Wasn’t intending to add to my post but I can assure you it is quite possible for people to hold several ideas in their heads, and to retain certain facts, without having to resort to AI.
I would be far more interested in any major disagreements you may have with what I was saying.
My main point though was to highlight the fact that so many people are saying ‘the scientists can’t decide’, or ‘there is disagreement among scientists’ - when in fact there is little or no disagreement – that it seems their main aim is sow confusion. There are loads of areas where this is currently happening in politics and mainstream media.
In deference to Clive's comment I will not be adding to this thread. |

I would say that much of the history and evolution of the universe is established as scientific fact, from less than a nanosecond after its creation to the present day.
Science has theorised that the universe condensed out of a hot dense mass of particles formed in what is now called the big bang. This assumption enabled Ralph Alpher and George Gamow, as long ago 1948, to theoretically predict the relative amounts of hydrogen, helium and lithium that should have formed as this mass of particles cooled and expanded. Their results agree incredibly well with experimental measurements of the actual amounts of these elements in the universe – providing convincing evidence that the big bang actually happened.
Even amateur astronomers can now make measurements showing that distant galaxies are flying apart from each other at vast speed – the rate of expansion determined by the so-called Hubble constant. If you rewind this expansion you come up with the fact that all the matter in the universe must have started off in the same place about 14 billion years ago – more evidence for the big bang, and giving a specific time for the origin of the universe.
Sure we don't currently know much about how dark energy and matter formed but that does not mean the current 'origins' theories are incorrect - they just need adding to.
We also don’t currently know what caused the big bang although there are many competing hypotheses. But nearly all of these hypotheses will propose ways in which they can be experimentally tested and we will ultimately see which one is correct. |

Lady on the park & ride bus the other day, obviously suffering from severe alopecia, had some very artful & colourful floral designs tattooed on her head. I can see exactly why she did it - to compensate for, and to draw attention away from, her hair loss. I could only feel sympathy in her case.
Regarding an earlier post, I would think very hard about getting the motorbike if you’ve not ridden for several years. Even the simple spills which you laughed off as a youngster and which left you with a few bruises can cause major medical complications as you age due to more brittle bones and thinner skin. In the countryside around where I live there barely seems to be a weekend goes by without an older rider getting killed. Much as I like bikes, and often as I am tempted to go in for a classic silver Honda CB250 SuperDream like I had in the 1980s when I see one come up for sale, I know I won’t do it because you just can’t fight the accident statistics. |

This bit of the UEFA statement speaks perfectly for the ‘little guy’. In fact you could replace the footballing bits with the name of any typical privatised company (or company purchased by hostile takeover) and it would be equally as valid. |

Well done Rangers.
I was very impressed by Pierce Charles who seems to have the confidence and ability to quickly pick players out with long passes. Hopefully this might mean we see a lot less of the endless faffing around in the box between the keeper and the back four - which so often leads to disastrous mistakes.
Of the other players we’ve not seen too much of, I think Poku could be important for us next season if he stays injury free. |

Went to the Uruguay game as an 8 year old with my family. Nice opening ceremony in which one of the neighbours from our road in Acton took part - but the actual match was a fairly mundane 0-0 draw.
Remember seeing the Argentina game, with the Rattin sending off, on another neighbour’s black and white TV.
Saw the final on my grandparents’ black and white TV at their house in Broadstairs whilst on summer holiday with them. Still remember as clear as day my shock when Germany’s last minute equaliser went in – everyone thought we had won it in normal time.
What with Rangers winning the league cup the following year it felt like a time when nothing could go wrong. |

Again, apologies if a Spackman, but UEFA released the following statement on the Balogun case.
Yesterday’s decision to suspend for a probationary period of a year the implementation of the one-match automatic suspension following the red card issued to the player Folarin Balogun crossed a red line.
Football, like any other sports, relies on rules, which are the basis for fair, honest and transparent competition. Sometimes rules are open to interpretation. In this case not. A minimum automatic suspension of one match following a red card is not a discretionary option and does not require the decision of a competent body to be enacted. It is a principle embedded in regulations, which cannot be made subject to exceptions, let alone in the middle of a tournament where several other players have been in the same situation and regularly served their suspension.
When the certainty of rules is no longer guaranteed by its guardians, the integrity of the game is at stake and the credibility of a competition is undermined. Equally, such decision creates a precedent in the ongoing tournament, where similar situations will now require an equal treatment, to the detriment of the competition.
Football is the most loved sport in the world because it is a beautiful game and is trusted because it is played everywhere with the same laws. A tournament is never a pure standalone and, if the tournament in question is the World Cup, it has the power to drive positive or negative consequences on the game as a whole.
We express our disbelief at such an unprecedented, incomprehensible and unjustifiable decision. |

That was my takeaway as well.
He gave a really good assessment of how much the negative social media comments can affect younger players when they just want to give 100% - and also how much the positive and constructive comments, as well as support at the match, can boost their confidence. |

I was there as an 8 year old, going on 9, with all my family. Standing next to a West Brom supporter and 2-0 down I was feeling very dejected - but I can still remember, as if it was yesterday, my Dad saying at half time not to worry because we can come back and win this.
Great celebrations at full-time, then all round to my Uncle’s in the evening to watch it again on Match of the Day because we didn’t have a telly.
I still have the original program, bought on the day, now complete with rusty staples. Rangers did a 50th anniversary reproduction of the League Cup Final program which was free with the match-day program on 4 March 2017. I always laugh when I look at it because they obviously made the copy from an original program and they managed to accurately reproduce the rust marks made by staples.
60th anniversary next year. |

I’d been trying to work out how Richard Kone managed to score from that position. If you look at the video angle at about 7 minutes 12seconds you can see just what a clever finish it was.
Also thought he was very unlucky not to score with his looping header in the first half. |

On the face of it, the football problem seems such a simple one to overcome.
Even at grounds like ours where space is tight some low wire mesh fencing - a short distance in front of the existing walls and about the same height - would surely go some way to preventing the most serious injuries. This would cost next to nothing.
I wasn’t even aware of air fencing until you mentioned it. A great idea, although it does seem to take up a fair bit of space – but of course it’s specifically designed for protecting riders when motorbikes crash into walls. [Post edited 26 Sep 2025 15:37]

Looks as though it will be shown on NOW TV (certainly looks as though most of the League Cup games will be accessible from the UK ). I don't know if they will be accessible from Australia but there is generally a big overlap between SKY and NOW TV games.
Unfortunately it does require buying a £14.99 day sports pass to access NOW TV - but this has worked OK for me in the past and will be trying this method later this evening.
