Where are the Coal Mines

I watched every minute of the game too and I have to say your definition of ‘effort’ is very different than mine. Today was a million miles from the Birmingham game never mind Leicester. Remember how they were busting a gut closing down every Brum player, winning possession high up the pitch and generally causing them all sorts of problems in the final third. Every time we attacked Birmingham I thought we might score, only Cook made me feel that way first half. Then it got worse instead of better! Where was the effort to prevent Norwich scoring in the first minute. What was RND doing, why did Jimmy lose his man?
You talk about tiredness and lack of energy, like they all played twice in the one day. Like Norwich haven’t played for a month. Half this team was ‘rested’ against WBA. They are professional footballers and can’t run around and pass coherently against a team in the bottom three, just the same as they didn’t run around and pass the ball coherently at WBA a few days earlier. This is not a dig at you FB, but this ‘effort’ was well below an acceptable standard for the third game in a row and about the eight time this season in total.

Yes I said as much on page one of the thread. You can’t just switch on and off performances like a tap. You try to win EVERY game. You won’t of course, but you TRY. Trying takes EFFORT. No effort evident since the final whistle v Leicester.

Back in the day you could just blame the groundsman. You could even coming running onto the field with pitchforks - but only to stick little holes in the ground mind

This is true. But it also applied to the last two games regardless of personnel

Chaotic team selection, chaotic outcome as R's slip at West Brom - Report
at 10:41 1 Jan 2026

Agree with all this, except I lost my rag after the Portsmouth match. Didn’t even bother to watch the WBA match as everything about it smelt of ‘can’t be arsed’, from the team selection down. The bare minimum expected after forcing fans to travel and watch that double dross is six points, but we’ll see.

Surely we cannot produce three inept performances in a row. Equally we can’t expect to turn it on when we feel like it, like a tap or we will come unstuck. Hoping Chair is fit to return today, badly missed the last two. We know that ‘on our day’ we are a match for pretty much anybody in this league - trouble is we never know when we are going to be ‘on it’ or not until the game gets going. Thinking a 3-1 result if we are, another turgid draw if we are not.

Isn’t field left-footed? But If Madsen is unfit, I would like to see Morgan play in his position. He has a lot of energy and passes the ball forward. Did okay there for a spell last season. But JS doesn’t seem to view him as a Midfielder at all

Did Bowler or Parrot get anywhere near the Everton or Spurs first teams?

Two home games against the bottom two - Six points ???

Well if we don’t then tossing away last night’s game becomes as pointless as Blackpool (McClaren was it?) in the League cup.

Subbing a Goalkeeper - Why is it only done for Injuries ??
at 19:57 30 Dec 2025

This, obviously. It’s a specialist position unlike anywhere else on the pitch. If a goalkeeper makes a howler it is almost certainly a goal, anywhere else on the pitch the situation is retrievable, or may be a missed ‘sitter’ .
Also, you don’t hear of outfield players being comfortable playing in goal any more like Niall Quinn to name one. used to be. So you change the goalkeeper for tactical reasons , sub goalie gets hurt, you are in trouble.

January transfer rumours

Very hard to see how he would get a game in our current set up. Same with Eze if we resigned with his own money. We are absolutely stacked with quality players in those positions
