Exactly. You have answered W7's point more eloquently than I could. Like you I don't care about possession for its own sake. It's the fact that we don't seem capable of winning these type of home games for the reason you explain. So its about points, not possession. |

Something certainly has to give tonight. We are likely to have more than half the possession, so can we break this terrible 18 month record? It’s an important game as due to Derby’s terrible injury problems and league position we will rarely get a better chance. Must admit I’m nervous. |

Putting Ronnie in midfield has been a great ruse away from home as makes us incredibly hard to break down but surely at home to a team near the bottom we need to take control of midfield, progress the ball better and hopefully create more chances. |

Fair enough mate and thank you for clarifying. And not at all, me thinks (for what it is worth) you are a good poster…. Sounds like we are not a million miles apart in that case. Agree subs shouldn’t be entirely pre-determined unless someone coming back from injury; you are right there needs to be a bit of responding to circumstances in the match. I suppose all I would say is that we don’t know for sure that these are not Stephan’s calls. Or he might be happy to take the medical advice. He also has access to the in-play data so he might be being told that player x is running less or slower or whatever. Hopefully those in the dugout are working as unified team just like the players on the pitch. |

Yeah hear what you are saying. We certainly saw in the Warbs era that “looking after the football” (ie passing it slightly nervously back and forth across the back line) didn’t achieve all that much. The issue tho is different one: how do we break down teams who simply don’t want the ball and sit back? |
 | Forum Reply | Unbeaten away, struggling at home at 15:28 13 Oct 2026
again it’s not shitting any bed; it’s just pointing out that for more than a season now we have had an issue with teams near the foot of the table who sit deep and let us come on to them. I already said in the OP i’m excited about how the season could go and how there is so much to like about this team, but also concerned that this (along with injuries) could see us falling short of the clear potential and abilities this time has at its best. If you don’t see any issue here then fine mate |

Adamson has come on leaps and bounds defensively. Just wonder if Mbengue gets the nod at home as sometimes good driving forwards (albeit even he doesn’t always seem to know what will follow….) |

I just don’t agree mate. If we just played players without rotating I think our injuries would be even worse. JCS has never played more than 30 odd games a season and he is 28. The reason why we still have him fit is prob in part because we are resting him in 3 game weeks. Poku is v injury prone, needs kid gloves. Smyth runs v explosively and was getting knocked about a lot mid week. With the benefit of hiindsight we could argue about Kember sure but he stays on, aggregates the groin strain he picked up in the first half and we are without a recognised left back tmrw- then fans wd complain about that too. Without access to the in play data the backroom staff and coaches have I just don’t see how fans can be quite so definite about how the club should be handling substitutions and rotations differently. |

Don’t think fans are wetting too many nappies but fail to beat Derby then on top of Bolton and Preston a pattern starts to emerge. Not beating a team when we have over half the possession for 18 months or whatever it is has to be at least a mild concern, surely? At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, with 3 points for a win, an unheralded 3 scruffy points against Derby at home so much more important than a high profile point at WHU |

He is just SO much better than anyone we are likely to get the danger is that this season is the high water mark for us. God knows how many goals to the good we will be thanks to him (at both ends) by the end of the season if he carries on in this form. I'm not just talking goalkeepers, any signing in any position, really hard to see one making such an impact for us as Charles is already doing, he transforms the entire way we can play. Assuming we don't have him next season, that's going to be a massive void to fill. |

Performance team enjoying too much clout? Think its very hard to reach that conclusion from the outside. Beale ruined Willock's career. Stephan seemed to be calling the shots last year on selection and it was no surprise to me when Burrell did his hamstring because he was clearly being massively over-played (albeit Stephan had very few other options). The danger of fans assessing things like this is we always react to the last game. Fans are disappointed because the performance-led substitutions cost us againsr the Hammers. But overplay certain players and that's them out for 3/4 months. Loosing key players for that length of time (Chair for instance) is costing us a lot more points than two points (arguably) lost against West Ham. |

No worries. And for the record, if you do think the club is badly run, that is your prerogative. I just assumed you thought the club WAS badly run by the seemingly clear implication of your rugby league comparison, and I was interested if you thought that given you spend a lot of time thinking about QPR. What I am trying to tease out is that given most of us agree we do have an injury issue, what is the specific cause? We can’t just say “it’s all the fault of Nourry” or “let’s blame Bicycle Ben” (even if I didn’t warm to him much in that fans forum a year or two ago). It shouldn’t be about name calling or innuendo; I would hope the club is looking objectively about this behind the scenes (and not just producing dodgy stats to suggest the situation is somehow fine). Is it about recruitment? Is it simply bad luck? Are there particular tweaks we could do to our fitness regime to improve availability? At the moment it seems to be a) the injury situation is terrible, but b) nobody has produced a smoking gun to explain why. |

So you think we are still badly run? |

Let’s assess at the end of the season (it is v early days) but IF the likes of Morgan can’t get at least, say, 20 games in a team in the division below us that perhaps starts to tell you what you need to know, sadly. And it might then be a case of trying to sell some of these players for fairly modest amounts to L1 and L2 clubs. |

The record is horrific, no question. But last season the one clearly “unique” thing we did (as far as I’m aware) was apparently to give players a “soft” pre-season in the hope they would gain peak fitness a bit later, and supposedly be stronger to see out the business end of the season. So much for theories, it was widely ridiculed, clearly unsuccessful and APPARENTLY abandoned. Fans seemed pretty agreed the first few games of this season that our players seemed much fitter than the start of last season - and stats showed they were running more than other teams and looking stronger towards the end of games. So if it IS something we are doing to the players when we get them, what is it? Because it’s nothing obvious to me. I actually wonder if it’s more the type of players we buy. Big guys like Jimmy and Ronnie look extremely resilient. As to maybe a slightly lesser extent do either tall players like Madders or fairly muscular ones like Mbengue. A lot of the injured players are these small, nippy winger and full back types. Maybe they have to be smaller for speed? But perhaps in the Champ you are better off with six foot four brick out houses (so Kember types rather than Lampetys). Obvs it’s not always as simple as that (Kember has also been injured for example) but en masse the Dembele, Saito, Poku type signing hasn’t really worked for us simply because they are not available enough. My hunch (and that’s all it can be) is that this might have more of an impact than anything the physios are doing, but who knows…? |

Can’t really argue with that. But is it the players we sign or what we do to them once we are here? |
