Other than the fact that he is not a Championship standard defender. For the life of me I don’t know why he was not loaned out/sold during the summer. |

Don’t think he was being singled out on last night’s performance, Nix. My understanding from the OP was looking for a general overview of how his season has gone so far.
For me - like most I suspect - it’s too hard to judge as he has had a real stop start season thus far, as have many of our players tbf. Having read the Sunderland fan’s view when we signed him I thought we had got an absolute steal but must admit to being quite underwhelmed so far. Didn’t see the first half last night where we apparently played much better than the second (could hardly have played worse) when he seems to have done well. Second half I felt, as others have said, he tucked in too much and left the RW with a lot of space, but that may have been per instructions .
Just based on the way he beasted Bowen,my preference would be (a fully fit) Kemper at LB. But that is not to say Cirkin should not be in the team. Adamson looks like a man that could do with a breather (which he likely won’t get in the International Break from a travel perspective anyway) so maybe Cirkin/Kemper cold play RB? Additionally, we are a much better team with Ronnie in CDM and if JCS has decided to do his annual disappearing act (anyone know what actually happened to him?) then maybe Cirkin could operate as a LCB. Overall, I’m glad we have him, but don’t think we have seen anything like the best of him yet. |

It was and I know there is some mitigation in that. But if Lloyd did that we would say ‘typical’. I just think that even allowing for just being on the pitch and long lay offs etc etc, Chair should have enough experience to lean forward and keep the shot low. |

I think that is a great description of it; a 0-0 with two dodgy goalkeeping moments. One thing that hasn’t happened this year (yet anyway and we have played some good teams) is going on a run of defeats. I know you couldn’t describe last night as ‘bouncing back’ from Southampton, but at least we prevented a second consecutive defeat. We haven’t lost two games in a row, never mind more than that, this season which is encouraging. |

Agreed, really poor effort from Chair and I’m a huge fan of his. Lovely cut back from Kolli and a player of his experience should be a lot more composed in front of goal than that. Whether he scores or not, he should at least hit the target. As for Obikwu, far too early (and we are not overwhelmed with fit/in form strikers) to write him off. Let’s give the lad a chance, if he gets motoring it will be like a new signing. |

And yet he had his best ever game for us as a striker playing off Kone v Swansea. I only saw the second half and we were dire for most of it. Passes going astray, huge hole down the centre,,,long balls to no-one, letting Burnley knock the ball around at will in front of us - very poor. |

As long as we are losing every second game by a three goal margin we should be safe enough. It’s a brilliant disguise by JS, to follow up a tactical masterpiece with similar ineptitude. Means we are in an around the play-offs without drawing too much attention to ourselves |

This looks about right, although I think Cirkin will replace Kemper and don’t expect JCS to start. Also you haven’t said who will limp off so we finish with 10 men. Whoever is out there, this is a game we should be winning. |

I agree with this 100%, it’s a psychological thing to ‘only’ lose by two, but also could be important from a GD perspective too When the play-off places went to 6th place, the last spot often gets decided by GD, so I expect it to be very tight with 8th place up for grabs. That’s why the late, late goal conceded v Derby irked me too.

This is true, Southampton much tougher to play against than Swansea. But just in terms of his goals, he could still be in line to score 15+ this season which would surely garner us a few points along the way.] |

I thought Kemper not at his best yesterday - not fully fit? Considering how he had Bowen in his pocket, he was not nearly as effective yesterday and got turned very easily for the first goal. Fact that Southampton could attack with purpose down both flanks caused us problems too. |

Two stand-out ones for me today. Kone really IS back, quality strike today, echoes of some of his goals last season. A confident striker’s goal.
Chair back on the pitch, albeit for ten odd minutes including added time. With Vale chronically out of form, we need a fully fit Chair out there. Should be good for at least 30 mins V Burnley. |

Are they better than West Ham/Middlesborough? I know we did better against these two, but that doesn’t necessarily make them inferior to Southampton. |

In our last four games, we have won and lost every second one by a minimum of three goals. I wonder when did we last experience such a sequence of dichotomic results and did it stretch for longer than four matches? Bit of a ‘rollercoaster of emotions’ to say the least. |

True, there were three Swansea guys trying to dispossess him and he showed great strength to hold them all off. Then the weight of his pass to Smyth was inch perfect. In fact I think Poku had his best game in a QPR shirt last Saturday, long may it continue |
