Cricket 2026 County/International Thread

After the superb win yesterday, this went down the list but another superb win today by England although there was some pretty wayward bowling with Curran and Overton going at 15's.

But if Brook continues this batting form, and Butler and Banton did well today, then well within a shout of the T20 World Cup

Yes seems that WLS suggests the same, so means one more yellow and he could be suspended again right??

Picking up on that Streatham, I said in a another post, Kone is criticised for being slow, but he was on the end of the cross and it was a fast break, and as you say sublime one touch football

We know Mbengue wont be back Friday because he is suspended for at least 2 matches (possibly 3 not sure if last week was a straight red)

I think he has two parts to his game

Finishing: Which was evident at Wycombe Wanderers and glimpses with us

Battling/Creating: Which is is evident more so here with us, hence his low goal tally.

If he learns (and remember he is only 23) to combine the 2, we would have a cracking striker but he is learning still. I watched him a lot yesterday, and he is indeed slow, but he always seems to get to where he needs to be - As seen with his goal yesterday because that was a fast break and he was still in pole position to score.

So, agreed, the return from what we expected is low, but still think longer term we will be a force with him him and a fit again Burrell. I do think that when you sign a striker who has scored a hatful of goals the season before, one would rightly expect that to translate to the following season. Just think this is a transitional season. Remember LB, glass half full not half empty

My humble opinion is from the early signs I have seen, Bennie is better than Kolli - An excellent prospect without the baggage

In advance of the downvoters: It is only 'my opinion' not a fact

On point 1)

Kone said in the post match interview that the cross was 'perfect' for him, his words, not mine

Without your catastrophic match thread in August, we may never have turned our season around... You'll always have that badge of creating the worst ever match thread

I concur... Knighthood for Spaceman_P

In fact, I am sure at one point I heard the fans at the ground chanting

Spaceman's Blue and White Army

But I am hard of hearing according to Mrs Superhoops

Cricket 2026 County/International Thread

https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/

I've started a new thread for the 2026 season, and I've started it now because the T20 World Cup starts a week today. (And in fact 2 months and we will be chatting county cricket red ball)

In a group with Italy, Nepal and Scotland and a pretty solid squad I expect that we will progress beyond the group stage. After that who knows and will depend on fitness. Curran and Salt played very well in the first game warm up game v Sri Lanka but tougher tests are ahead. Anyway, here is the squad for England (albeit still provisional).

Harry Brook (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Josh Tongue, Luke Wood.

Be relying on Archer to stay fit (as per usual) - But hope that Brook finally stands up as captain, and Banton and Jacks perfom like we know they can at county level. If all that clicks should be a good watch.

I am gonna focus on the positives - Yes, there are a few.

Coventry have been wobbling of late

Their top scorer is on a baron spell of 6 games without a goal

This team, when wronged (7-1 away fixture) come out swinging (See also Marti/Leicester)

And finally, I opened up an old newspaper today (kept for lining cat trays) and we had beat West Brom 3-1 and Coventry were beaten by Ipswich 3-0 on the day of the paper.

So, all those positives mean a 3-1 to us
