It would be interesting to see how the West Ham fans take to that.

I don't tend to think of West Ham as a 'big' club but they are bigger than any of the clubs Parker has managed.

If he does get the job they won't like his style and they will let him know it!

I think that's a good shout. Although he will bore them to tears.

Scott Parker played for West Ham. He has got to be in with a chance.

Not that their fans will like his brand of football.

If Kieran Maguire's sums are right they are in deep trouble.

In 2024/25 they were paying £400k a week just in interest repayments.

Arsenal seem to think that warm-up routines might be contributing to injuries:

https://www.espn.co.uk/footbal

I can't think of a specific reason for it but there does seem to have been an increase in the number of players pulling out of games because of injuries picked up in warm-up routines.

But having said that, Madsen and Mbengue were both on the bench for the Derby game and both came away from that with lengthy and mysterious injuries. Particularly mysterious in Madsen's case when he didn't even get on the pitch.

It suggests to me that either the club is not assessing injuries correctly or we're naming players in the squad when we know they are carrying injuries and probably shouldn't be playing.

One non-speaking scene in Tinker, Tailor and another non-speaking scene opposite Alec Guinness at the end of Smiley's People.

Nice of him to give George his lighter back

That'll learn them

EFL rules say a club can be deducted 3 points for every instance of fielding an ineligible player:

45.2 Any Club playing an unregistered or ineligible Player in a League Match may have three points deducted from its score and/or be liable to such other penalty as a Disciplinary Commission may decide.

So why have Wrexham got off so lightly?

Burnley's owners haven't submitted accounts for 2024. That can't be good!

Mary Whitehouse would have had the Beeb closed down if they had ever broadcast Frank Bough's recreational activities.

A Line and a Lash.

Definitely one for after the watershed. About two decades after the watershed.

One more goal would have put him out front as our leading scorer for the season. So he's entitled to be annoyed.

For now he has to share top spot with Kone and Smyth.

IFR funding levy

The levy will raise £20.3m.

And they got £45m from the government for setup costs.

It's how it's done in this country.

But yeah, that is a very good question.

Those clubs putting in north of £1m each are bound to want some return on that investment.

I don't think Hull is a useful example here.

They gambled by massively overspending and got away with it.

Over the summer they had to offload £6m worth of players to avoid a points deduction.

It didn't hurt them because they were promoted, had Premier League money to spend, and those were mostly players they would have wanted off the books anyway. Although Liam Miller is wasted at Birmingham!

If Hull hadn't got promoted they would have come into this season on the back of a fire sale with a weak squad and would probably be looking at a bottom eight finish.

IFR funding levy
at 13:31 23 Oct 2026

The Independent Football Regulator wants to impose a levy on football clubs to pay for it.

It will be a sliding scale with the wealthier clubs chipping in over £1m each.

QPR and most of the other Championship clubs would pay £44k each.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo

"The annual cost to English clubs of the Independent Football Regulator (IFR) has risen to £20.3m, around double the amount initially estimated.

The watchdog has proposed a levy to fund operating costs of £18.3m to support 100 staff, with a further £1m to cover potential litigation.

Another £1m is towards a total estimated set-up cost of £45m, to be paid off over the next 10 years.

From next season, all regulated clubs in the top five divisions of English men's football will be required to pay for the IFR's operations.

The IFR claims it will be "a proportionate and affordable amount", however it is significantly higher than the figure forecast in a 2019 impact assessment report, before legislation was finalised.

That estimated annual operating costs between £8-10.2m, for the first 10 years.

Definitely spooky.

The Neville brothers at our club would certainly scare the bejesus out of me.

On the subject of Valencia........

Carlos Corberan is still out of work.

The Mancs could certainly do worse than him. Not that their fans would have someone who wasn't a 'name'

"Maybe Neville's turn next time."

Which one?

Or do you want to reunite the Valencia dream team?

Mancs would be better off with the Marx Brothers
