 | News Comment | Jan Bednarek Set To leave Southampton at 15:46:08
Bednarek is probably our best CH in conventional terms. However the style we play, where we often leave our two CH's exposed, doesn't suit his abilities. This may show if he goes to a more defensive side. Having said that if he is not happy here, then he needs to go but do we have the experience to replace him? We certainly have potential but is all that potential ready to come to the fore? Lets hope so COYR. |
 | News Comment | Premier League Fixtures Due Out This Week at 11:32:07
Almost the best part of the season for me, away games, working out if its worth an overnight stay or there and back. Always on the train, so much more fun. Better atmosphere at away games, even if the football sometimes spoils it. St Mary's is a bit quiet and we all know the reason why! Need to get the away fans out of our end!! Anyway bring it on EPL and I'll see you all soon! (not too many short notice changes please?) |
 | News Comment | Saints Confirm That Alex McCarthy And Jack Stephens Will Stay at 18:29:54
Not an accusation of lack of ambition but keeping players we have little use for is merely blocking the route for our youth. I personally have no problems signing experience but experience we intend to play, surely is the way forward. Passing on experience when not playing is a job for the coaching staff! |
 | News Comment | Leicester Interested In Southampton Midfielder at 18:22:03
Elyounoussi is no better or worse than the players he is in competition with, JWP and Romeu being the exceptions. Apart from those two all of our wingers/no 10's are much of a muchness and therein lies the problem. We have a fair few midfield players but no outstanding talent. We need an attacking central midfielder to play in front of JWP & Romeu and behind a front two, with five at the back allowing the full backs to push on. Armstrong is currently our best bet to play that role but for some strange reason we keep signing wingers and then don't actually use then as such???? |
 | News Comment | Minamino In Talks For St Mary's Return at 18:09:23
Not for me thank you! However getting a few good games under your belt and then being left out is, it seems, a recurring theme under Ralph???? |
 | News Comment | Saints Said To Have Completed Move For Ex Pompey Loanee Keeper at 17:58:18
We've left ourselves in a position where we desperately need a first choice goalkeeper. If he is to be our no 1, then we will definitely need to sign a commanding centre half. The lack of a dominant figure anywhere in our defence has proved to be very costly thus far and needs addressing! |
 | News Comment | Nottingham Forest Enquire About Will Smallbone at 09:45:46
A loan deal would be prudent & probably should have happened last season. There's a player in there, we have all seen that, how good he can be needs to be discovered. A loan is a win/win if he shows some ability his price will rise, if he shows great ability we can integrate him into the team and could save us a fortune! We need more of our youngsters on, decent, loans to asses their capabilities if they have potential keep them if not move them on. It might just save us some money on other clubs youngsters! |
 | News Comment | Southampton Once Again Look To Salzburg For A Striker at 11:49:22
7 goals in 30 league games, the same return as Adams but in an inferior league? He would if he came be one for the future. Do we not have anyone who may already fit that bill? It may be easier to find out if we arranged decent loans for our promising players and at a younger age. Our youngsters need to be playing against better and more physical teams than under 18's or under 23's if they are to progress to the first team! |
 | News Comment | Che Adams Linked To Leeds United at 11:39:42
Personally I would like him to stay and believe that he and Armstrong could form a good partnership, if we were a bit more adventurous. Strikers thrive on confidence, something Ralph may have drained from both Adams and Armstrong. But is there a reason he wasn't being picked? We don't see what goes on in training or behind the scenes, so maybe his attitude or application wasn't up to scratch. Or it maybe Ralph is a bit of a blunderer, we may not find out until some of the fringe players move on and either thrive or continue to fail! As for Danny Ings, he has scored the same number of goals (7) as Adams in the same number of games, whilst playing in a more attacking team, so is he he right player to bring back, I don't think so |
 | News Comment | Once Again The Silly Season Is Open ! Who Is Being Linked With Saints at 18:32:07
What's of more concern to me currently are the rumours of clubs circling our youngsters. With Liverpool apparently showing interest in Tyler Dibling and Diamond Edwards and Man City looking at Kegs Chauke. All whilst we appear to be more interested in the youth of others, the above plus Ryan Finnigan & Kazeem Olaigbe should be getting more involvement with the first team next season. I'd rather the club take a small risk on what we already have than waste the millions we have gambled on the likes of Djenepo! |
 | News Comment | Saints Sack Coaches As Long Needed Revamp Begins at 11:33:41
It's a start but is it a case of changing the wheels when the engine is not good enough, you can't coach a lemon into being an orange and we have a lot of lemons! We would all have differing views on who goes, who stays and who is undecided, mine are; Go - Wallcott, Djenepo, Stephens, Vallery, Cabellero, Long & Broja & forster who have gone any way! Undecided would be Diallo he is certainly not a defensive midfielder, Elyounoussi and Redmond, Tella they are more difficult to replace in my opinion and deserve a chance. Keep - KWP, JWP, Livramento, Smallbone, Romeu, both Armstrongs, Adams, Salisu, Peraud, Small and Lyanco although he frightens the life out of me most of the time! maybe promote a two or three from the other squads and buy/ loan a good spine, Keeper CB, CM and striker! | News Comment | New Era Begins At Southampton Football Club at 16:10:45
None of us currently know what the new owners have in mind, other than the fact they are not in it to lose money, and that may still include Ralph although I assume he is safe. I would suspect that our transfer policy will change very little and that we will need to move players out to enable incoming signings. Although this may prove to be problematic given that most of them will need to be traded downwards thus generating little income. My biggest worry (apart from Romeu moving on) is that we will not learn from where we have gone wrong, both on and off the pitch! Whilst I applaud the success of Livramento, Simeu and Small, what does that say about our academy, once a real jewel in our crown, remember these guys closed Brentford's as a cost effective move! Will we continue to sign wingers and try to turn them into number 10's, or do something radical like sign a number 10 and play to his strengths We clearly need a reliable central defender, although it is a fact that our two main CB's are 1 & 2 in most interceptions this season, doesn't that mean they have been over exposed most often? Lyanco is certainly not the answer, he reminds me of Mark Dennis in recklessness but without the ability! We also need to employ a very good goalkeeper, central midfielder and striker and maybe shrink the squad enough to allow a couple of our youngsters to progress? And finally adopt a system that enhances the ability of the people playing within it, not shackle them with strange and confidence sapping selections, tactics or both! |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Leicester City The Verdict at 15:08:59
A bit too flowery end of season report I'm afraid Nick. Lets look at the actual issues, (1) We really don't have enough quality, a big squad most at a low level of quality. We have at least 5 players who are not Premier league standard and I'm afraid this includes Lyanco! (2) Players, particularly modern players play to systems and tactics, these are dictated by the manager. You can blame a player for not trying but for not fitting into a tactical system, that's down to the boss. (3) You simply cannot keep selecting players who are not performing, whilst ignoring others who are, or playing payers out of position because, in your mind, they need to be in the team. (4) Nick I go away, yes to support my team , but I would also appreciate a decent performance and have the feeling that we might win, I don't currently and that feeling has surfaced at home too this season! (5) This is my normal gripe, why are we one of the only clubs not to have blooded any home grown youngsters in the PL this season? We have had players sat on the bench that should be nowhere near a PL side and they just block progress of the youngsters. Or is our academy sinking to mediority as well? |
