We don't have the best squad in the division and I'm surprised you think we have?
There's all probability that we have the biggest, which is I believe part of the problem. Trying to keep everyone happy has led to changes that were not necessarily tactical but for the spirit of the group. What we do have is far to many wingers, far to few central strikers, or full backs that can defend and no real leaders on the pitch. I'm pretty certain that was what Russel was alluding to, not Jack's footballing ability but his leadership. Not entirely certain that I agree with that but I do know, from being there, that Jack gives his all every time he plays, if only he could keep his concentration!

Saw him a few times as a younger man (me that is) and liked what I saw. As a manager he let us play football and we were a good watch!

Agree with most of the report Nick but our most under rated player in terms of match reports is Flynn Downes. He allows Smallbone the freedom to play by doing all of the dirty work. The reason KWP was quiet was because, like Manning, he sat in a more defensive position for most of the game. This was obviously under instruction from RM. We have very good wingers now (classing AA as a winger here) so there really is no need for the FB's to bomb on, allowing us to keep a stronger defensive position.

It's about systems, playing style & however talented you are, if you don't fit the system you're a passenger. Signing Brooks will allow AA to move into the no 10 position leaving no room for Charlie. If we sign a right sided singer what do we do with AA? He's 28 years old & has had two decent scoring seasons in Scotland, so where's he been previously? Scottish football apart from the top two wouldn't be too much of a test for Eastleigh FC? Che Adams & Adam Armstrong scoring for fun in the Championship & then struggling in the top flight shows how difficult the step up can be. If we are genuinely looking for top flight football then maybe we need to sign someone with the potential to keep us there! |

However we do need to rest players and anyone with even the slightest niggle (Bednarek) should sit it out. It makes a change to be linked with a player who is not a winger! There are also rumours that we are expecting at least two clubs bidding for Bednarek, hopefully not one we would consider!
Might well be a case of lets see who goes before getting anyone in? Lots of questions about Che Adams future and who we get to replace him, personally I think Mara is ready for a start if Che goes but is that a risk we can afford to take?
If we do feel the need to bring someone in lets try to ensure he is fit enough to play.

This was a difficult game to watch, as have our last 3 or 4 away but we have ground out a win today. We lack a strong number 9 that could help us when we move forward, we constantly look for someone in the middle and teams sit back knowing we are quite open on the break. Adams is sadly out of form and almost certainly on his way in January, however apart from Ings we seem to be linked with even more wingers?
Didn't have the best of views but it seemed to me that AA was clotheslined in the first half in a similar incident to Charles but no action was taken? Agree with Nick the referee was poor, perhaps in keeping with the game. Plus points, a win, Baz looks good, so does Aribo despite being so ungainly. I like Bree and it is possibly the fact that he does not bomb on regardless that has helped with the clean sheets. KWP despite his obvious pluses is frequently caught wrong side as is Manning. Good vibes in the away end and a bigger variation in chants than of late.

A good result and better game to watch with more of a front foot performance, Blackburn having at times a six man defence but unlike Coventry not four defensive midfielders. Downes had another good game and perhaps went off purely based on fitness after his illness. He seems to give Smallbone more freedom to push on, which improves our attacking options. Bree looks comfortable on either side of the defence as does KWP. I personally wanted to see Mara get a run out and his goal should help his confidence. And yes we do need goals but we have a lot of games in a short space of time so giving players a rest during a game helps avoid injuries due to tiredness. |

Apparently they are releasing a new safe sex video called The Saints Way - Loads of fore play but no penetration!
Seriously we have an issue with releasing the ball forward from midfield and I do agree we missed Downes, who is probably now our most consistent performer. Keep ball is fine but we need a spark, if nothing else to encourage the fans. This was the same as the Huddersfield death by football performance. We want to sing and cheer but there is little to get excited about. Just a little more forward passing please, the movement from the front line is good but unfortunately we don't seem to look more than five yards!

Very good performance from everyone and yes AA got the goals and MoM. However lets not overlook the two guys that held the midfield area and started almost every move going forward. Downes was exceptional with Charles only slightly less creative and look like the foundation for us to work with & with Manning finally putting in a performance, we are evolving very well. Keep it going please, COYR! |
