I was a big fan of Ralph but he'd run out of road. Alson Villa and Wolves changed manager at about the same time as Saints did but they got their next appointments right, whereas we could hardly have gotten ours more wrong. I'm worried that the fact that we promoted Selles indicates that SR had no money left to appoint anyone with experience. They are still paying Ralph and Jones and are going to lose huge sums on the "prospects" they've lashed out on over the past 12 months. I wish we'd snapped up Eddie Howe when he was out of a job, but hindsight is a wonderful thing eh?
Jones' team selections were baffling - five at the back against Forest who hadn't scored away from home sine August. Mara and Djenepo scored against Man City, then what? Caleta-Car starts three matches, we win them all, then Bednarek gets picked ahead of him. That as much as anything else will have persuaded the Board to own up to their folly. Bree looks a decent player but he's no KWP.
If you think Nick is preaching, well nobody is forcing you to visit this site! Nick does a very good job in leading discussions and aiming for balance. I don't think he'd claim to be a better supporter than anyone else. He sets himself up to be disagreed with , but most importantly he's kept this forum going for many years, of which a lot have been far harder for Saints fans to bear than the one we're currently in.

Good piece Nick, It's a shame he's gone, he conjured some cracking goals out of nothing, away at Burnley and at Crystal Palace for example. An was very unlucky not to score in the EFL Cup Final. Played with a smile on his face, I loved his enthusiasm. And he won an England cap as a Saint before Pellegrino ruined him. Thanks for everything Nathan Redmond and good luck in Turkiye/
Would we just let it go it Caleta-Car said he was joining a smaller club, just to appease the Marseille fans? Bednarek was good for Saints and Saints were good for him. Now both have moved on - time to draw a line.
Good report Nick, agree with all you say. Ward-Prowse is looking like a different player. Last season he looked as though he was carrying the world on his shoulders, now he clearly has a lot more confidence in his team mates and gets forward more and looks the the penetrating pass rather than the safe one. Great to see.
Gutted about Lavia's injury. Hope Romeu is kept now, he'll be needed.
Very sad news, he was far too young. Imperious player. Remember him scoring many wonderful goals, including a fantastic 20-yard volley at home to Liverpool in 1986. Condolences to his family.

Congratulation Nick! Hope we can celebrate with 3 points today. My half-century isn't that far off now. It's quite a ride supporting Saints but I think over the last 50 years we've had it better than a whole lot of clubs.
Have a look on You Tube at some of his matches for Saints and England to see (or remind yourself) how good he was. Example: England v CZ, D Revie's first match in charge, Channon made of a mess of a header in the first but got it right in the second to put England ahead, then laid on two assists for Colin Bell.
Was his departure really a surprise? He'd refused a new contract. Perhaps his choice of club was unexpected, but I don't think I was the only poster on here who felt that it was a good deal for Saints. Contrast with Daniel Levy blocking a move for Harry Kane in the summer. Hasn't that worked out well.
Spurs without Kane will be no better than mid-table. At any club challenging for the title, Ings would spend a long time on the bench. Given his injury record he'd be used sparingly. He wants to play as much as possible and at Villa he will. I'm not bothered which club he signs for - Villa's £25m is as good as anyone else's, especially for an injury-prone 30-year-old with one year left on his contract. Hopefully this time we'll get the recruitment right and bring in someone even better. WMO.
