Saints V Manchester City The Verdict
at 12:12:05

Considering the team had no confidence, ambition or passion when he took over I think 8 points in 8 games under the pressure of a relegation fight is a great return.

Frustrating not to take anything away from the game but really pleased to see some effort, fight and ambition. To be honest, if we can do that most weeks I'll be happy whatever league we play in, and whatever the results we get!

Brendan Rodgers To Saints ! Rumours In Scotland
at 20:13:10

As someone currently in Scotland I've not heard anything or the sort. Not saying it won't happen but, let's be honest, why would he leave Celtic for Saints right now?!

Saints V Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict
at 11:36:53

Great performance considering our position. I am not Pellegrino's biggest fan but if he can keep the team playing with that kind of energy, ambition and tenacity then he will be well on the way to winning me over.

There are still definitely areas to improve on, and we've been teased by these occasional performances in the past, but in the interests of getting behind the team I say well done to all involved - but more of the same needed!

Saints Set To Miss Out On Number 1 Transfer Target !
at 16:35:20

I think we did go in for him judging by Pellegrino's comments about Walcott last week. I'm not sure financially whether it would have made sense but I would've loved him back here. Despite what Arsenal fans say about him I don't think there's any doubt he'd have boosted our chances of survival.

p.s. @Wembley76 aren't knee-jerks for knee's?

Bologna In For Gabbiadini
at 12:07:46

In my eyes the current management team has totally failed Gabbiadini. We should be building our team around him, not trying to shoehorn him in to a system that clearly isn't working... I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to go - what must it be like sitting on the bench for the misfiring Saints!

Same story with Lemina and Boufal - no point buying talented players if you can't/won't let them try to work their magic. I wonder if Le Tiss was in this squad where he'd be playing. Reserves, no doubt.

We have the resources to do better, we just need to get the best out of them!

Day 11 Still No Incoming
at 14:54:54

I've read that because of the way the installments are, and after the Celtic sell on fee we only receive £17.5m this window from the VVD sale. That doesn't buy much these days, especially after signing on fee, and especially as I think we could really do with a couple of additions.

Makes me wonder if selling VVD hasn't put us at a big disadvantage in the short-term. Long-term £75m is great business but if we can't spend it trying to save up it could be a very expensive mistake not to get more of the fee upfront, even if it meant a smaller overall fee...

Where Is The Central Defensive Signing ?
at 16:10:54

I'd like to add (in agreement with montecristo) that I would also like to see young academy players given a chance rather than reaching for the chequebook but we seem to have ditched the idea of giving our young players a chance, unfortunately...

Where Is The Central Defensive Signing ?
at 16:08:34

I would be surprised to see a new central defender come in. We already have Yoshida, Gardos, Bednarek, Hoedt and Stephens on our books. Irrespective of whether they are good enough we probably need to sell one before we buy another.

I personally think that there are several areas that need more work - a creative central midfielder (seeing as MP refuses to play Lemina there), a pacey addition on the flanks to add competition for Redmond, and a target man to finally replace Pelle would be my choices. However you dress it up in the past two years we haven't scored enough goals and our confidence has been poor - a team that doesn't score goals will always have more problems than a team that doesn't defend well.

Saints At Fulham The Verdict
at 10:24:31

Hard to get excited about a 1-0 win against lower league opposition but you can only beat what's in front of you, I guess...

I've had a change of heart this week that even though I don't see anything promising in Pellegrino so far if we are to consistently improve without billion pound investment I think we need managerial stability, and consistency on the playing and staff side. So after much deliberation I am going to worry less about a perceived lack of strategy and ambition behind the scenes and follow Lawrie Mac's suggestion that the manager be given more time.

Yes I'd prefer it was a manager with some visible philosophy, yes I'd prefer if the board were more clear and honest, and yes it may well get us relegated, but the board seem to have made up their mind, and getting worked up about it isn't going to do my health any good!

Krueger Reveals Gao's Investment Plans For The Club
at 17:59:33

Easy there WA_Saint! I just read this article as "I'd like it to be better but this is what we've got and it could be worse" so I don't think it warrants that sort of personal response but everyone is entitled to their opinion, I suppose.

For me the saddest part of all this is the infighting our "strategy" has caused. I can't help but feel that with a bit more communication and honesty this could've been prevented without creating two opposing camps of "Meggie's" and "happy clappers".

Great performance from all involved. Say what you like about Pellegrino (and I'm far from convinced) but he keeps hanging on in there.

I'd like to see that same 11 start the next game and see what they can do in a match we should be winning. Let's reward their good performance rather than punish them with a subs bench place.

Saints At Chelsea The Verdict
at 14:30:48

Not much to say that isn't covered. A loss against Chelsea isn't that bad, MP should be judged on performances against clubs from 8th downwards. I am still annoyed that he's not delivered on the mission of exciting, attacking football that Reed announced with his appointment, though.

Incidentally I know fans of a few other "middling" clubs who are also complaining that it seems to be more about "not losing" than winning. I'm not sure how they're going to get kids interested if it stays this way. My vote is for a European Super League so that the big 6 can bugger off and search for more money. I'd much rather play Huddersfield, Leyton Orient, Pompey every week with both teams going for it than this snoozefest...

Saints V Leicester City The Verdict
at 12:40:10

Highlight of the week is your excellent headline! Less said about the result the better. Well done Puel, that's the way to answer your critics. Pellegrino on the other hand, well I'm now even less convinced he is the right man for the job. Six months in to a job and no sign of improvement or even change. I'm not sure he's the right man for the job but should we give him to make an impact? If so, how long?!

Saints V Arsenal The Verdict
at 15:03:15

Very happy with the performance but the next step for Saints is not the odd good performance/win against the big teams (which we've historically done quite well), it's to be able to consistently beat teams around and below us to cement our position as "best of the rest".

I'm waiting for Pellegrino to prove he has the nouse to pull this off.

Saints At Bournemouth The Verdict
at 09:53:46

Still not convinced by MP but based on recent results you have to say he deserves longer to see if he can keep this momentum and improvement. Ultimately a win against a poor Everton team, a loss against City, and a draw away at Bournemouth is the bare minimum we should be looking for ordinarily, so still some way to go but what a relief to see some improvement! Top marks to Austin - a while in the wilderness and then coming back and proving himself once again. Let's hope the improvement continues!

Saints At Liverpool The Verdict
at 18:39:50

It's a shame because I don't like to see managers sacked but I agree with you. As harsh as it is I haven't seen enough to suggest Pellegrino can cut it as a Premier League manager (and that's coming from someone who though Puel should be given another season).

It will be interesting to see how this develops and whether the current board are prepared to eat humble pie and accept that they've now made appointed as many bad choices as good ones which suggests their master strategy is not all it seemed a couple of seasons ago

One further (tongue in cheek) comment - is it a coincidence that your public opinion has changed so dramatically because you can't now blame Yoshida for all of our problems?!?!
