What Has Ronald Koeman Learn't From Wanyama's Substitution On Saturday ?
at 10:39:21

I'm only seeing games on TV at the moment, but despite improving Victor is not going to unlock defences with pin point passes, and his lack of technique can slow down the attack. As to earlier comments Classie was brought in to move the ball forward quickly, and he has begun to do this. The problem is he can't win it back, being the most light weight player I've seen in a long time.

The balance in the midfield is not right at present, we need to get the combinations right, and we haven't replaced Morgan or Nathaniel.

Romeo might be part of the answer, but that middle 3 certainly seems where we lack versus last year.

Is This The End At St Mary's For Gaston Ramirez
at 11:41:50

I agree with the guy's above. We are a different team now, with the pace of Mane and Jay-Rod, so plenty of options to pass to. Since Lallana left we've lost the ability to break down stubborn defensive teams and Gaston has that ability to see a run or change the shape of an attack. The challenge for Koeman is to make it work. Tadic is a traditional winger at the moment and Davis is getting on. I'd try Gaston until January.

Saints At FC Midtjylland The Verdict
at 13:41:46

This was a crushing defeat for all of us, and seeing the group Mitjylland got, even more so. We are just not as good as we were last year. The pressing has gone, the creativity is gone and we can't score goals. That was fine when we had the best defence in the league but not now. Scoring goals was a problem last year against more respectful opponents but at least we were in little danger of losing.
Mitjylland scored 2 from 4 shots on target in the two games. There is the difference.

Positives: from my view in stand Pelle won everything, but it was laid off to no one. Jay-Rod is getting better, and he and Pelle are starting to work it out. Target was better and showed more attacking threat. He was miles away from us in the second half, but Tadic looked fresh and beat his man. Finally Caulker looks decent and should start ahead of Yoshi.

It'll be a long season.

Why Isn't Thursday Night Sold Out ?
at 11:39:44

I've bought tickets but can't make the game. Like an earlier post I have to take time off work to make mid week games. Still having the ticket will hopefully secure my qualification for later rounds if we get there.
August is always difficult to fill stadiums due to vacation and for many back to school costs. It's a shame because I too share the dream of 40k watching every week, even at £10 a ticket. Stadium expansion will have to wait it seems.

Brentford Encourage Their Fans To Come To Southampton On Thursday Night
at 20:27:24

It's a massive journey for Mitjylland, so if this fills their end and creates an atmosphere then great. I've seen they have sold a few coaches and looked into using their travel myself to come over from Copenhagen. Unfortunately it's coaches and ferries, a two day trip. With nothing from CPH, where you'd think they might have a supporter group.
Still I've tickets to the away leg so no worries. I hope we take advantage of the club "size" and do a proper job.

Saints Need Injection Of Pace At Back
at 11:08:57

With only one of the back 5 from last season, and Snierderlien missing too, we were always going to struggle defensively. The comments about the "reserve" team status of the players is true. With 2 England internationals to come back later and a new CB we can achieve previous heights.
The Europa League has hidden the fact that our reserves aren't good enough for the PL. that said it has highlighted that lots of the good stuff is there if we can get on top.
Too early for panic, let's see if we can't get 3 wins in a row now.

FC Midtjylland Away Ticket Qualification Details Announced.
at 19:11:45

I can't say that I would want to deny fans who follow saints away so often a ticket to such a rare occasion as Europe. However I do feel that the club could have been a little more honest upfront. I'm a previous season ticket holder who moved abroad with work so membership is the only way I can sign up. This years £25 fee gave me the impression that I'd get a chance at tickets home and away in Europe. However I have no more benefit that last year when being on the database was free.
Here's to taking my chances in the away section each round.... After all they are closer than St Mary's

Vitesse Risk Crowd Problems After Small Ticket Allocation
at 20:49:04

Yes, we could sell more tickets but then could the ground segregate effectively? If not they've one liable for any problems. Which to be fair there shouldn't be. This is a decent club in a nice town and the Durch are great. Most this isn't the 1990's or anywhere near the 1970's. A

Saints V Sunderland The Verdict
at 12:09:04

We've made the absolute most of a kind fixture list, and the core of the team has continued where they left off last season. Fantastic to see that the new players are hitting their stride so early. I hope that the return of Jay-Rod will offset playing the decent teams and the winter fixture Rush. I don't think we can step up our performances much more, so it will be interesting to see the season develop. A great time to be a saints fan, but I'm not getting carried away. Let's hope the Leciester game is played with the same confidence as its the first time I'm back from Denmark this season. COYRs

Would The Sale Of Chambers Be A Step Too Far !
at 10:05:29

Football is the only industry where the employee can't resign and work for somebody else. We all do it in our everyday lives. The reality of the modern Premierleague is that we can't pay the wages, and can't offer champions league football. One or either of those is enough to tempt any player. There is no loyalty or romance anymore.
We all know that youth players go to Arsenal to sit in the reserves until they have learnt Wengers system (Walcott/Chamberlin) but it is still more attractive than playing 30 games for saints. Big Clubs, Big Money. This is how we took players from Italy and from Celtic last year. Money, why else would you walk away from champions league nights against Juventus at Celtic Park? Money, why else leave your boyhood club at Burnley to get to the Premierleague a season early?

Saints Make It Four Out Of Four At Bournemouth
at 09:50:51

Nothing to be depressed about in the results or performances so far. Conclusion: Our kids are better than your kids.... We knew that anyway...
Lots of opportunities for Koeman to prove how good he is, based on the fact that Adkins could only just keep us out of the bottom 4 with a team without Chambers, Lovren, Shaw. Defensive quality was always our problem before we signed Boruc et al.
Great to hear Gaston looked good, as he could be the key next season. I don't believe Lallana was any better at that age.
At least we are in stripes too!

Saints At Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict
at 20:48:45

Aside from an individual error it was an excellent first half, particularly as an away performance. What worries me, is not the quality of the players, but a lack of tactical response. Time and time again we dominate first halves, but fail to respond to changes by the opposition at the change over. Chelsea was the most obvious example of this, but away at Palace, Spurs and others we have seen the iniative surrendered. Especially if we are leading.
We need a plan B, something that changes our shape or tempo. Changing one set of legs for another simply won't do.

Saints At Fulham The Verdict
at 13:07:31

We missed Wanyama and Cork took a few games to get upto speed. Since then he has been outstanding. However the level of exertion that he must expend means both he and Sniederlien should be rested against weaker teams. Like many on hear if have done it the other way around, and brought Wanyama off the bench, but Poch didn't and had a clear demonstration of where Wanyama is in his recovery. Plus we won the game.

Cortese Has Gone
at 21:16:57

If the family don't sell the club, why should things change in the short term? Appoint the new CEO and off we go. Financially we don't need to sell, unless this was the reason Cortese resigned, but that wouldn't be over Lambert, it would be over the Ypunger players he has assembled with his team. This could be a small bump in the road.... We had a good academy before Cortese arrived.

Saints V Liverpool The Verdict
at 10:41:05

I thought he brought Guly on for addition height at the end. Puncheon would have added great pace, but Liverpool are good from set pieces and we need to ensure we had a presence in the box. I agree Liverpool stopped Ramierez, but all our first half chances involved him in some way. They just picked him up better once they replaced Joe Allen.
