Sheffield United Reflection
at 18:52 28 Feb 2026

Centre mid devoid of any leadership or brains. Morgan has good energy but I think he's not the smartest bloke in the squad. Varane doesn't have the guts for championship football. He's not brave enough and almost always passes backwards (you can see why with his awful assist for their second goal.) Vale is okay but needs more technicians on the pitch to play alongside.
With Chair instead of Saito, Burrell instead of Bennie and Madsen instead of Morgan or Varane we could have expected something from todays game.
Can't see us winning again until several of these injured players return.

Our ‘goal’ today….why was it disallowed?
at 18:46 28 Feb 2026

Just seen some highlights. I wonder if lino judged that Smyth had pushed the keeper. Looks like he might have. Regardless still incredibly soft and no need for it to be disallowed.

He's got to do something different next week. Two in centre mid without Madsen as one of them just won't work, whatever combination we pick.

They were both appalling. Don't care how young Esquardina is, he's not good enough and I doubt he ever will be. Two left backs needed in the summer.

I'm not one to give JS much stick but the starting team was all wrong and he has to take some responsibility for that. Esquardina and Saito should never have been partnered together. Varane is simply nowhere near as good as either he or someone at the club thinks he is and Bennie is way way off championship level. Once we had Kolli, Mbengue and Hayden on we looked an awful lot better.

Let's be honest, a midfield four of Saito, Varane, Morgan and Vale is as bad as we've had in years. The decision to let Field go out on loan is looking worse by the day.

No return date for Chair, Burrell still a way off and god knows what the deal is with the bloke we signed from Coventry. It's a total shambles.

Defenders giving Varane death stares. They know he's not good enough.

20 minutes in and they're all breathing heavily. They look knackered

With the players we have available we very much are league One at best

Brazilian Defender is an oxymoron.

With Madsen. Also large part of why we won on Saturday is because Hull kept on passing us the ball.

We've got injured players who would make us a decent team if they were fit. JS really has nothing to work with at the moment

I'm not sure it's about standards in terms of work rate. I think it's more that we're carrying too many players who are not Championship standard. Of the 11 on the pitch at the end how many will still be playing at this level it higher in 2 or 3 years time. Walsh, Esquardina, Adamson, Bennie, most likely Morgan I highly doubt.
The jury's out on Saito, Kone and Kolli.
The only ones you'd say yes to are Dunne, Edwards and Mbengue (he has the physique just needs a bit more coaching.)
We can't expect to win many games carrying so much dead wood. I'm sure they're all desperate to prove they're good enough but I don't think they will.

Not looked the same player we signed last year. Who did he partner when he played last year. Wasn't it him and Morrison in quite a few games. I don't mind Morrison although he's another one who's injury record isn't great.

The lack of any real quality coming through from the DS is a real problem. Trouble is we have no catchment area. All the best players are taken by Chelsea, Fulham, Palace, Spurs and Arsenal. A club like Southampton have a much larger catchment area.
All we can do is pick up players like Vale, Morgan and JCS who have been released by prem clubs because they're either not physically strong enough or too injury prone. I don't see this changing. Buying players from Australia is not the answer. Pokus and Burrells and Kones are the way forward. We've just go to find a way to keep them fit though.

All the big athletic boys end up in the premier league academies. We get the waifs and strays left. We simply can't compete.

There's a few players out there who have no business playing Championship football. Saito definitely one of those. All of the development squad boys look horribly out of their depth. I had hoped Morgan might step up but he looks pretty clueless. Please let's not sign any more Australians. They're rubbish.

Appalling on so many levels. Walsh having a decent game then does that and nobody bothering marking the player stood in the six yard box. Awful

First ten minutes aside, we've been the better team. Real opportunity for Morgan to show what he can do while Madsen is out. No way we can play Varane and Hayden together.

Player signing event

It was a good event. Well managed by John Lewis and club staff. Kids happy, especially to have met Mbengue. I asked Ronnie if he'd be back at CB on Saturday. He said he hoped so as he hasn't got the legs for right back.
