On the performances Preston keeper earned his crust. Lumly situation is weird. Thought he was a youngster that Martin didn't want to test under pressure without prep. But he is 29! McCarthy wont be with us next season. With Alex not really being tested the decision to not play Lumly seems to be a poor one.
We moved the ball out of defense so much more decisively than with Stephens. Midfield was so much more engaged. |

8 games to sort the defense out, at the moment any team in the top 6 will fancy their chances against us in the play offs.

Great game to watch , really exiting 6 goals and some great football Left St Marys buzzing.
Was always going to be difficult to dominate teams without a decent physically dominating striker. Playing a pressing game in the oppositions half if virtually impossible at home, teams will shut up shop and hope to nick a goal.
My only criticism is that there was acres of space and we seem obsessed with working it down the wings. When Sulemana came on his pace and control was frightening. I have no idea why he was back defending at corners when a simple ball over the top to him would have resulted in great chances.
Apart from that I am still confident we will go up , even if its through the playoffs. |

Jack Stephens is an issue for me 3rd choice CB and our club captain. He is just not the same standard as the other two.
I'm all for changes, but would prefer that they where made when we are 2 up. That said Stuart Armstrong is a valuable commodity that should be used wisely so rotating him to allow for higher energy spells makes sense and David Brooks needs game time and him and Fraser on either wing should enable us to dominate from the beginning. |

Its fashionable to moan about VAR for offsides but you are spot on here. If it was in place we would have another cup in the cabinet. The moans about VAR come from ex-players of top teams because they are less likely to benefit from biased refereeing. Although this is beginning to be addressed as there is now enough opportunity for refs and video assistant refs to punish "smaller clubs" and benefit bigger ones.
Look at the uproar around Harr McGuire being offside and blocking a player in comparison to the occasion West Ham had 5 players offside challenging for the ball against us last season. |

Holgate wasn’t good enough for a poor Everton team, he was an awful signing regardless of his part in the goal.
Alcaraz is probably the best player at the club. Newcastle are rumoured to be in for him in Jan.
Sulemana has everything needed to dominate in this League.

The reason we have been and will continue to ship goals is the tactics employed by the club. We are effectively playing without fullbacks and we don't press in the midfield.
This means that we don't stop the first ball coming in and players waltze through the middle and have acres of time to take pot shots.
The shots to goals ratio is about the time and space tha opposition get to to take shots |

Really not having a go , but I don't see Bazunu as being the problem here . Sometimes its very difficult to see what's wrong when so much is wrong , but he makes some great saves and I genuinely think it could be even worse with any of the other keepers at our disposal.
I think its fine to play with possession and ambition at the back but what's not OK is two centre back that look great with the ball at their feet but cant defend a cross.
Holgate was an actual nightmare. Jan has never been the aggressive ball winning defender we need and the CM that we started with had all the resistance of a wet bag.
There is room in the team for Edoze, but he simply cant tackle , same with Mara , there is a time and place for him but its not with 7/8 other fearful limp excuses for footballers.
And about KWP, yes he had too much of the ball , yes he tried to hard to make things happen but that was because he clearly cares and could see everyone else being totally CARP |

the market for strikers is pretty poor, I've not seen any wonder business for them from any team £200m for a 31 year old Salah! 20 yrs ago players at the end of their career would drop down a division, now there is USA, China and now Saudi to make players unnaturally wealthy .
I don't think SR bought badly, they player we bought have been sold at a profit (and all this during a cost of living crisis , they must be pretty shrewd eh?) |
