This is absolutely the best news we have had in a long long time. Really hope this works out and hats off to everyone who contributed to this.

It sounds way deeper than that. I’m not sure how a vote of no confidence does anything to help this situation.

Also throw in that it cost me as much to ship the shirt as it did for the shirt. I’m sure im not alone but international shipping doesn’t make buying merchandise a worthwhile proposition. Out of the clubs control to some extent but how is 35 pound delivery acceptable.

3 points from relegation and 3 weeks to non existence. The lowest point ever in dale history

Something very wrong here with players on the bench and I suspect it’s more than just a normal team pick. Absolutely no reason why jimmy would be on the bench all these weeks without injury. It’s very very broken .

Big Jim registers as a player.
at 15:35 5 Jan 2024

As a player who went on to manage,(at a lower league) this is a huge nooooo. Jim you are a legend already but you will be hurt. Trying to play half way through a season when you’re older and have not trained fully is a mistake. I get the sentiment but please have faith in the youth. There is local young talent around and you must nurture it if you want to succeed

National League TV

Yeah after doing homework it’s totally not worth it for a season pass. Bein sports here is $129 and you get all prem, most championship and some league one and two. Optus sport for $129 has all prem and then a host of other stuff from cricket to champs league. This non league tv works out about $350 and midweek games are pointless as it’s about 3am on weekdays. These prices once again not competitive.

I am willing to sign up for a season again this year but it’s proving difficult and a risk at this stage. With the amount of exiles dale have this is another gap that is not properly explored. I would much rather pay towards something that goes towards the club than a sneaky stick that bypasses it wink wink.

Both heartfelt and measured responses here from everyone. A very split argument for and against which has put the dale faithful in a real predicament. Rational questions about running costs, current financial position and ‘what’s in it for the BoD” are totally reasonable. The next stage of this journey is without doubt troublesome and a calm, methodical decision has to be made.

Dale fans are an intelligent bunch. Taking the emotional element aside and focusing on the business side, any company in the world would be out of their mind to make a decision without all the facts being laid on the table. It’s been done to death already in this thread, what many of us are thinking on both sides of the argument. What comes next will probably be another history defining decision.

One thing I am certain of is that you would have to be insanely smart to pull the wool over the fans who saved the club from the MH takeover (you known who you are). I will be waiting for a consensus view once the facts have been laid bare.

Jim’ll Fix It

Hmmm this interview is worrying. As positive as Jim has tried to spin this, the undertones are once again extremely worrying.

Jim, as mentioned in previous posts, comes across as a “heart on sleeve” type of guy and is very methodical in his answers. He has a feeling of understanding his dressing room, his players and a willingness to do the best by his team, very Ted Lasso (sorry just watched the series). He seems to get the ethics and morals of the game and an understanding of the current tier in which we will be playing. Questions pertaining to formation and tactics were answered as expected by a new manager who has their own theorys and suggestions of how their game will be played. This will be judged moving forward like any manager is as the season progresses.

The playing budget, I don’t think is a shock to anyone in all honesty. Parachute payments, revenue, comparative budgets for the league, we have never been able to compete so not really a shock that we are not in the top 5 budgets for the league.

External companies doing strategic analysis data collection and suggesting players who fit a footballing mould, hmmm I would argue that it’s been coming for years. AI simulations will have taken over half the world in the next few years. Paying for it is debatable when a lot of this information is now just “online”.

Players being offered contracts and not having the decency to reply was disheartening. I get it there may be a no loyalty within the world of football, but surely the decent thing to do is let a club know you’re not going to take the offer. Got the impression that it was left a bit sour.

The worrying components:

The reference on numerous occasions to not being ready to start the season. Jim didn’t use this specifically as an excuse, but how is this even possible going into a non league season. Jim was honest but his honesty has laid bare how in the mire we are. Having to use youth team players to fill gaps when they are not ready is very worrying going into a season. A poor start to this season and I fear that even the thickest skin dale fans will lose support.

Jim’s undertones indicated so many issues behind the scenes. He acknowledged that people were working hard, but his pauses suggested he was choosing words wisely. The suggestions of looking for investors has become a bit of a pipe dream (let’s be realistic).

I echo that Jim will need every bit of support this season, but the lack of information coming from the upper echelons of the club would suggest it may be worse than many of us fear.

Rochdale's Relegation: Mark Hodkinson Q&A
at 11:31 28 Apr 2023

Really well written Q and A. The Rochdale family really need a significant lift right now. Something to inspire the weary. After the biggest fight off from takeover in the clubs history to losing league status, we need something to look forward to and some positivity. So many people care about the club and surely there has to be some light at the end of this tunnel. Don’t stop believing in the sign Mark.

Yeah great OP. I think the difference here is that most people have been part of this forum since its inception. We know each other despite the alius’s and some of us have grown up together or shared many an away trip. I don’t post these days as not being able to get to games has limited my ability to have a balanced opinion of issues and games, but I read the forum daily. Following on from the thread about the Stockport game, I agree whole heartedly with the poster that dale has the best fans in the country.
