Southampton At Liverpool The Verdict
at 19:01:26

When we best Liverpool and City under Ralph, we were compact, tight and frustrated them. So he knows how best to get a result against them or minimise damage. So why try such a crazy idea and why wait 45 mins to change it. I'm staggered to see someone mention that only losing 4-0 is a good thing. I wonder how many other teams seeking a position higher than 18th would see it the same way.? There are no easy games in the Prem but I will never ever see a 4-0 loss as a positive unless it caused the removal of a disfunctional management.. Again, Ralph is too comfortable with no pressure on him, if he wanted to experiment a little and 'expected' a loss then why not give Tella a start and rest Adams, Broja or Armstrong for the next two games we could take points from.? I don't think he is the worst football manager we have had and could well succeed elsewhere but its about the glove fitting. If the players are not learning and executing the Ralph ways then surely one of those things has to change. We have had three years of Ralph signings so perhaps he is just at the wrong club and needs a big club with money to succeed with his ethos.

Itchen North.... He started with 3 centre forwards.. This isn't brave, its utterly brainless. Unless you consider brave to be running headlong into an enemy who has loads of weapons and you have a plastic fork...

Southampton At Liverpool The Verdict

Ralph is clueless.. It has been obvious the last two games that Livramento needed a rest and he plays him at Anfield and drops the more experienced KWP in a game where he starts with 3 centre forwards.... Bednarek was woeful again, allowing the ball to bounce over his head leading up to the first goal. I'm not sure what has happened to him but he's slow and cumbersome these days and giving a first start to Lyanco at Anfield when not resting a teenager who needs it and while playing three centre forwards,, I mean seriously Ralph..? I can understand trying out a tactic like that against poor sides we can beat but at Anfield! Guaranteed he will go in negatively against the poorer teams, pass the ball sideways all day and get boring draws in the hope we scrape 40 points.. I expect Failcott will be back in the side on Weds just to rub salt in to the wounds.. Pathetic Hasenhüttl, utterly pathetic and the biggest problem was seen at the end of the game when Ralph was having a laugh and a joke with Nazi Klopp.. He is obviously too comfortable, there is absolutely no pressure on Ralph and this shows. How anyone at the top of sport can perform when there is no pressure is beyond me and sums up why Ralph will never get the Vest out of the team. Crazy situation, no wonder he sees us as the perfect job. Unsackable..... Terrific....

Saints Managing Director Gives Fans January Transfer Window Expectations
at 10:36:07

He did say miminal, which isn't nothing. He can't really say much more or it would be counterproductive to business negotiations. Never show your best hand.. We know that they are looking at bringing in a new keeper at some point and if an opportunity arises in January, then that might be the signing. Any others will need to settle in and learn the Ralph way before they will be utilised, especially if young..

Southampton Injury News For The Trip To Liverpool

Sorry to add... But I also feel that Livramento should be given a break for Saturday, he looks a bit weary and it's not fair to expect a big display against Mane who is on fire again. KWP and Perraud might be the best option and a good test for Perraud on Salah.

Jack has only dropped down your pecking order me thinks... Lyanco must be pushing for a start ahead of Bednarek who doesn't look comfortable against aggressive strikers at the moment and has been at fault for a couple of pivotal goals against Wolves and Burnley at home where we dropped three points in total. Mccarthy and Bednarek need removing from the starting line up for me. The communication isnt good enough at the back and as Salisu is still the rookie it is the responsibility of his partner and keeper to show leadership and bellow. Forster and Stephens do this better.. Praying that Walcott isn't starting and Tella is unleashed as we'll be playing on the break.

Hasenhuttl Has Big Goalkeeping Decision To Make For Liverpool Game
at 12:12:19

Mccarthy did cost us both goals but not necessarily the win. KWP lost the ball when we were vulnerable and the communication between Bednarek and Salisu was non existent as Pukki got in front of Salisu who was static. They then turned to each other. So a lot could have been done to stop the first before it got to Mccarthy. There will be games when we make mistakes but the real reason wd lost was because we failed to make our dominance turn into goals. Our problem this season is taking our chances and this is not nearly highlighted as much as the errors at the back..
I do totally agree with you though Nick about Forster coming back into the team as these mistakes from Mccarthy come from this incredibly laid back demeanour which means he lacks sharpness at certain times. I'm not sure why we didn't address this problem in the summer rather than paying Walcott the wage he is on..
Also agree with other comments about Tella and the odd decision to start with 3 CDM'S at Norwich with little creativity with one not knowing his role making him lose confidence and thus his way. The subs were indeed baffling and all these odd decisions and lack of focus caused the loss. One goal after 3 mins then nothing against the worst team in the league shows the real issue and I imagine this is putting more pressure on the defence to play a faultless game because the forwards are unable to achieve this..

Southampton At Norwich City The Verdict
at 11:07:23

I don't recall one moment on Saturday when someone played a first time ball, let alone seeing two on the bounce. This singular abject method of ball use is why we look so stale. Boring possession football which puts us at more risk than the danger we give the opposition. Playing three CDM's in a game against the worst team in the league, a perfect game to rest a slightly jaded looking 18 year old and unleash a hungry pacy young attacker who has shown potency when given the chance before. Two CB's whose distribution leaves as much to be desired as the keeper.. Smallbone is a no.10 and was overlooked by two who can't play in that position. The nonsensical decisions and one trick pony tactics stops our players from developing and flourishing. Ralph holds them back, he belittles the players with the shackles and directs play too much from the sidelines. They are becoming like robots without being able to express themselves or go for the jugular when it is clearly exposed. These issues create the reasons why our first half and second half performances are as they are..
We need a manager who releases the shackles of courage and enthusiasm not hold us back, which is what Ralph is doing and bringing back Walcott on a big wage shows he has a lack of something. Scouts have done well with the youngsters but as for Ralph wanting Theo... Its a joke. Still can't believe he took Adams off after an hour.

Southampton At Norwich City The Verdict
at 00:02:11

Ralph out.. Clueless, strange, imbalanced line up, square pegs in round holes yet we supposedly have a squad of depth now.. No balance on the left, why did we buy Perraud? KWP can only turn back on his right because he can't dribble with his left. What position was Diallo playing? Poor guy being asked to play in a role he never had before and Tella sits on the bench waiting for the next game at Stamford Bridge.....
What sort of substitutions were those!? Taking off the focal point of the attack and the goalscorer and putting on a clown who is scared of upsetting his woke haircut.. Failcott... Waste of a squad number, its no surprise he is the brunt..
Yes Mccarthy was at fault, someone needs to put a rocket up his rear end, same with Forster, they stroll around like its a fashion show and don't cover their near posts properly, basically because they are laid back dreamers.. Look at the energy of Ramsdsle..
Pathetic Ralph, utterly pathetic.
You can crap on about 8th place etc but it's irrelevant, it's the points that matter and the teams we have now to play after a woeful collapse yet again, we now have a tough run of games which we will repeat the same mistakes game after game. The three one nil wins have merely papered over the cracks and our team still doesn't know how to attack oppositions or understand what seizing the moment means.
I think you need to think again Nick about your obsession with excusing these same deja vus time after time.. Time for a change and a manager who doesn't bottle it and display a lack of belief in his own players through ridiculous over caution and negative mindsets and someone who doesn't fall to his knees crying if we beat a decent team.
Sick of this groundhog sh**

Southampton At Norwich City The Preview

I agree it wouldn't be a bad idea to give Livramento another week off, he was starting to look a bit weary against Villa and maybe should have been withdrawn. Expecting to see Adams and Armstrong starting upfront but not sure that Stuey Armstrong will start after hearing Ralph's press conference where he alluded to the level of competition for those places. I expect to see Redmond and Elyonoussi behind them, don't want to make too many changes but Redmond is ex Norwich so will feel confident of finally getting on the score sheet tomorrow. I just hope if he starts with Walcott, that he actually performs, because he hasn't so far this season and it blocks the pathway forward for Tella, who should be getting more game time after coming in and bringing a threat which no other players bring.
Another must win for me, then it's fair to say we've had a good start to the season with the pressure off somewhat for the December run. Another draw or loss and we'll be looking at 3 scraped one nil wins against poor sides and so an average start. Would be nice to see a few goals this time if we win and if so, I think it's fair to say that Ralph has turned things around for a third time and deserves credit for doing so. This doesn't make previous calls for a change a knee jerk reaction or short sighted, a change would have been fair given the glaring stats, however a win tomorrow and he deserves the full backing of all Saints fans for the foreseeable future.

Ralph Hasenhuttl On Aston Villa And Norwich Radar But Why Would He Go To Either !
at 15:16:02

Nick, we already knew your opinion on Jack a long time ago and yet persist with the same thing even weeks after he's been out of the side. This article is merely coming across at a dig at those who feel or felt Ralph's time is up. I was one of those and still unsure but I am happy to change my opinion and admit I was wrong if certain repeated past errors disappear from his management. Either way, it isn't balanced to accuse others of knee jerk reactions or short sightedness just because you don't agree. Neither McMenemy nor Nicholl went on a run of 4 wins in 28 to my memory and Lawries nightmare was at the start.. We are now three years in with Ralph and we have been going backwards or dropping this calendar year until the last month, certainly in performances and results. I also appreciate that Ralph has had little to work with at times but has also played players out of form while others sat on the bench champing at the bit.
I think, as I imagine most Saints fans do, that Ralph is a lovely guy, great soul and easy to warm to, however after the run he had I believe it was very fair for fans to want to see a change and my issue is your suggestion of blindness within these opinions, which is insulting and inflammatory. Hence you get full barrels back at you.. If you had stated that you didn't agree, and outlined your reasons why then fine, but you resort to calling people trolls, short sighted, etc etc. This helps no level headed debate, but fuels anger and resentment. So I am not one of those calling for Ralph's head as things are after some recent improvements in results but also feel the need to point out the dialogue you use in describing the thoughts of those you disagree with is not reflective of the truth, facts or stats and creates more disharmony.. Opinions are one thing, start suggesting a lack of sense in others and you'll get it back twofold.. And yes, your public commentary on Stephens has come across as somewhat obsessive, but there we are.. Just how it looks to me. All the best Nick.

Ralph Hasenhuttl On Aston Villa And Norwich Radar But Why Would He Go To Either !
at 13:42:45

Yawn yawn yawn. Another pile of rubbish in the 'media' giving Nick an opportunity to attack fans who don't agree with him. Typically spineless to accuse people of abuse and being trolls after a run of 4 wins in 28 has deeply concerned many, probably the majority from all of the people I talk about Ralph. Again, you are unable to back up your phrase of a knee jerk reaction with facts.. If you really believe that 4 wins in 28 constitutes a knee jerk reaction then again, show me a club who would have stuck with a dropping team with a manager who had been there for 3 years.. Utterly pathetic. As is the assumption that we have turned a corner when all we have done is scraped three 1-0 wins against very poor teams and we still nearly managed to mess them up.
If all this is a knee jerk reaction then how about your constant attacks on Jack Stephens which has recently been poorly veiled and now in my opinion constitutes as abuse because of the volume and frequency of the articles you write about him..
Quite simply, because that's how you need to hear it, you are seriously lacking in intelligence, balance and the ability to give accurate detail (like naming people correctly) to consider this site as journalism or even a fanzine. You can't even be bothered to use a spell check. This is merely your own output to try to influence the opinion of others with lame content and little to back up your claims and accusations..
You are hypocritical and come across as a pretty sad individual, attacking Stephens all the time and accusing others of abuse, short sightedness and knee jerk reactions.
In my opinion, there should be another person and another site linked to the fans forum sites, you have just become a joke hiding behind the tiny bit of power you have. I'm sure we will beat Norwich as they are terrible and I doubt Ralph will make a decision on his future based on comments on sites like this... Seriously?
Jack Stephens rocks, you don't...

Can Jack Stephens Be The Come Back Kid Again for Southampton
at 12:53:11

I agree GasGiant (unsurprisingly). We must be into double figures now for these not so subtle articles written purely to reinforce a biased and unbalanced opinion on Jack Stephens.
Indeed, had it have been Jack who was too easily rolled by Jimenez for the home loss to Wolves, and the same applies with the equaliser at home to Burnley, when the same centre back was too easily rolled by Cornet, then the knives would have been out and we would have been bombarded by articles from you saying how you have been proven right all along, etc, etc. But because it was Bednarek who made these errors, they were not even detailed in your match verdict.. So in fact, Jack has been more solid overall this season than Jan and with a better distribution, particularly with balls over the top, the evidence would suggest that Jack is the better suited to partner Salisu, who has also been rather iffy at times with his passing and this has also escaped your attention or reporting. His aggression, anticipation and potential though means he is worthy of his spot. Lyanco also looks good but has also made errors which again, if made by Stephens, may have been highlighted on this site..
I rest my case for the defence..

Southampton V Aston Villa The Verdict
at 12:02:45

I agree with the pub concensus that we got away with one yesterday. We played well in the first half but could have shown a little more intensity after the goal as Villa were at sixes and sevens, seize the moment! At half time I was concerned we had only scored the one and that the ref was doing his best to help Villa. How El Ghazi avoided a further yellow, twice, is anyone's guess.
In the second half we stopped attacking, displaying fear and little intention of killing off the game with a second goal. This was the tactics, it wasn't Livramento who chose not to attack and as with so many games and as mentioned by the pundits, this habit of handing the initiative to the opposition in the second half must be addressed or we will lose our leads and points again like the past couple of seasons..
Delighted with the win, obviously, but it was nerve wracking to watch rather than a joy in the second half. We are better than that and I don't understand why we have to try to outpass the oppo in tight spaces for an hour, or this obsession with doing this in our own half, making riskier passes backwards than those forwards. Fortunately Villa were very poor and lacked confidence and we did defend well. I agree that this was not Salisu's best game with the ball but did his job in the box. At least Ralph made changes before it was too late so there is progress in some areas. Terrific strike for the goal, a worldie, can see Armstrong being a hit.

Southampton V Aston Villa The Preview
at 10:58:23

We must win tonight and indeed the next game at Norwich. If we go into the tough end Nov/December with 11-15 ponts on the board, we might struggle to garner 20 at the midpoint. Win the next two and 17 points takes the pressure away somewhat and will enable us to approach the tough run in a different way psychologically. Agree Armstrong needs to come back in as he has had more of an end product previously than the others but at the same time I don't think Elyonoussi deserves to miss out and Redmond is finally putting in a shift like the others and looking more like the player he should be, he probably doesn't deserve to miss out either. Whoever plays the 10 role needs to contribute with goals at some point or be dropped for someone who can.. Surely Redmond will break his duck tonight against a weakened and wayward Villa..

Southampton At Watford The Verdict
at 10:59:24

This win makes our start OK, I would not call it solid. We have scraped two one nil wins against two very poor teams and as mentioned, we won't get this many chances to score in every game. It is progress though and we need to pick up wins against Villa and Norwich because after that we have a very tough run of games. We must be more clinical in front of goal or we will again put too much pressure on the defence. I do think Adam Armstrong will come good, everything looks right, just needs a bit of luck. Mccarthy also deserves credit for a superb save at the end, not just a good save. The players are also now fighting for their places, except for one or two, and this bodes well for the season with greater strength in depth available, no excuses then..!

Although one of Redmonds biggest critics, I seem to recall him finding the net against Watford in the past so I wouldn't be surprised if he scores tomorrow. These things have a habit of repetition in sport so I would not be unhappy to see him starting tomorrow.
After his goal Tuesday it also makes sense for Che to be back in.
I wouldn't mind seeing Romeu sweep up allowing Diallo to stay in the team alongside JWP in the centre and then the wingbacks can really attack.
Under Ranieri, Watford might be more adventurous, less cautious and thus more of an open game. We need to win this one really...

Southampton At Chelsea The Carabao Cup Verdict

Great effort but felt like we weakened the team with the subs soon after pulling level and looking like we were in the ascendancy.. Why Walcott? Apart from helping the youngsters, I can't understand this signing.. And at his wage, a waste of money. Why can all fans see this but not Ralph. Tella seems to have gone backwards after saying how much Walcott has helped him. Not sure what is going on there. Apart from that the new signings over the last two summers have been fantastic. Lyanco in for Saturday! For me after allowing another striker to turn him easily against Burnley, Bednarek needs to be dropped to the bench. There are at least more positive signs than two weeks ago..

Southampton V Burnley The Preview
at 11:01:41

It's so funny how desperate you are to see Djenepo and Elyonoussi out of the starting line up.. You fail to recognise that Redmond has failed to deliver from a wide position, far better in a central or floating role, so what would be the point in sticking him out wide where he is stifled? I thought you liked him..
Djenepo hasn't delivered... Except for the superb penetrative pass which set us up for the solitary goal against Leeds. Elyonoussi has something different, had caused problems and found the back of the net.
I don't see any point in changing the line up for Burnley after finally winning a league game last week. Redmond needs to stay central if we want to see the best from him. Djenepo works well with Perraud and Elyonoussi is showing far more than you give him credit for. If some players are given time by you after several poor showings then why not others when they have done ok?
