Did we really pay that much for Saito. If so, surely Nourry's tenure as DoF has to be called into question and terminated. Millwall paid circa £1m for Femi Azeez, who is everything that you would want in a wide player and improving year on year, which is in stark contrast to Saito. They both started their championship journeys at the same time. This can't be true. |

Exactly this. I can recall when we played Barnsley at home and within about 30 minutes were trailing 0-2, Warbs took decisive action immediately by replacing at least two players and moved Kakay from the left-back position. That's what leadership should look like. [Post edited 1 Mar 9:56]

Mercifully, we are just about there, but I wouldn't be too dismissive of Pompey. About two weeks ago, they played a stronger Sheffield United team than the one yesterday with 5 or 6 changes, and they played well. Unlike us, they were unlucky to lose very late in that game: 1-0. They also have a long list of injured players but are still able to be competitive in nearly every game since the new year whilst operating on a smaller budget than ours. "Positive": Sam Field's performances for Norwich may mean that we receive a bigger fee than first anticipated, because we ain't going to be getting anything remotely close to the purported figures that were being mentioned for not so super J Varane. Sideways Sam's preceived inability to get involved and contribute in advanced areas of the pitch to any telling effect, has been dispelled yet again. Well done Field. assiduous as ever in your defensive duties too. In a Norwich side that is heavily possession-based and very good at it too, he doesn't look out of place because he's a damn good player at this level. I can't wait for Varane to replicate that level of performance later on today. [Post edited 28 Feb 14:37]

If they fail to make the play-offs, then the blame lies full square at the door of Sheffield United's board who decided to sack Wilder after finishing a clear third on 90 points but losing out in the lottery of a play-off final. If he were there at the start of the season, they'd now be comfortably placed in a play-off spot. Definitely worried for tomorrow as a QPR fan. |

We have an extra day's recovery/preparation after having only travelled to Southampton, which is hardly an arduous journey. [Post edited 25 Feb 22:16]

Surely, Sheffield United will be hugely disadvantaged as they are playing a tough game tonight with only two days' recovery plus probably travelling down on Friday, before facing us on Saturday. No! [Post edited 25 Feb 20:53]

So did Varane. He's been exonerated. |

Juat looked at the number of goals scored by the highest-scoring forwards in the championship to date. Vipotnik aside, whose 16 goals have all been without penalties, Kone compares favourably with the likes of H Wright, A Armstrong and McBurnie in the absence of penalties scored. All of whom would be on 10 goals. Kone now has 7 goals in the league and this is his first season at this level, which is in contrast to the wealth of championship experience of the three mentioned above. A forward who is blessed with the knack of positioning himself in the right areas and is very rarely on his heels like Dykes was. Naturally, he like Burrell, will miss some scoring opportunities. His ceiling for further growth is high, and he will get a lot better. To think Burrell, injury aside, could be close to mapping the achievements of Vipotnik too, tells me that we have two good forwards on our hands and this bodes well for next season. Me neither. Very well done. Very good second-half performance. We've completed our first double of the season. [Post edited 21 Feb 14:36]

Me too. Sadly, there's nothing on the bench from an offensive perspective and I fear that is what will swing it in Hull's favour. |

Virtually nothing is inconceivable in this league. Today's game v Hull is one in which we have to show greater attacking intent. Of the teams we will face in the next five games, they have the most frailties which we can exploit if JS sees it fit to permit his team to show more daring away from home, in spite of their position in the league. If not, that points differential between us and the likes of Pompey & WBA could tighten over the next five games. |

Agree totally with you. Also, the number of former rugby league players and coaches who have transferred to the union side is further proof of how many aspects and ideas of league have been co-opted into union. Lee Radford is currently at Northampton Saints and if you watch them play, the lines they run, their intelligent set plays, forwards with excellent handling skills always expecting the ball, speed of play and their aim is to keep the ball in play for long periods, are all rugby league fundamentals. I much prefer league but I'm not averse to watching Northampton Saints who are a breath of fresh air in the union code. [Post edited 20 Feb 11:16]

Look at the quality of the young talented players in the Hull City highlights picture. We may have not got as much as we could have done by way of transfer fees for Manning (270 championship & 24 PL games) and BoS (126 championship, similar number in Turkey, 21 Europa league & 5 Champions League game. The poor treatment by the club playing a contributory role, but that quality of young talent isn't matched by Nourry's current intakes; Morgan excepted to a point. In fact, it could be argued that the one's that might grow into championship capable players from the current crop, pre-date Nourry: Walsh, Murphy-Cooper, Kolli and perhaps Sutton. . No, instead we sign them at the age of over 21. Kealey Adamson being a case in point for a just in case signing who is nowhere near Championship calibre. |
