Absolutely I do!! It’s all part of the fun and makes up the atmosphere - the more the merrier. It’s good for our players and can put off the oppo too. Part of why I love being in R Block.

It’s a shame the Gulf Air kit for the Championship winning side was blighted with the Briatore monstrosity of a club badge. If it wasn’t for that, it’d be right up there with the classics. I thought all three kits that season were great, were it not for that badge. |

I know what you mean, and with the Brentford match too. For me yesterday’s match was slightly different compared to the Derby one. We were away, and I felt that Derby were deservedly 2:0 up that day. I felt that we offered very little and were pretty poor. When Warnock put Leon Clarke on for Adel, I thought even he’d thrown in the towel. Even when Agyemang got a goal back in the 92 minute, I just had that down as a consolation goal, I still didn’t think we’d get anything, let alone deserve it. Mackie’s equaliser was awesome and it felt like a real smash and grab. We got a point where I felt we didn’t necessarily deserve it. Whereas yesterday, we deserved a point at the very least, and had we played another couple of minutes, could have won it. Mad scenes at both tho!! |

Could not have been more of a contrast between to two halves. Understandably after going a goal down in the first 20 seconds, get a man sent off after 15 mins and then going another goal down within half an hour the vibe was dead. Not even the PNE fans were that lively. Apart from Scarlett (who I thought had a decent debut) and Adamson, the players seemed at a loss and adrift, and this reflected in the crowd. At least we made it to halftime without letting in a third as I’m sure some would have left. It’s understandable, but i thought it also took a little of the gloss off what would have been a more hearty welcome for the players and families of the 67 League and Cup winners, and for Charlie Austin’s charitable efforts.
Second half though, different story. Loftus Road was absolutely bouncing. Whatever Julien said at halftime, well the players delivered the appropriate response. And the crowd responded too.
There’s such a fine relationship in the dynamic between what goes on the pitch and how the support responds and the ultimate result. Yes, the players set the tempo, after all their raison d’etre is to entertain. However, it can’t be denied that the support can exert a massive influence on the mindset of the team.
Yesterday was such a great example of the team and supporters in synch. Players busting a gut and persisting despite being down to 10 (not that you could tell), hitting the crossbar and the keeper pulling off some great saves, and the supporters encouraging them every step of the way. It does affect them, and the opposition too.
I don’t know, I’m just still buzzing from yesterday. As an amazing an atmosphere as I’ve experienced in my many years, and we didn’t even win (although another 5 mins and we would have!).
Also, I hold my hand up. Right at the end, when Madsen was about to take his free kick, I said to my mate next to me, “If this goes in, I’m taking my T-shirt off!”. Iversen must have heard me and must have thought he’d be doing a public service to prevent that from happening, so he only went and pulled out a blinding save. Apologies. |

I think it was a fair and honest assessment of the game. He didn’t dodge his responsibility and part in it, and acknowledged what he might have done differently - no one was accounting for letting in a goal in the first 20s. But it’s about how you react to the inevitable setbacks. I really liked what he had to say, and at no point did I think he was hiding. I think we have a really good un here. The players seem to back him. When he first came, I wasn’t sure what to make of him. A full season in now and whilst we’re not there yet, I like what he is doing, and how he is going about it.

To be fair to Mbengue, I was pleasantly surprised as to how long it took for him to get to his first ban. I thought he’d get banned a lot sooner than he did. If I remember correctly, I don’t think he got banned until early January. (I stand to be corrected tho!). |

Absolutely this, along with Dave B’s point below it. I’m clearly in the minority here, but I think the song is alright. It’s no masterpiece, but as mentioned, football songs are really hard to write and inevitably by nature come across as contrived.
Two points:
1) As Dorse said, this should have been teased out. Play bits of it here and there, maybe underscore a video, sow seeds that make people think “hello, what’s this?”. Let the interest develop organically and without a heavy hand and see how it takes.
2) A lot of the more established club songs like Marching on Together for Leeds (written in 1972), and the Sky Blues song for Coventry (words written by Jimmy Hill and his Mrs, no less, based on a already existing tune) I think are pretty cringey too, but they are inextricably their clubs’s songs. Over the years they’ve become really established, maybe fans from years gone by were more forgiving, less critical and happy to actually have their own club song.
We don’t really have our own song and Captain Jack is more call/response and lyrically should remain on the terraces!! If we are to have one, it’s got to start somewhere.
I think we’ve missed a trick here, and the club have really mismanaged this. Constructive criticism is all well and good, but needs to be measured even if you don’t like it. These lads are our own after all. |

Agree with all your other thoughts tho, especially the own goal. Nothing will ever come close to Jamie Pollock’s moment of genius, because that really took thought (!), but today’s had serious comedic value! |

Dark chocolate Bounty, yes please!! There was a time, in the mid 90s I think, when along with the milk chocolate ice cream Bounty, they also did a dark chocolate ice cream Bounty. Now that was heavenly!! Milk chocolate one was nowhere near as good. A real shame they stopped doing them.
With regard to the pre-American take over phase, I always loved a Cadbury’s Twirl. A rich chocolate hit. Unfortunately nowadays it just tastes like a really powdery, oily, sweet concoction of disappointment. |

It was lovely and long overdue to see Paul Parker again. What a top quality player he was. So quick, effective in the tackle, great in the air despite his diminutive stature and an excellent passer of the ball. No wonder Ferguson wanted him at Man U.
Came across as really down to earth and humble, despite the success he went on to have at that place, and his warm words about Macca were really poignant and heartfelt.
A thoroughly decent bloke and if that was his reception into the Forever Rs, it’s long overdue, especially considering his relatively recent charity fund raising bike rides. Glad it was done tho.

Great report as per usual Clive.
We were as brilliant as Leicester were poor. They were absolutely awful. To show the level of disinterest, lack of effort and disrespect of their own fans was shameful. To be shown up by a 16 year old, considering the “value” of his teammates was diabolical. Never was a team so undeserving of a consolation goal, and they couldn’t even get the penalty right first time.
Leicester are probably one of the few sides with whom I have no particular axe to grind. I’ve been happy enough for them (as much as you can really for another team) and I wish we had their relatively recent success. But they were by far the worst team I’ve seen at Loftus Road this season.
The image of Jordan Ayew standing, shoulders slouched and with his hands open, looking like he’d just dropped his school dinner tray, not realising what had just happened when Mbengue had just scored his thunderb@$!@rd goal summed Leicester up for me. Didn’t know what hit them, and couldn’t be @£sed to do anything about it. |
