming late to the box. To counter that defence and midfield need to close down much quicker. Baz is not perfect but his distribution is generally very good and I doubt any of the other keepers mentioned would do any better in our system |
| Forum Thread | The penalty and VAR at 08:58 10 Mar 2024
Still not sure about the penalty yesterday and why it stood unless they did not see the double touch. I was surprised they replayed it on the big screens while the officials were debating since they could have looked at it despite no VAR. |

We certainly did win 2-1 with a Danny Ings winner. Singing "Stick the 9-0 up your ar%e" at the end with my teenage daughter still remains one of the highlights of my away travel, particularly after they showed the highlights of the 9-0 just before kick-off |
| Forum Reply | Fair play award for the Saints? Er I don’t think so… at 10:26 13 Feb 2024
Not really a surprise. Given the press and the high line are a major feature of our tactics then a lot of players are "taking one for the team" and committing bookable fouls to stop breakaways. Good point though because suspensions will definitely have an impact in last 10 games. |

The whole ticketing system is a mess. Seems to really struggle with trying to avoid creating single seats, and then creates a load anyway. Often I choose 2 seats which are shown as available and then it says they are not available and allocates 2 which were not shown before! Ticket exchange also never seems to get switched on. |

On the Sky Sports clip of Joe Rothwell's screamer have a look at the replay from behind the goal and look at KWP's reaction - priceless! www.skysports.com/watch/video/13068418/joe-rothwell-scores-screamer-for-the-saints |
| Forum Reply | To those who booed the team off at half time.... at 09:55 11 Feb 2024
I would concentrate on the positives, the crowd in the second half were magnificent. OK they were fired up by 5 goals but particularly at 3-2 they really got behind the team. The rendition of Stand Up was supported all around the ground, not seen that for a while. Also this is the first time during this run that RM has really had to earn his corn at half time and he has passed another test with flying colours. Regardless of results and what happens with promotion he is a class act. Conducts himself well, doesn't criticise his players in public and has a positive attitude. |

Is there any way to get back to London by train that night? |

From the senior squad: Bella-Kotchap Alcatraz Onuachu Perraud Lyanco Lis Caleta-Car (although I don’t think Lyon can send him back) There are also quite a few youngsters |

I know we did not cover ourselves in glory with the Ross Stewart injury situation but just think about what we let go: Lavia = 32 mins then out with new injury Bella-Kotchap = 3 games out injured (shoulder) since October Salisu = 4 games out injured September to November Orsic = Out for season Lyanco = 3/10 Injured Livramento = Played 15/22 Tella = Played 150 mins in 17 games Djenepo = Played 15/16 Caleta-Car = Played 10/19 Perraud = Played 11/15 Diallo = Played 3/12 Dropped Elyounoussi = ever present JWP = ever present Tall Paul = ever present |

On that basis what is the point in keeping Holgate he won even be on the bench? Might as well contribute some cash to set him somewhere else. |

Tell your son not to worry. If it is only an option to buy then he will be back next season. He is a very talented player but he doesn’t have the patience for Italy where he will get kicked a lot. If £35m is true then it’s a good deal. |

He's a chippy little g*t who fell out with Eddie Howe twice. When he's happy and playing though he is top drawer and IMO the best wide player we have. RM does seem to be able to get a tune out of him. The Saudi Boys wont want him back with Gordon, Barnes and a couple of youngsters so will probably be up to us. |

Pretty punchy lineup for an away game. Charles is going to have a lot of work to do! COYR |

i think most of the spine of the team would be in with a shout but I would go for Flynn Downes. Very consistent, tidy and often unnoticed. Got off to a slow start but no co-incidence that him finding his feet has coincided with our goals conceded improving dramatically. Also has to cover for Smallbone who is still very poor defensively. |

Not sure about that. Check the numbers on Transfermarkt. My main point was what they started with was better which is why the manager went there |
| Forum Reply | Huge gap at 14:29 25 Oct 2023
It never ceases to amaze me how short peoples' memories are. Leicester are indeed a very similar size club to us in terms of fan base and stadium. However their owners are in a totally different financial league to any of our recent ones and more crucially have been prepared to lose to money on a substantial basis. When they won the Premier and the FA cup they had spent heavily on transfer fees and more crucially wages. It wasn't by chance that they signed Maddison and Maguire instead of us. The reason they were relegated was the fact that Covid decimated the owners Duty Free business and they simply had no more money to put in. Big wagers had to go and Rodgers couldnt sign anyone. Yes they lost 3 key players but they retained the likes of Ndidi and Iheanacho and spent big wages on Winks and Coady. Their manager is undoubtedly better than RM but we tried to get him and not surprisingly he took one look at the respective squads and made the right choice. we are paying the price of years of under-investment when we got what we paid for and then a panic splurge of poor spending which had to be recouped in the summer. Until we have an owner with more money than sense or find a local genius like Brighton and Brentford we will always be "under-achievers. Quality and depth of their squad will mean they will easily win the division. Ipswich will fade at some point so second place is up for grabs in a low quality league. Lets stop moaning about everything, get behind the team and see what happens. COYR |
