Late Deal For Striker On Saints Radar
at 23:05:20

Nick, it's not really the same as buying a player for 12m on a 4 year contract is it? If the player is good you either extend the contract or sell. If the player is good on a year contract we are back in Toby territory.

Saints Have £19.5 million Bid Accepted
at 09:06:16

Have read the Monaco message board and the views are mixed. The general view is that he is one dimensional. Charlie Austin is one dimensional but he gets us goals and maybe that is what we need. A good header of the ball.

Like TygerUppercut says Monaco fans have been spoilt with the likes of Falcao, Mbappe, Lemar and Rodriguez in recent years. We aren't in the market for players of that quality.

Pellegrino knows Carillo better than anyone on here and he knows him better than most of the Monaco fans and dirk_done. He clearly trusts him and thinks he will fit in with our system.

Saints At Manchester City The Verdict
at 10:38:08

We seem to be the only team that never uses its subs to waste time. If we bring on a sub at 83 minutes and 87 minutes, like we did it, gives the ref an excuse to add extra time on.

However, if we hold on an extra 3 minutes and wait until the board has been held up it makes it much more difficult. I know that if it was the other way round, Pep would wait until the 91st minute and Aguero was over the other side of the pitch until he subbed him off. Then Sergio would walk very, very slowly across the pitch, diverting to shake the ref's hand on the way. .....

What on earth has Tadic done this season to deserve starting every week? Apart from the odd dive here or there he does nothing. We need to get rid in Jan and get in a genuinely creative player.

Pellegrino Needs To Get Back To Basics Against Crystal Palace !
at 09:53:30

Part of the problem is that Tadic and Redmond can't finish. We'd be lucky to get 5 goals each from them this season. Add to that a midfield that contributes hardly any goals and you have a huge amount of pressure on Gabbi or Austin. As this is the case I would like to see Austin and Gabbi played together. I just can't see where the goals are going to come from otherwise.

Saints V Arsenal The Preview
at 15:17:03

If Arsene Wenger has any sense he'll play Giroud and pump balls into the box and watch our small defenders get bullied like they did against Kompany and Costa.

Fortunately, Wenger has no sense and they'll pass it around and we'll sit back and maybe scrape a 0-0.

I honestly believe we're totally susceptible to a team with a bit of height that are ok in the air at the moment. Let's hope Giroud is on the bench.

Saints V Happoel Be'er Sheva The Verdict
at 10:05:58

Like everyone else on here I agree that we didn't attack well. Other than getting the ball to the full backs to put a cross in we don't seem to have any plan. We move the ball very slowly through midfield and so far Hojbjerg is a huge disappointment. Romeu was at fault for the goal but if Hojbjerg hadn't been sleeping and on his heels he would have got to the ball before their player. Davis doesn't seem to like the system and has been disappointing this season. All in all, very disappointing.

Saints At Crystal Palace The Verdict
at 09:02:52

We have had a couple of times recently where we have needed to win the second half to get anything and have come out after the break looking very lacklustre. Saturday was one, Prage was another. I don't know if CP is not one for rousing half time talks but maybe if we can at least change the team at half time we might get some sort of reaction.

Saints V Sparta Prague The Verdict
at 10:23:21

Totally agree, but I am not sure how much he has had his hands tied. Soares and Bertrand are only just back from injury, and I'm not sure how fit Fonte was. There's probably a reason why Davis and Austin never play twice in a week.

But disappointing that there seemed little drive or energy in the team. Unfortunate that Hojberg got injured as that took one of the subs away and meant Davis couldn't come on as at least he might have moved the ball quicker.

We were slow and ponderous and hopefully we will be better at the weekend.

Saints V Chelsea The Verdict
at 12:51:12

Agree with saintsnutcase. TeamCortese can complain that none of our players would get into a top 5 team. But how many West Brom/West Ham/Stoke/Bournemouth players would get in our team? It wasn't so long ago Man U wanted Fonte.

We are where we are and we don't have the resources that the top 6 sides have so it's very unlikely we will have better players. Leicester didn't have the best players last year and won the league.

Saints V Chelsea The Verdict

No complaints about the result. Shows we are just a little bit back when compared to the top sides on their day. Felt we missed Shane Long yesterday. We could have done with someone really making a nuisance of himself to their back 3 and Cahill in particular doesn't seem to like playing against Long.

Saints At Happoel Be'er Sheva The Preview

Think it makes sense to leave Austin behind. We will probably have to soak up a lot of pressure over there and it is probably more suited to Long trying to hit them on the break.A draw would be a good result for us tonight so I think it is a case of trying to keep things very tight rather than trying to create too many chances.

Saints To Make One Signing ! But It Isn't What The Fans Want To Hear !
at 09:22:13

Although you can say we have depth in Long, Jayrod and Austin, a more realistic view would be the following: Long is an effective striker but one who is never likely to get you much more than 10 goals a season. Jayrod has yet to prove he is the player he was before his injury and even after he came back from the major injury has had all sorts of other injuries. and Austin is injury prone and yet to prove that he has settled at Saints or played well for Saints. I think this view is a little more gloomy but realistic.

Saints Need To Make A Statement Of Intent !
at 09:31:08

Totally agree Nick. A new signing would lift the whole fan base who are a bit jaded after seeing all the best players leave year after year. I would like to see a move for Vincent Aboubakar at Porto who is out of favour and would be well-suited to the Prem.

Sadio Mane May Stay If Saints Qualify For The Champions League
at 09:49:43

We're not going to qualify for the CL anyway. I fear any talk will be quashed completely when we fail to secure 3 points against Chelsea. To stand any remote chance at all we would need to secure 6 points against Chelsea and Bournemouth and I very much doubt that will happen.

Can Saints Make The Champions League ?
at 11:24:48

Would be great, but highly unlikely. We would need to win around 10 of our last 12 games and I just cannot see that happening. We have scraped a couple of victories in our last two against Swansea and West Ham and as well as we are playing, we are hardly blowing teams away at the moment. I can see Chelsea getting something against us for starters, and if City win that could leave us 10 points away with 11 to play, which is just too much.

Alderweireld Looking Forward To St Mary's Return
at 09:32:15

Personally, I think Toby is a better player than VdV. I doubt he'll get a particularly warm reception on Saturday but with hindsight it should never have got to that stage and Saints should have pulled out all the stops in the January window to secure him.

Saints V Manchester United The Verdict
at 09:13:16

He played Yoshida because he was frightened of Soares' defensive frailties against Depay. But I would rather we were more positive at home. Yoshi isn't a right back, he is just about ok as a back up but shouldn't be first choice. Even on the first goal if he hadn't been ambling out so slowly the offside would have been more clear cut.

Manchester United To Launch Bid For Sadio Mane
at 16:06:16

Just get tired of teams coming after our players. Montero at Swansea has been much better than Sadio so far this season and for much of last season as well. Yet for some reason it always seems to be our players that are targeted. Problem is, when a club like Man U comes in for a player it is very hard to keep them.
