Why Isn't Thursday Night Sold Out ?
at 06:56:41

This article and comments thread is embarrassing. "Of course some have genuine excuses" - sorry, who are these people excusing themselves to exactly? It's this mentality and the heroes who bang on about plastics who have let ticket prices run out of control. Mindlessly going to every game regardless, so they can pat each other on the back and scream "Southampton till I die" with veins popping in their necks and, away from the stadium, questioning the validity of online forum usernames if people don't meet their expectations of fandom.
However, there are varying levels of commitment that fans want to put in. There are also plenty of others who prioritise other things like family, friends, work and financial security. When we do sell out both of these fans will be there. That's just the way it is, and will be for a while. Converting these fans in to STH's takes longer than a few seasons in the Prem, so yes the board are absolutely right not to increase the stadium capacity for a while. We're not as big as the egos of the die-hards yet.
Also, you can't simply single out the cost for this one game, when many will have forked out £40+ on Saturday too. The Vittesse game was an earlier round, but against a better known side and more importantly the return of European football for us.
Focus on the positives. If we get a Thursday night European gate of 25000 (televised) against a side most of us don't even know how to pronounce, that's a pretty good step forward for me.
But then what do I know, I'm only a plastic...

Mayuka Is Gone For A Month ! But Will he Be Missed ?
at 13:01:50

It is baffling isn't it. Presumably they'll be monitoring his performance at the ACON and let's hope he gets a run of starts.

If we'd had 1 or 2 longer term injuries/suspensions the striker situation might not seem so strange. At least we've got some cover I guess.

The End Of The Beginning - Time To Get Things Right
at 08:46:49

Singapore Saint - a hypothetical question for you; do you think you'd have posting the same blog/article if we'd have taken a point from City and beaten United?

Were NA and NC entirely to blame for us not picking up points in these games or did last seasons joint top pointscorers in the Prem also play some part in the outcomes?

Seriously, although you raise some very obvious points (that everyone else is making), this does read as though you think the club are doing everything wrong. We deserve to be in the Premier League this season because we were promoted from the Championship last season, and for that reason only. I'm proud of our history, but to think we're more deserving of a place here than Newcastle, Stoke and Sunderland is ridiculous, and you're criticising the club for being unrealistic with their expectation!? Those clubs have been strengthening and maintaining their top flight place whilst we've been down to league one and back.

On your point about transfers, players with Prem experience are generally going to be asking for wages that their skills do not justify in comparison with our existing squad. Instead we've signed Ramirez - one of Europe's hottest young talents at only 21, the African Cup of Nations winner and golden boot holder Mayuka (also 21) and Yoshida, a regular Japan international. And this reminds you of Rupert Lowe bringing Clive Woodward in?

You and I have no idea which players were targetted and who we tried to sign but couldn't. Deals through fall late in the window, and NC is experienced enough not go out and panic buy at the last minute. It's all very well sitting back criticising and saying we should have signed this or that, but I have faith that NA and NC are aware of what we need and will be looking to strengthen where necessary in January.

With regards to the Arsenal result - we played a Champions League team who were bang on form. We scored two unfortunate own goals and had a CB playing most of the game after a days training with the squad. We're new to the Prem this time round and results like this happen. QPR lost 5-0 to Swansea at home, Norwich lost 5-0 at Fulham. Those results would worry more a lot more if we'd been on the end of them.

Should Lallana Be Held Back ?

I'm sure Nigel will make a better decision than most managers in this situation with his background as a physio. Don't sweat it.

Saints At Leeds The Verdict
at 20:38:46

Bad performance but we came up against a side who put in one of their best performances of the season. Same as when Leicester came to SMS. Fortunately we had luck and Kelvin on our side this time. I know the Reading game is already scheduled for it, but please no more SKY coverage this season!

Great Pompey Myths Debunked. No 2 Pompey Are The Club With All The History
at 07:54:30

Pupstyle, I don't want you to go out of business, but when we were in the same situation we sold all our best players and high wage earners. Pompey haven't done that despite admin a couple of seasons ago. That is a bigger factor in your current situation than anything the FA have or haven't done, and it's it time the club and it's fans wake up to this. You've lived the dream, now pay the price, drop down a division and rebuild. Good luck with it.

Saints Have To Beat A Top Side Away

There are also only three teams who've lost less times away from home. 4 to our 5. Hardly appalling.

Saints Have To Beat A Top Side Away
at 07:40:52

We're top of the league, do we really expect every statistic to be excellent, or can we afford a poor record in some areas? Current table suggests the former. Yes, improving our away form will see us promoted if we maintain our home record, but the clubs who have performed better away have been performing worse at home. It doesnt sit comfortably calling this side "appalling" in any aspect. Over half of the league have picked up less points away than we have. We've lost less away than Leeds have at home. Our goal difference is also likely to be top or top two, so there's an extra 0.5 points (effectively). Your point is there to see Nick, but I think this team deserve us to point out the positives rather than exaggerating the negatives.

Great Pompey Myths Debunked. No 2 Pompey Are The Club With All The History
at 19:08:17

This article is unnecessarily insecure and frankly quite embarrassing. The tongue in cheek attempt is lost on me. Who gives a flying #### what happened over a century ago when trying to argue over who the bigger club is? Just take a look at the league table, the attendance, the number of years in the EPL, the players, the stadium, the facilities, the youth team successes.

Whatever Happened To - Lee Barnard
at 12:27:42

He signed a new contract a month ago, I don't think we need to read too much in to this. He's been injured and won't be played/risked until fully fit.

The club don't respond to rumours because once they start doing so, they'd have to employ a team of full time employee's sending out denials to every media outlet under the sun.

If there are rumours about genuine movements within our club I get the impression NC is very likely to pull the plug on the deals, and I think anyone who deals with us is well aware of this, so pay very little attention to gossip!

The Season Ended Too Soon !
at 13:25:18

Daft article this. Just be happy with 2nd place and the quality of our goal difference as noted by Spot51.

Brighton had no motivation over the last 3 games whereas we desperately needed the points. If we'd have had the same mentality all season we would have won the title, but it's as relevant as debating how much we'd have won the league by if we'd signed Messi last summer.

The ShirleyMush View - Supporters Who Love Too Much

Excellent article - good work!!

I felt exactly the same after the game on Saturday. On another day we could have hammered them with a similar performance. Barnard could have hit four.
