The 3 sides of a match thread at Oxford

We were the only ones threatening in the first half when it looked like it would be good enough to get ahead and win. Of course I hoped and expected we could get three points with how limited the opposition were.

But we lost our way second half in crap conditions against a team fighting for their lives with a (very average admittedly) new manager - two teams on the pitch.

And still could've easily nicked it.

The first team we put out is all we have left. They're the ones who were fighting til the 120th minute at West Ham and were digging in for another away point a few days ago under the cosh at Stoke.

WHICH we also almost nicked in the last minute with Esquerdinha crossing for Adamson (I mean ffs does that not tell you everything?)

We're not meekly submitting to another 6 game losing streak, and we're only 3 points off the playoffs.

On Bennie, that's his second ever start at this level and it showed but he applied himself pretty well, brought some energy and showed some nice touches - again a couple of inches away from getting the winner.

That's football.

Poor game, obviously.

But people really expect that much more from the last two matches with the players we can put on the pitch? Apparently so.

Reasons why availability is so scratchy is a different debate clearly but we're without our top scorer, our most creative player, two expensive new wingers.

Not exactly surprising we're struggling to put the ball in the back of the net - even though we could've nicked that.

5pts from last 9. Keep ploughing on and doing as best we can until we can bring in reinforcements/unleash the dogs of war...

As skills go, being able to find the back of the net is far better than being able to burst past people then having no clue what to do next.

Keeping Burrell on the pitch v Leicester when we were 4-0 up at HT utter madness.

Might not have come across to those watching on stream but if there's a more bizarre game of football played anywhere in the country, in a more uncanny deathly silent atmosphere this weekend I'd be stunned.

We started well and got the goal to settle nerves, then it was a case of the crowd waiting for us to roll in a few more to give us a nerve-free afternoon which didn't happen.

Wednesday fans subdued perhaps surprisingly, if understandably - given they're having to get behind the absolute bones of a football team.

Constant injuries slowing the game down as we cruised through the middle third of the match with little to no urgency, unable to string more than a few passes together.

Honestly felt like a repeat of the film we've seen so many times before was brewing when Wednesday came out after half-time with a bit more purpose and belief grew in their team & fans.

Frustration and anxiety was really starting to grow when Kolli smashed in that thunderbolt out of nothing. And the second finish was excellent too.

Of course Wednesday offered very little but large swathes of that game were far from convincing.

Combination of 12pm kick-off and the non-opposition were maybe always gonna make it hard for players and fans to get up for but still.

3 points the main thing.

Yes but although the result was disappointing if you look at the three game week as a whole...oh wait no, it's even worse.

We're controlling it in open play but only managed to create half-chances so far. Hayden with some good contributions. Kone & Burrell linking up nicely.

They don't look like your typical 23rd place side. Not much intensity on show so far.

We're so, so far from the exciting team we've been seeing at home the past few months.

How Paul Smyth doesn't get on the pitch tonight I have no idea, these away games are made for him.

Left Burrell on for 90min v Leicester when the game was won but not bringing him on here. Doubtless won't see him at West Ham either.

Perhaps the plan was to make it a 45min game, bring on RND, Burrell & Smyth.

Saito ineffectual away from home as usual (never a free kick for our goal) and Esquerdinha an accident waiting to happen sadly, as well as surprisingly slow when he had to bust a gut to get back.

There for the taking.

Players repeating this 'good week' mantra.

Can't help but think that plays on their mind at least a bit if they've already got 6/6 from first two games...

Insanity not to make any changes at HT. And one of the players who'd have been hooked gives away a pen with a nonsense tackle straight away...

Asked Grok to analyse the content of QPR's tweet about the second goal.

Fan replies express intense frustration over QPR's defensive lapses, particularly blaming forward Paul Smyth's erratic decision-making on a failed attack that sparked the counter-attack goal, alongside criticism of right-back Reggie Newton-Dunbar's positioning.
