Fun parts.

Their manager demonstrating lack of bounce in the centre circle and our squeegee chap running over and squeegeeing then repeating the bounce test successfully.

The Southend staff member throwing water ONTO the pitch near the half way line.

Groundstaff genuinely not bothered about rolling the beep out of areas with knowledge that tomorrow is rip up day.

Cannot thank those chaps enough for demonstrating Team Rochdale spirit.

Agree, but in that game, despite Dev scoring, they were all over us like a rash when game commenced.

The subs that day are etched in Clanger history.

100% right decision to abandon.

100% not what we wanted for obvious reasons.

100% gratitude to ref for giving groundstaff the opportunity to try to sop it.

0.01% chance of that being possible with the whole pitch and continuing rain.

100,000,000% Thanks to the groundstaff, coaches, pub landlord and all involved in the failed, but admirable effort to get game resumed.

Onto the game.

Guess what, first 15 minutes Southend played the high press, swarmed all over our backline and pressured for mistakes. Sound familiar? Why yes, we saw this in the playoffs last season. Our 15 minutes of pass the parcel along the backline only resulted in being 1 down.

After that we remembered we could play more than one style and looked ok up until HT, with a few half chances.

Second half was far better with Taryn being the catalyst. We were constantly on the front foot and pressured on them to make mistakes told.

Both goals were aided by the pitch to be absolutely fair. Their keeper got his flippers wedged under the paddling pool edge and then Jeremy Guscott tried a short pass in the deep end that went about 6 inches.

When it gets replayed i hope we remember the first 15 and learn from it.

Oh well, still top with FG only drawing.

Safe trip home Southend fans.

Keeper did excellently. Great save first half and as he said when interviewed, damn good with his feet.

First half i thought was under par, we hardly created anything of real note despite our possession yet they had the above chance and another whistle just wide.

Goal changed the game and a good degree of luck with it, total air-kick from their CH who had been great up until that point. We contolled it from that point and second goal sealed it. A bit like at Tamworth however we very nearly conceded straight away after the second goal.

Barlow was a thorn in them but will lastly praise the back 3 who snuffed out pretty much anything they had up top.

Old saying. Goals win games, defence wins promotion.

Left sided defender signed on 2 month loan from Barnet.

Halifax player last 2 seasons, playing 30+ games each season before joining Barnet on a free.

Myles man of the match for me, some brake keeping and good saves, especially the 1v1 save.

600+ there for a freebie night, appreciate many don’t value this competition but the club and BJ do.

90 mins competitive football for a number of players not in the first 11. 45 mins for Pritchard back from injury. Debut for Hosannah (welcome, go mark this man mountain Everton have just brought on). All good stuff

Top of this division is mental.

5 teams have more than 2 points per game.

Arsenal and Coventry are the only other two teams in that position.

Tamworth brought Tonks on in the 75th minute chasing the game for one reason. Long thow ins
Tamworth brought on Lynch up front in the 83rd minute for same reason.
Tamworth launched every free kick direct.

I can see and 100% agree why BJ brought Amanchi on rather than Hendo at 2-1.

It’s nonsensical re: pen.

Contact was outside the box, therefore should be a foul not a pen but given because his feet were in the box (on the line is in the box)

If flipped the other way and Robertson’s feet was physically outside of the box, but his knee was inside the box to bring down the striker, then by the same rules it would be a free-kick not a pen which again, would be wrong and in reality, would not have happened.

Refwatch - Rochdale v Aldershot Town
at 18:33 15 Nov 2025

Aldershot made us look poor first half.

Their high press and close man marking across the pitch made our passing game struggle and at half time, for me, they were the better of the two teams.

Our right/their left was the game of chess bit, Tobi given loads of space, on the flip their 11 stayed forwards and caused us worry time and again.

Second half i thought we came out much better and were building up pressure up to and including scoring the goal.

After that Aldershot doubled down on their attacking and subs aplenty for us. Berger at LWB? Interesting 10 minutes. Moss and Petit on to restore defensive back line (Tobi switching sides) - worked very well. Petit in particular looked good when on.

I don’t know what people are expecting from Amanchi when he comes on for the final 10. He harries, chases, tries to hold up etc and does a job. Ok, he had a chance to score but a last ditch tackle did him.

Special mentions for EELs (back to his best) Whatmuff (brave lad he is) and Happy Gilmour, great to see him score.

Tough won 3 points against a team that had scored as many goals as we have (before kick off)

Last note: Aldershot are 7 defeats on the bounce. All by a single goal. That’s tough.

Brook really frustrates me.

He is unbelievably talented but bats without brain sometimes.

His one warm up match before he plays in the Ashes and what does he do? Bats like its a T20 game, dancing down the wicket, playing scoops and out for 2, spending the rest of the day on a balcony.

Dare i say it, his ego is both his strength and his achilles heel.

Aus strong favourites but i reckon it will be close this time round

Nothing to change my pre-season opinion that any team finishing above York will win the league.

Offensively they are a real threat and defensively after HT we were poor.

Oh well, only have to play them one more time, good old bounce back required on Sat (if on)

Would take a point now.

3 games on trot they have beaten us and in most recent game looked the best team to play us this season to date.

Psychologically getting a result would be great ahead of game 46.

Worth contacting Lancashire CC to see if we could loan a super-sopper for the winter?

seeing a pic of a poor groundsman pushing a hand sopper a few weeks ago (Carlisle) wondered if such a thing could help (without causing further damage)

Light rain forecast for next 11 days (BBC) and ganes in 7-10 days.
