Southampton v Liverpool The Verdict
at 22:25:48

I watched a different game to Ralph and the person who has written this article. To be fair, Ralph only had 10 days to prepare for Liverpool reserves... It seems that he is in awe of Klopp just a little too much or has some strange obsession there and has managed to convince a large chunk of the saints fan base, along with his players and some in the media, that we are a poor relegation struggling team, squad and club and that he is doing an incredible job just keeping us in the league. So how does this correlate with his comment that we can do something special having achieved the results we did against City, Utd, Spurs this season..? You can't have it both ways... It feels like Ralph only cares about the results against the top 6 as if he is playing in his own fantasy champions league, talking about return matches with teams (when they might be 8 months apart). I'm not sure he has grasped English football in the last three years or so.
His team talk last night was made for him when the Liverpool line up was announced. After 20 mins, after we decided to cease with our half hearted attacking, I was envisaging how the likes of Brentford, Palace, Brighton, Villa would have taken the game to Liverpool with hunger, passion, spirit and a determination to stuff Liverpools carabao Cup qualifying squad. I am utterly and totally staggered by the level of fear Ralph transposed on to his players for a game which was our last one at home this season and with one win from the last 10 and a massively disillusioned fan base. The shackles were on our creative lads once again, some chained to the bench until the fat lady was clearing her throat. The result was a toothless, clueless performance nothing like what would have been served up by the aforementioned teams in the mid and lower echelons around us. This run of 11 games has somehow produced excuse after excuse and reasons why we can't do this and that. The good run against top teams proves that we have enough ability to take the game to other oppositions like Watford at home and we start with a lobe 20 year old striker and wonder why his form has dipped.. Ralph has slowly stifled and removed all the confidence and belief of our attackers and this has now spread to the rest of the team. They look lost and confused with no clear plan of how to attack teams or defend basic situations. The obsession of training ground tactics since February with predictable triangular passing has become dull to watch and a breeze for oppositions to exploit.
For me Ralph is a lovely guy but a man who works with too much fear and negativity, as soon as we start to play well with freedom and success he gets stage fright and bottles it. I'm not suggesting he gets a nosebleed when he stands on a peanut but the patterns have been clear when he gets touted for a top job. The players look line they have lost belief in the 'plan', the fans seem to in the main have lost belief and any last lingering belief I had in him disappeared rapidly last night. It's a real shame, nice guy but devoid of the mentality required to take a team forward in the premier league.

I think Beynali has hit the nail on the head Nick. You load your pieces with mockery for any who might decide to disagree with you, which actually encourages a more brutally honest response. Silly, knee jerk reactions, short sighted.. So you begin with mild insults, which are not that nerve touching to be fair, but warrant stern responses back at you. At the same time the hypocrisy follows as the unavoidable conclusions are laid out week by week, groundhog style of poor team selection, motivation, poor substitutions, etc, etc, etc. Ralph has been there 3 years and you apportion zero blame for him promoting failures of goalkeeper after goalkeeper into our first team group as trainers and we still had a woeful keeper in place for the majority of the season, and I know you are not a fan of Mccarthy either. You also knock Ralph's selection but don't blame him! Why has he not asked for more help with coaching, you can't tell me that coaches are that expensive compared to players do there is no excuse, even suggesting they wouldn't get into a league one set up.. Three years he has had to get the right support and balance under different owners and senior staff. Semmens has little input, he has made it ckear that Ralph is the main man and Ralph has made it very clear that he loves having the level of control here which he wouldn't get at any other club.. So if there is one team in the Prem who's manager should take the genuine brunt for failing, it is our team and our manager. And to be very blunt, the players do not respond to him anymore, whether by choice or out of confusion, so we are lost and are desperate for a fresh injection of ideas and man management. The treatment of some of the squad during lockdown showed a severe lack of understanding of mentality and motivation. Semmens does nothing, just a posh voice in a suit with a CV from another perennial bunch of failures, the England team.

But Nick, the manager controls everything in the club, it's how the set up is, that's why Ralph warmed to the challenge of revamping the entire club. He hasn't wanted less power and more help, so he is completely and individually responsible for the demise and the inability to win once against 8 teams around us in the last 3 months.
Yes we ARE relying on the results of others unless you're completely deluded and think we will beat Liverpool or Leicester away when we can't beat Watford at home..2 games to go and we could still get relegated says it all. We have not progressed and the players don't look like they know what's going on. I fail to see how anyone can continue to back Ralph after the last couple of months of terrible performances and results against average teams, given the history of two 9-0 losses. We never try to finish games off and have become the most predictable team in the 4 leagues, hence how managers of teams like Brentford can sweep us aside. Weak underbelly and weak mentality within the team and this wasn't the case all season, so the only person we as fans can point the finger at is the manager, and in our club he runs the whole show.. This is not the first time under him wd have completely lost our way. It is not the players fault in my opinion, as you have said yourself they are not behaving like they are on the beach, it is the confusion created by the boss. As Cloughie said, football is a simple game complicated by idiots and for me Ralph now falls into the latter category.
I do admire your loyalty though Nick, its second to none.

Again, our good run of form coincided with the new ownership beginning and they all wanted to impress the new owners. Since then we've been like a rudderless ship.

We're not mathematically safe with 3 games left for most of those around us. This should be a concern for all Saints fans as history will tell us, Leeds and Burnley are not down even if Leeds lose. Its not unfair to suggest that the goal difference could be a lot closer after we play Liverpool. Sure if Leeds get hammered tonight, we look safe but I'm very surprised at the complacency of so many regarding our position of 'comfort'. Didn't we once win our last 3 to scrape survival? None of them have City or Liverpool to play so all games are winnable as one offs. Everton will finish above us anyway, it's the other two we have to pray that they fail in their next game. Not a great position to be in for a team who are supposed to have made progress over the last 3 years. Anny positive moves have been quickly undermined by poor and strange management decisions which have left most scratching their heads.. Fingers crossed Chelsea do the business tonight but its sad to be relying on others to help us out. Since our decent run where we had a go at tougher teams towards the top, we've lost to the likes of Newcastle, Palace and Watford at home, Villa, Burnley and Brentford on the road, scraping draws (thanks to the skipper) at Leeds and Brighton.. This does not bode well for next season, let alone the trouble it has put us in this term! There is no excuse for such a woeful set of results and the weird team selections chosen for them. Where is the knee jerk reaction and short sightedness of these results, because for me this shows a consistency of similar failures and there is one man who virtually decides everything within our club and the structure and the buck must stop with him. The fact this article has been written speaks volumes.

Southampton At Brentford The (Damning) Verdict
at 21:03:10

If we'd have made the move after our winless start. Lampard and Howe would have been possible successors but I'm not sure who we could bring in if Forest win the play offs. So I don't see the board making any change with Ralph this summer.

I forgot to mention that our good run of form coincided with the entrance of our new owners, as soon as we felt we were away from any relegation worries, the form and results have disintegrated. Make of it what you will.

We could also be going into the Leicester game needing a draw to stay up.. I mean where are the positives in respect of Ralph the last 3 months, apart from him being a lovely bloke..? If you consistently believe he needs help then he's clearly not up to the task is he.......?

Southampton At Brentford The (Damning) Verdict
at 14:38:22

This is bordering on hilarious.. Yes Ralph does pick the team Nick, thanks for pointing that out. Perhaps you could also mention that the manager you like more than the club does NOT rate captains and leaders on the pitch.. He also decides the tactics, the shape, the substitutions. In fact you won't find a manager in the league who has MORE control over his club, its proceedings and thus the results on the pitch. As mentioned he removed Adams when he was hitting form, in fact he removes all the confidence from our attacking players, particularly the strikers and then starts games up front with a guy who has a history of not scoring and failed to even avoid being benched every week when out on loan to a Championship team last season.. Which is where, incidentally, we are heading if Ralph stays any longer. I like the man and his heart but he is bordering on the bizarre with some of his decisions and it seems obvious to me that he has lost the belief of the players who know they are playing for a stepping stone club with no ambition or hunger to win anything, mainly because the club insiders proudly tout our team and players as short term mercenaries. Now all we hear is we are doing incredibly well to stay on the league because of our budget. Well what happened to the next team breaking into the top 6, why are we suddenly unable to compete financially with the likes of Brentford and Brighton..? Its pathetic... Anyone who now thinks we should keep Ralph deserves to watch championship football. No progress, unwanted records and spineless semi final efforts. He is worse than Puel and he took us 15 points backwards! Who will you blame next week? The players again..? Why does Tella start in games away at Chelsea etc and never amongst our strongest line ups against the weaker teams..? This infuriates me enough to be a good enough reason alone to say farewell to Ralph, before he ruins another talent. The dressing room has gone, time to Ralph to do the same.

Charlie Austin Is Wrong ! Staying At Saints Is The Best Option For James Ward Prowse
at 17:17:49

Just another bitter Austin comment to show he hasn't got over being kicked out of the club. Having said that, I'm sure the interviewer loved his click baiting, msm propagandist comments as it fits perfectly with their shallow narratives.. He's obviously forgotten that Phillips didn't have to leave relegation fighting Leeds over the last two years to start most games in the Euros.. But then again the truth behind his words is that he dislikes our club and wants to see us regress. I feel sorry for him, he's clearly not very bright and is allowing negative feelings eat him up inside over an issue long in the past to most..

Southampton Announce New Date For Liverpool Game
at 16:50:11

I thought their fans were very classy last week with their support for Ronaldo. Sure I'd love us to win, but not because it will stop them from having success with the title through sour grape feelings. Not sure why anyone would revel in the failures of others unless it's the direct rivals, in our case Pompey, when it is really just a source of amusement when they lose...

Southampton At Brighton The Preview
at 09:16:11

Against Burnley, we lacked hunger and focus. We didn't play as a team in the early stages with players being guilty of not making the right decisions with the ball and too much head down running with the ball like kids in a playground. KWP has been magnificent this season but he was greedy with the ball, trying two attempts on goal from difficult positions. We simply must regain the cohesion and togetherness we have showed against the bigger clubs. To hear one of our own players say Burnley wanted it more than us just sums this up. Motivation and decision making is down to the manager and his tactics. We would have seen a lot more industry with Tella on the pitch and Redmond showed more in 5 minutes than the others did all game in terms of quality. Why Ralph started a 21 year old out of form up front on his own and provide him with no service! Nuts.. I have been one of Redmonds biggest critics but he was the only one who created anything aside from set pieces. Romeu needs to be dropped as the midfield looks stale, which is no surprise given another season of a lack of logical rotation. We should have seen more of Tella, Smallbone and Diallo but now when they are called upon, they are naturally lacking in sharpness and experience. Adam Armstrong should have been given more game time recently too and Burnley was, the ideal moment for him or Tella to give some help to Broja. I think Ralph lacks courage and belief in his own squad and this transfers to the players as it did at the end of last season and now it appears this season. Shame, we were starting to look good at the start of the year, now we've recoiled somewhat.

Irony Not Lost As Le Tissier Steps Down As Southampton FC Ambassador
at 17:13:11

I am amazed... There are some seriously unintelligent views here, given by people who clearly have no interest in spending any time investigating Matt's comments, instead refer to the same sources of information who have histories of dishonesty and manipulation. So you want people to challenge Matt on social media do you? Yet without doing your own research..? It is no wonder the world is in such a mess when it is dominated by so many brainwashed sheep who have had their minds made up by the rhetoric of those with conflicts of interest. Go on, mark me down as much as you like, it means nothing because none of you have any real idea of what is happening in the world, merely offering pathetic rants at a man far more intelligent and learned than yourselves. Have any of you stopped to think for a second about how sure he must be about his knowledge to put himself in the firing line and have to walk away from things he loves for the future of humanity. No of course you haven't. Utterly pathetic, it takes about five minutes to find interviews and articles regarding the openness of the neo-Nazi ideology of those in power in said conflict and I am highly offended by suggestions I should support a neo-Nazi regimes after the atrocities a family members of mine suffered in a camp during WW2.. It appears that the majority are too proud and desperate to signal how virtuous they are to change their views or even investigate the roots of other opinions.. I thought the Hunter laptop was all 'misinformation', a conspiracy theory... Then surprise, surprise.... Wakey wakey people, it's never too late to disengage yourselves from the grip of corrupt power and its channels of propaganda.

Southampton At Leeds United The Verdict
at 18:23:33

I thought we were easily the better team, scuppered by an awful pitch, sticky and fluffy and also by a poor referee. The foul on Broja was obvious and he would have been away. He gave Leeds silly little free kicks when they fell over but didn't give us the same. It probably was a penalty for them with Diallo but the game should have been over by them. I actually didn't think Romeu and Adams had particularly good games if nit picking, I certainly don't think Elyonoussi was that bad, in fact off the ball he was very good, the bits which aren't easy to see sometimes. The subs were indeed too late and more time for Tella would have been appreciated and caused their defence problems. But overall, the pitch was the toughest opponent so it's not a great game for making judgements on performances. We looked better than them and got something out of the game thanks to another gem from the skipper. The only other thing I feel needs mentioning is how better a balance we seem to have with Perraud on the left but the other two are virtually undroppable. Could KWP play a little further forward, winning the ball high up the pitch...?

Southampton V Manchester City The FA Cup Verdict
at 22:31:35

I think the goals record this season shows that our best two finishers this season have been Adams and Broja. I'm not suggesting that Adam Armstrong was the wrong choice, maybe not Long, but I just don't think they are anything like the best partnership available. Only 3 goals between them. I get the point Redandwight about them closing down quickly in the first half and it did help apply the pressure but we needed more potency in front of goal and that meant either or both of Broja and Adams starting. The main pressing and ball winning was made by the midfield 4. Next season is next season and I like Adam A. I just think we should have done things in a different way with the front 2.

Southampton V Manchester City The FA Cup Verdict
at 20:08:56

Some fair comments from different angles here. I thought we played exceptionally well in the first half, bossing the midfield, pressing City into errors and showing hints of being able to come through the tie with success. However, this game was different to the last round in that against West Ham, we faced a rather tired team who had youth on the bench, we took the gamble to rest our more potent strikers for the first half and although we could have gone behind by a couple, came though it with Broja coming on second half to finish them off. But.... This is Man City, possibly the best team in Europe and a manager who wasn't going to take chances against a side who he had failed to beat on two occasions this season. No Ake, no Zinchenko, no rest for De Bruyne, after all, there's a two week break. If you really want to beat a side like City, you surely must put out your strongest line up and Ralph for some bizarre reason did not. We had our most energy, strength and spirit in the first half amongst our midfielders, dominating their oppos, this was the moment to have your best strikers on the pitch but I think these things are obvious. Guardiola respected the cup and his opponents more than we did and so they deserved to go through. I agree that Long has a role and a place in our squad and our hearts but this was not the role he should have been given and it was unfair to expect him, or the confidence lacking Adam A, to put the clinical touches to our first half dominance.
Ralph got this horribly wrong and doesn't understand that once we were safe from relegation, the cup, with two wins from the final, should have been our priority because we have seen very little silverware as fans and the opportunities are scarce. The hour mark was far too late to see the best line up on the pitch and by then, we were virtually spent. Very disappointed.

Southampton At Aston Villa The Preview

I agree, just completely ignore Ings.. Focus on our own lads. A point would be a decent result and keep the run going, Villa are a strong outfit and will have a right go at us. I think we saw very clearly on weds that we have enough cover to deal with a missing Salisu, so I'm not sure why the overconcern here, or are we all going to ignore the wise words of Ralph again..?

Saints Have Four New Injury Issues Ahead of Trip To Aston Villa
at 11:52:18

Would like to see Smallbone in if Elyonoussi isn't fit to play. He's far better against the ball than the other options and showed us he has everything to his game but most importantly, the strength and aggression to combat the Villa midfield. He put two terrific crosses in for AA and AB against the Hammers too. However he may only be able to manage 60 mins so it may be a bit too soon after weds. Walcott and Redmond have also become cameo players for me because they are not usually strong enough against the ball for Ralph's system and game plan. Djenepo seems to be still more of an impact player, but tackles and harries better than Walcott and Redmond, who is still an important member of the squad because he has the ability to come up with an effort like weds or an assist, but is not a starter for me these days. Whatever we do, we have enough depth to deal with the handful of injuries we currently have, the major difference between this season and last.
