The Sport Republic Revolution Starts As Semmens Departs !
at 07:57:29

So we've just appointed the man who was the CFO ultimately responsible for a club that has just been charged with 155 financial irregularities?

I hope all due diligence was done on this appointment, but with SR it seems all you have to do is have Man City somewhere on your CV.

Southampton At Brighton The Verdict
at 10:51:41

To be fair to the club, if RM is their man they probably had to act quickly. His trip to the USA to discuss his contract with Swansea was common knowledge and they probably had to act before this happened. Once this trip was cancelled it was bound to leak.

As for the game itself, at least there was a bit of fight with some crunching tackles and plenty of bookings. Why haven't we seen this earlier? It's almost as if the team have been told the priority has been to not get booked. Just a shame that the usual rubbish from Mccarthy let us down. I'm sure he'll be here next season as nobody else will want him at anywhere near what we are paying him. So we've probably got a year of him letting shots go straight through him or in at the near post in the championship.

Southampton V Newcastle United The Preview

Nick, I don't share your sympathy for Selles. He's been here all season yet doesn't seem to have a clue what his best side is.

In games like Palace and Bournemouth we have been uninspiring and plodding in the first half, yet still in the game at half time. Yet, instead of making changes and trying to push on, we come out for the second half exactly the same, almost inviting them to score.

If JWP did have an argument at HT, I can't blame him. It must be like being on a plane heading for a crash only for the pilot to say there's nothing to worry about.

He was a more disastrous appointment than Jones and thankfully we only have a few more games of his extraordinarily inept management.

Southampton V Crystal Palace The Verdict
at 11:09:33

I actually thought we looked OK in the first half. A few good chances and were solid. The problem was that rather than really go for it in the second half it was more of the same.

Then when Palace upped the tempo in the second half Seles said he was surprised! He leaves his changes too late and they're nearly always reactive rather than proactive.

He doesn't have what it takes to manage at this level. But who would come in for 7 games? Six really if you write off the Arsenal game.

Strange that after one dribble where he almost fell over himself Moussa is now our saviour!

Having said that, he had a fairly solid start to the season and then disappeared. I'm not sure Tall Paul will start, which only really leaves Mara. He needs service because the rest of his game is not up to much but if you give him a chance he might deliver.

The only players seemingly capable of providing any kind of delivery are Charley, Moussa and Theo, so I would start these three behind Mara.

Defender's Absence Noted Amid Questions Over Attitude
at 11:38:36

He's almost certainly going to go in the summer. I don't know why he can't just knuckle down and give it everything until the end of the season but he doesn't seem like that kind of character.

Have to disagree about Bazunu. He has been a disaster. If you look at the stats, our defence hasn't actually let that many shots come in. Bazunu has just let most of them in.

His save percentage is the lowest in the league by quite some margin and he is probably the main reason we are bottom of the table now.

He needs to be dropped now and until the end of the season.

Watt View - Fantastic win but Jones need to focus on football
at 15:20:07

I was willing to get behind NJ after Wednesday but then I saw his interview after the game. He claimed we have played well in every game, including against Forest, but it's hard to break down a side that sits back.

I haven't seen a single Saints fan that thinks we were anything other than abysmal against Forest. Even their manager said he thought we would never score and we could have played another 4 or 5 hours and still not had a shot on target.

As a Saints fan I'd much rather have a manager who is honest, rather than one who is constantly saying how everything he does is amazing.

I don't like the guy. I think he's an arrogant little prick. But I guess I'd rather have Saints successful managed by someone as loathsome as NJ than unsuccessful and managed by someone as loathsome as NJ. So I wish him all the best.

Southampton Have A Recall Clause For Nathan Tella, But Will They Use It ?
at 15:51:40

They won't recall him unless there is a huge injury crisis. It would jeopardise any future loan deals. What would be the point of any club taking a Saints player on loan if we recall them if they play well?

Unfortunately, with Perraud out we're almost certain to play 5 at the back. Ralph doesn't seem to trust Valery at RB and there aren't many other options.

Hopefully we can go back to 4 at the back for the United game and put some pressure on their shaky defence.

Southampton Still Looking For Another Central Defender ! Targets In Sight
at 07:34:02

I would say quite a few Saints players have improved over the last few years. Salisu is better than he was in his first season. Che couldn't score at all in his first year. Could a!so say S Armstrong and Elyonoussi are better. Jan Valery looks better when he plays. I think it's nonsense that none of the players have improved. The issue more is the real lack of consistency, but that's what you get with less than top class players.

Saints Becoming Man City's Feeder Club ! Who Will Become Ours ?
at 10:23:48

I don't mind it as a policy. I presume their wages with us won't be much higher than City were paying them, so they are moving for the right reason - they want to play.

The problem comes with the likes of Thierry Small who came and underwhelmed. What do we then do with them?

The other issue is whether it is stifling the progress of our own academy players. What's the point in buying these players if we let our own academy players go to the likes of Newcastle?

The only thing I would disagree with is that it was a "good effort" from Adams. Any decent striker would have buried that. But Adams has no left foot so just tried to make contact. He works hard but he is very limited.

Ward Prowse Absence Would Be A Big Blow But Not Terminal

Surely KWP has to be a contender for player of the year? He's been injured a fair bit, but every time he is injured it just underlines how important he is to the team. Armstrong deserves to be there or thereabouts too.

Southampton At Leeds United The Verdict
at 11:16:47

In this league, as Liverpool are finding out, you can't really get away with even one or two players playing in a position that is totally alien to them and Bednarek is no full back.

Also, surely the days of waiting for the referee's whistle must be numbered. It seems a bizarre way of the referee trying to show who's boss. With VAR the "I wasn't ready" doesn't really matter because any play can be checked. I don't see why we have to wait 30 seconds for the ref to walk really slowly.

Southampton V Wolverhampton Wanderers The Verdict
at 12:16:59

Bertrand's arm wasn't out, it was tucked in but the ball struck it and forced it away from his body.

Ultimately we don't have the quality up front. Redmond has good movement but that is about it. How many times does he over hit a simple pass or play it just behind the player? And he can't finish anything.

Adams is just as bad. Probably the most one footed player I've ever seen. For his chance yesterday he had to adjust his run so he could hit it with the outside of his right foot rather than take it with his left and score.

We just aren't good enough. Other than Ings, Armstrong and JWP none of our front 6 would get into any other prem team.

Injury Crisis In Football Should Send Warning To Saints
at 11:10:55

I would like to see Fifa ban all substitutions after the 90th minute. Most managers save a sub if they are winning for after the 90th minute to waste time, but it makes for very poor entertainment.

I am not sure if 5 subs is good as it favours the big clubs. But limiting late subs would encourage managers to use their subs for purposes other than time wasting.

Late Deal For Striker On Saints Radar

Nick, it's not really the same as buying a player for 12m on a 4 year contract is it? If the player is good you either extend the contract or sell. If the player is good on a year contract we are back in Toby territory.

Saints Have £19.5 million Bid Accepted
at 09:06:16

Have read the Monaco message board and the views are mixed. The general view is that he is one dimensional. Charlie Austin is one dimensional but he gets us goals and maybe that is what we need. A good header of the ball.

Like TygerUppercut says Monaco fans have been spoilt with the likes of Falcao, Mbappe, Lemar and Rodriguez in recent years. We aren't in the market for players of that quality.

Pellegrino knows Carillo better than anyone on here and he knows him better than most of the Monaco fans and dirk_done. He clearly trusts him and thinks he will fit in with our system.
